Grizzly bear. F'yeah.
And two normal dogs that you adopted for some reason. I forget if I had them up for adoption or not. So you have two dogs and a grizzly bear. I gave it to  you mostly because of how enthusiastic you were when we bought it and you're an axeman in our military anyway, so I figured why not.

I saw those dogs and wondered if I adopted them or not. I guess I did, which is awesome. I love dogs. Bears and dogs. Kamin is doing quite well for himself, and I heartily approve. Better train those dogs to be wardogs, though. They'll be much more useful as fuzzy and refined balls of death.

I tried to but unfortunately because you already own them I can't have our trainers train them to be war dogs.

I realized after posting. Well, hopefully they make up for lack of training with tenacity, loyalty, and a fair share of luck  :P Who knows, maybe I'll end up adopting some wardogs over the course of time?

Well technically I have to assign you the animals, but it can be played off as you adopting them. You can be the crazy axe warrior or something XD

As a side note I'm kind of disappointed that not as many people have shown interest in the thread. But I figure so long as I have a few people interested then I've at least managed to achieve something.

Bay12 has an amazing Lurker Community, so don't worry too much--you're really doing a great job. Also to note is that when there are a lot of other comm-forts and succession games going on at the same time, people tend to watch what they're involved in. As far as quality is concerned, I think this one is way better handled than the spammy noob succession fort started by BFEL. I almost tried it out, as I've never done a succession fort before, but am kind of glad I didn't. I like the guys doing it enough, don't get me wrong, but the whole thread just seems like a wall of triple posts and one line responses. Just trust me on this, you're doing really well, and I love your updates!

Yah, I'm the "Pony guy." So, is he using a spear, or what?

Please tell me he has all his teeth, after all, I must look pristine to the goblins before I stab them.

Also, if you've got wooden furniture in the dining hall, you have some big issues anyways.
This is Dwarf Fortress, not the Fluffy Wambler Express.

Oh yes not to worry, he still has all of his body parts, we haven't had any real confrontations, just sneaky goblins and kobolds trying to poke at our defenses. I really need to get our warsmith to start smelting iron armor, even if it's not gonna be masterwork all the time. Who knows when these beasts will attempt to besiege us.

I'll gladly take a dwarf...
Nickname:  NESgamer190
Gender:  M
Profession preference:  I'll gladly help on the forges!
Idea:  Offices for every dwarf!  A chair, table, armor rack, and weapon rack is optimal.  If not, perhaps have a statue garden for the public.

I have started having statues made yes. Soon as I run the game I'll put you on a dwarf.

Explorer's Journal - 22nd of Opal, 252

From all of the recent attempts of infiltration from kobolds and goblins not all of us have gotten out unscathed. In light of Edem Rigothlular's death from a rather bold goblin thief, I have tasked our miners with digging out a mausoleum for all future unfortunate deaths. None of us like to think about death, especially in our current climate, but at the very least we can have a decent burial chamber.

Explorer's Journal - 14th of Obsidian, 252

I've recently tasked our diggers with carving out a jail hall to hold any criminal elements within our community. I have heard word from the mountain homes of Vampires infiltrating other outposts and slowly wiping out their populations. With any luck they won't have any desire to come to our frozen swamp home, but precautions should none the less be taken.

In other news it would appear we are being accosted by polar bears. I was not aware we had been stationed that far south of the mountainhomes. It has already killed one of our wardogs in its wake. Kate quickly took to felling the beast, but not without sustaining some injuries of her own.

At this time we had not actually taken the time to carve out a hospital. I quickly stop all other digging designations and prioritize our miners on working on carving out the hospital wing, setting our engineers to work on making traction benches and requisitioning other medical supplies. This couldn't have come at a worse time of year. None of the rivers are thawed and we have no water sources to provide water for commander Kate. Kate is a strong woman though, and is thankfully recovering in spite of the cold climate hindering her treatment.

Explorer's Journal - 5th of Granite, 253

Our digging operations for the mausoleum, hospital and jail have finished, and we are beginning to outfit the wings with their proper tools and furnishings. The Mausoleum has been designated for engraving so hopefully in the coming months it'll be a tomb fit for a dwarf on his way to peaceful rest.

Our Broker seems to have been taken over by a creative force beyond our understanding. Our military is quickly deemed to keep an eye on him while we provide what is needed for his supernatural project.

Explorer's Journal - 20th of Granite, 253

In spite of her encounter with the feral polar bear, Kate is back on her feet and training her squadron in combat. She walks the halls with a quiet dignity, the crutch in her arms taking her where she needs to go just as well as any fully functional leg.

I always find it interesting seeing pictures of other peoples fort, as the style of the architecture seems so alien.
My architecture tends to be a bit more ornate then most others, I've noticed.

From what I can tell, your architecture involves large grids.

Unfortunately, I do not currently possess any living forts, so I cannot post pictures to compare the styles.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Yeah I just find it easy to shift+arrow keys an 11x11 room for my stockpiles and crafting rooms.

Just saw this, I'll be following it. You can dorf me if you like (as Person012345), I have no particular labour preference. Perhaps I could be one of the children.

Explorer's Journal - 22nd of Granite, 253

It would seem the child struck down by the gutsy goblin kidnapper has risen, his ghostly wails echoing through the halls. I immediately tasked our engravers with memorializing the poor thing. Hopefully he will be reborn in a better environment. Armok rest his soul.

Explorer's Journal - 26th of Granite, 253

It seems our broker Tun has finally finished his super natural creation, a rather ornate amulet of chestnut and jasper. When I asked for what his inspiration was he asked me what I was talking about, then gaily strode off to drink his weight in booze.

Explorer's Journal - 20th of Slate, 253

I have tasked our smiths to begin forging armor and weaponry for our military. Cold isn't the only thing threatening our fortress. I have little doubt those thieves and kidnappers were scouts feeling out our fortress for their brethren. We cannot protect this fortress with mere wooden training weapons. We need axes, hammers and swords. NESGamer190 took to proving himself by taking to the forges, hammering out the weaponry with gusto.

More migrants have also arrived. It's beginning to get crowded in the confines of our fortress. We need more bedrooms for the new arrivals. Amongst them are a large cadre of Marksdwarves. I've immediately drafted them to become archers for our military.

My appologies for the lack of updates guys, I wasn't feeling well earlier in the week. Anyway I'll post another chunk shortly.
