Welcome back to the track racing fans, as we get ready to serve up some sweet speedway action! The fine folks from Lakitu Towing are now lowering the drivers onto Rainbow Road with all due pomp and circumstance!
First up is Crank, winner of Luigi Circuit, the first race of the season! In that contest, the gloomba jumped out to an early lead, and through strategic driving and a bit of luck he never fell lower than third place. He's put in an appearance at each race since, gauging the caliber of his competitors while monitoring the changing landscape of the MKL, but will it be enough to give him an edge today? Nookington's Department Store certainly hopes so! He'll be driving the same Kart that served him so well at Luigi Circuit- the High Acceleration will give him a quick boost out of the start and might prove invaluable in future tussles, but his notoriously Sticky Wheel may cause him heartache on the track!
Next to him is Zelda, Princess of Hyrule and winner of Cerulean Speedway. She overcame a somewhat shaky start through impeccable skill and intelligent Item usage to pull away from the pack and coast to an easy victory. Zelda figures to have a tougher time here on Rainbow Road, however. Perhaps the most conservative competitor on the course, Zelda has reportedly eschewed several Sponsorship offers and will rely on her Compensator to keep her out of trouble!
Luigi is beside the Princess, and punched his ticket here with a second place showing at Luigi Circuit. The tenacious plumber will be driving for Silph Co tonight, which has proven to be one of the most generous Sponsors in the league- we'll see whether their confidence in the green plumber pays off! Luigi can thank Silph Co for his new and improved Poltergust 4000, with it's advanced Nitrous system that figures to have a big impact on the curves here today! He'll hope to be out in front, however, as his less than Aerodynamic Kart configuration will make it more difficult to draft.
Captain Falcon is the dashing fellow in blue entering the track as we speak. At Yoshi Falls, Captain Falcon made a heroic surge up the leaderboard in the final moments to secure his spot here, and the Rez Media Corporation certainly hopes that he has that kind of magic in him tonight! The cautious captain's Kart, the Blue Falcon, is equipped with a Compensator Module to help protect him from the trials of the track. That caution paid off at Yoshi Falls when it helped correct for a suddenly sticky wheel, but I bet Captain Falcon hopes he will not need it again!
You said it, Jim! Now approaching the starting line is Dry Bones, with his Dry Bomber bearing the signature R of Team Rocket! Dry Bones turned in a good performance at Cerulean Speedway- after a half dozen laps where nothing went right, DB calmed himself down and prepared himself for a late surge when many racers would panic and overreact. Now, he's one of the most popular racers on the Prix! The other racers will have to watch their backs, as the Dry Bomber is improved with Ramming Speed, although it is something of a Banana Magnet.
Finally, entering the course as an alternate is King Har- wait, what's this?
THE GREEN THUNDER STRIKES LIKE LIGHTNING!!!
Woah! The Mysterious Mr. L just flew onto the course from nowhere, effortlessly ramming King Harkinian back into the gallery! That's sure to leave a mark- but what an entrance! It's certainly characteristic of MML, though.
That's right, Bob! The Mysterious Mr. L secured his place here with a last-minute charge up the ranks at Yoshi Falls, holding on despite pressure from nearly every racer behind him, including Captain Falcon. He'll be representing Nightmare Enterprises tonight; I'm now being informed by the inspection official that MML is driving a new Kart tonight! His Kart has the Great Handling Module, which reduces the Hazard check penalty on Driving Aggressively by one! However, it comes at a cost, as the engine cannot put out as much horsepower as his competitors. As a result, the Kart is Slow, unable to maintain high Momentum on the track.
It will be interesting to see whether that holds him back, Jim! With that, the racers are set, and the Star Cup is ready to begin... right after this word from our Sponsors!

Vaati appears riding a breeze.
"Bwahahaha!  Now I shall have my rev- wait, where am I?  Don't tell me this isn't my next race?  Curses!  Foiled again!"
He looks around sheepishly as someone yells "Down in front!" at him.
"Same to you, damned ovine lover!"
He steps on the head of the nearest goomba and sits in his seat, cackling.  The wind mage picks up a bucket of popcorn.
"What is this, some sort of mass-produced projectile weapon?  Covered in grease?  Take THIS, you thrice-accursed foul-mouthed illegitimate royal brat!"
Vaati tosses a single piece of popcorn at Zelda's head.

Captain Falcon threw a winning smile as he waved to the cheering crowd, then stylistically jumped into his cart, the newly fixed vehicle now sporting a new paint job as well with the iconic yellow symbol on it's front. All that hard work had now lead him hear to the final race, and the only outcome will be him holding the trophy above his head in the winner circle.

