Consider this: Gregor and Derick have a duel with same quality weapons (Iron, for example) and in neutral conditions (no terrain, supports and so on). On whom you would bet?

Derick the Swordmaster of Doom
Gregor the Tanky Stab-Sentinel

Alexander is getting an incredible amount of character development right now.

so i see you are doing dark character analysis are you
Also, Alexander is an exception to said easygoingness for a reason.
The man he was most loyal to in the world, who he idolized, the knight who squired him- died in Berebia because Alexander was too slow to protect his flank.
Alexander, obviously, survived this.
This left him with two things: An incredible hatred of Berebians, and a singleminded devotion to not failing this duty again.
To Alexander, failing one's duty is tantamount to giving up one's worth in life.
Betrayal is giving up one's right to live.

And this is why once Alexander realizes the depth of what he has done in leaving Kesselring, he will grow more and more mentally unstable.

Heh, never said Sal was always a nice guy, he was basically the poster child for corrupt soldiers for most of his time as a soldier. Most of the stuff he ranted about with wyverns he bought into when he was a soldier.

Now though, he's basically a nice guy trying to make up for a dark past, pretty much.

Well, shit.

We have a new possible Adrien on our hands.

Isn't that pretty much every character in the group?

...Not that kind of mentally unstable.
Jesus, I'm not going to touch being Adrien with a fourty-thousand foot pole.
I meant the self-hating dark kind of mental instability.

Valor isn't making up for a dark past. He's just morally grey, and puts his honor before anything else.

Besides, I don't think you guys really want to meet the real asshole Adrien..."

@GB: Chris isn't. :P He has a dark past, yeah, but he's not trying to make up for it/doesn't feel guilty about it and would, in fact, go right back to it if he had to with no real qualms.

Wouldn't doubt if it was a good number, although not sure how many have themselves being said darkness. I've been alluding to his past for a while, comments here and there and his bio, figured I'd just up and say it since that was really the only way I could answer why he's typically a nice guy, nothing else really made a satisfying answer really.

Also, Powder, expect Sal to try to nudge you off that road once he realizes. Can't promise he'd be successful though. :p

Tantallos also does not have a "dark past". He is just crazy and happy to kill people, but doesn't regret any of those things as indirectly he is making a favor to some people by killing bandits.

Alexander is kind of that.
Except for the fact that the "dark past" he's trying to make up for is only somewhat his fault, and most definitely not an evil act on his part.
Also he may not be the "nice guy" mentioned in that sentence.

Unless rough training and a not-totally-stable family count as a dark past, Gregor's pretty clean on that front.

It'll be hilarious if Alex goes off the deep end and only the Berebians notice :P

Olison's got the dark past, but isn't trying to make up for it, having accepted it as part of who he is. Also glad that I'm making Alec into a less-serious character with no dark past or the like. Trying to keep Olison consistent is tough enough :-\
