I love Macros
« on: March 02, 2012, 12:57:52 pm »

I just figured out how to use macros today. I can't believe I was missing this feature for so long.

For anyone who doesn't know, you can automate repeatable actions. Press ctrl-r(start recording) do something like designate a room for digging. move the cursor to the spot where you want the 2nd room to go, then press ctrl-r again to stop recording. Then press ctrl-p to playback what you just did.

I make one set of rooms, then press Ctrl-p 9 times to duplicate it.

Here is a video.

Actually, Baughn recently added some new features to macros:

  • If you want a macro to play 10 times, try Ctrl-u 10 Ctrl-p.
  • You can also repeat a single command, so Ctrl-u 50 > will take the display down 50 z-levels.

I didn't know how they worked until now either. I tried designating a huge area to be dug out... it's... beautiful..  No more time wasted designating all that space by hand.. :D