"Looks like a perfect day for racing" the captain said with pride showing in full force "I'll be waiting for the rest of you at the finish line"

DB yawned as he began to rub his eye sockets, only awakening at last as he felt his tank hit the ground. The long ride up here had been so peaceful that he wished he snagged a pillow to accompany him. Shame the officials wouldn't allow it since he didn't have the right paperwork in order. Doing one big stretch as he felt his bones begin to pop into place, he accidentaly hits his foot on the gas pedal. ROCKET START for the rocket man!

Crank grinned as he pulled to the starting line.  All eyes were on this race.  He had done well to secure recognition at the Luigi Circuit, but that wasn't the key to stardom.  No, that was merely his ticket to the big leagues.  A loss here would drop him down to "also-ran" status, which simply wouldn't do.  No, if he wanted to impress the folks back home, he had to rack up another win here.  There was simply no other choice.

No other choice.

"Let's do this, folks!  Let's race!"

Fox arrives, walking in as dignified fashion as possible and looking rather out-of-place in a rented tie. Yes, tie.
He didn't quite stretch to a whole suit; He'd been longing for a drink and had fled whilst being measured for one, but he did however take some care with his appearance, grooming himself fairly neatly and wearing clean clothes, along with some deoderant.
Belying his 'reformed' appearance, however, was a hip-flask sitting in the empty holster buckled to his belt.

For now, though, he doesn't touch it, doing his best to just ignore all the potential enemy agents in the crowd as he makes his way to a seat, settling down to watch proceedings. Not without an occasional glance over his shoulder, of course.
'Well, here I am. Doubtful they'll want me to race, but at least they can't say I didn't come.' He lounged back and put his feet up on the seat in front of him, watching the track with hooded eyes. 'I know how they're always talking about me behind my back.'

Rainbow Road- Turn One

Start Your Engines!

Rocket start!

"Let's do this, folks!  Let's race!"

[6] Crank times his Rocket Start perfectly, blasting forward with FOUR Momentum! If Crank has his way, this race won't even be close!

Quote from: Phantom of the Library
...establishing connection...

The Mysterious Mr. L plays it safe, scooting forward with ONE Momentum!

ROCKET START!

[5] Princess Zelda expertly times her Rocket Start, releasing the charge and surging forward with TWO Momentum!

Hit the rocket start! Successfully, this time.

"This is it. My own circuit was just a test drive, now for the real race. Activating nitro boost..."

[6] Brilliant blue flames burst from the exhaust of the Poltergust 4000, and Luigi jumps forward with THREE Momentum!

Rolling Rocket Start!

"Looks like a perfect day for racing." Captain Falcon proclaims, pride showing in full force. "I'll be waiting for the rest of you at the finish line!"

[1] Captain Falcon aggressively holds down on his accelerator, building the charge- too much! His engine burns out as the green flag drops, black smoke billowing from beneath the hood of the Blue Falcon! He gains no Momentum as he rolls out of the starting gate!

ROCKET START for the rocket man!

[4] Dry Bones ably executes his Rocket Start, gaining TWO Momentum as the Dry Bomber roars onto the course!

Tie-breaking

Crank has taken First Place out of the starting gate with four Momentum!

Luigi is not far behind his Race 1 better with three Momentum!

Zelda and Dry Bones are vying for position in a quick rematch of Cerulean Speedway! [1]vs[4] This time, it is Dry Bones who forces Zelda to brake lest she be forced off the course- Dry Bones secures Third Place as Zelda loses ONE Momentum!

The Mysterious Mr. L holds onto Fifth place with one Momentum, only a breath behind Princess Zelda!

Captain Falcon is at the back of the pack, but is certainly still in the mix!

THE RACE IS ON!

Finally getting his bearings as he felt his tank take off, he couldn't help but snicker as he almost shoved Zelda off the road. "Don't worry princess!" Db yelled back at her. "When I'm done with this race, I'll make sure you're where your mouth is. IN THE GUTTER!!" Db laughed to himself as he returned his sights on Luigi, watching him closely as he kept his foot on the gas. DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY. "Hey spaghetti breath! Move aside and maybe I'll spare you, we both know how you got here was a fluke. You had the home course advantage and you still came in 2nd!" Letting loose another laugh as he taunted his fellow racer hoping to demoralize him.

Crank laughed with glee.  Now this was more like it!  Keep this up and he'd be ahead of the pack in no time flat!  Now to take this stretch right...
