Welcome to the Gristle-Swamp of LimpingYour party of seven, Dell (Lycaeon), Byakugan, Paula (P(ony)SI), Lightning Runner (Iceblaster) and the two nameless earth pony farmers led by the leader Bee Dengray arrive to the Gristle-Swamp of Limping, a sunken military base situated in an equally sunken village at the foot of the
Smokey Mountain range.
The area has turned into a swamp, and virtually of the houses and military buildings have sunken under a layer of mud, discolored greenish water, trees and swamp moss.
It doesn't look as if the area was hit by any WMD's at the time of the war, but evidently, something isn't quite right as there doesn't appear as if there have been any ponies living or roaming about the area for goodness knows how long.
You stop your wagon and party close to a river in which you spot several groups of carp and radigators swimming about, so you decide not to get to close and instead focus on getting your party secured safely below ground.
The two nameless farmers and Paula are deemed to be the most important ponies of your party and are thus temporarily assigned to operate the mining drills and dig out your new homes, while the more "expendable" ponies, Bee, Byakugan and Lightning Runner clear the immediate area of trees and dig up some salvage from the sunken buildings around you.
Work goes quickly and the miners soon have the first few tunnels and storage rooms dug out by the time the scavengers/woodcutters have the area cleared.
The three scavengers find some noteworthy and interesting things among the sunken ruins, but the group had other priorities at the time, so rummaging through the salvage they found was delayed til later.
For now, all food and general supplies were moved down below while the miners continued digging rooms.
The first farming area is dug out, it is small but should suit the farmers and seed storage's present capacity, expansions will come later as needed.
In addition to this a butchering area, refuse stockpile and skull, bone and shell storage is dug out.
The two bighorners your party brought with you are butchered right away to compensate for the embarrassingly low amount of food you brought with you.
None of you get the idea of setting up a tannery, so the skins go to waste in the refuse stockpile and rot away.
The miners dig out two medium-large areas which are then used as scavenge and wood stockpiles respectively, all chopped wood and collected salvage is moved down below, there is a fair bit of each.
It was by now that the wagon was disassembled and the last of your supplies were taken down below, the only indication of you even being in the area is a small cleared area, some trampled moss and a nearly unnoticeable hole in the ground.
While bringing the last of the wood inside you spot the creeping miasma of a pink cloud, suddenly it seems clear to you as of why there were no ponies in the area.
A flock of Bloodwings, large bloodsucking bats, flew into the cloud and all died to violent hemorrhaging.
You consider collecting their corpses, but the swamp isn't safe, so you leave them as they lay, just waiting to be absorbed and picked clean by the swamp fungi.
The two nameless farmers set up their first farms and begin growing Synth-Reeds, they plan on doing this all year round until they have an excess of Synth-Reeds.
A living/crafting area is designated and started on down in the stone layer just below the farming/storage area.
The three miners (who by then started getting a good idea of how the drills worked) planned out enough rooms and facilities to sustain a small population of perhaps 20-40 ponies.
It includes, a medium size mess hall, 10 rooms, 2 offices (one for Paula and one for Dell), a large crafting/workshop area and a medium dormitory.
It doesn't take too long for the three miners to finish digging out the first few bits of the area, most of the crafting area was dug out and ready for use.
A mason and carpenter workshops were set up and Dell and Paula set about crafting the first few doors, tables, chairs and beds using the materials collected.
By the time that the first few tables and chairs were built the two nameless farmers had already completed their mining operations.
After the tables and chairs were placed in the new mess hall the two farmers returned to tending to their farming plots.
Having little to do, the farm area was expanded slightly and a seed storage was built to avoid confusing the poor earth ponies, they are farmers after all, not scientists, its not like they can figure out how to carry one bag of seeds instead of bringing an entire barrel of them right?
The farmers prepare new plots, but leave them be for when they are needed.
Paula's and Dell's offices are set up with doors, tables and chairs.
Being a therapist, Paula gets a slightly bigger office and chairs for her clients/patients.
The dormitory is set up with a door and four beds, your party finally has someplace to rest, even though that place is shared with several other ponies.
Your privacy can wait.
A chicken coop is set up for the small herd of chicken you brought with you.
Your party can't help but feel that these chicken will play an important role later on, but you can't figure out why.
Just keep them happy for now and let them breed a little, boiled eggs are as good as any food in the post apocalypse.
You guys set up a scavenge processing area complete with a salvage yard and supply depot, but you have little time to care about picking through your loot.
You become quite concerned with your safety, so you plan out some "airlocks" based on the pre-war stable entrance design.
It will take some time to complete, but once you are done you'll be nigh untouchable by anything above.
While the first few expansions are dug out your lone Protectapony is tied up and stationed by the entrance to act as a sentry.
While digging tunnels you figure that, eventually, you might end up having visitors in the form of traders.
You aren't the only ponies who knew about the area being a sunken goldmine, somepony is going to come and check up on you to see if you managed to collect anything of value.
So you design a little trade depot, an area in which caravans can come and set up and conduct trade with you.
The hole that acts as your entrance is also enlarged a bit to allow for the passage of wagons, should the traders bring any with them, somehow, through the thick of the swamp.
The actual airlocks are designed, you set up designations for bridges and begin producing floodgates (*secretly cog shaped doors*), all you need now is time, and a good mechanic to set all of those up for you.
It's a shame that you don't have any in your party...
A migrant party arrives!
Six ponies, you only recognize one of them: Replica, the broken basket case of a mare which used to lead the abandoned stable of Pineapple.
While none of you were there you heard rumors and stories about how it was like, apparently she managed to keep everypony alive, but at the cost of her sanity, she is rumored to be a bit of a nut case now, obsessed with the impossible task for growing pre-war fruit in the irradiated wasteland.
She seems calm however and explains that she is handy with both a hoe and a wrench, she'll act as a farmer and mechanic for now.
The migrants bring a bighorner which, surprise surprise, becomes according to one of the migrants an "adult" bull on the exact same day of arrival.
You butcher it for meat.
New beds are placed in Paula's and Dell's private bedrooms and stone coffers and cabinets are ordered for both (so they have somewhere to keep their paperwork and personal belongings).
There are some disgruntled murmurs about it, but Replica tells them all that they will certainly deserve all of it if your new stable becomes anything like Pineapple was.
New chairs and tables are placed in the mess hall, it isn't as cramped anymore and there isn't as much fighting over seats as there was before, everyone can enjoy their meals in peace and quiet.
Four new beds are placed in the dormitory and more still are ordered.
You know that more ponies will make their way to your bunker, and to host them you'll obviously need more beds.
The last thing you guys do is sit down and talk about your defenses.
You only really have three capable ponies as of now (4 if you include the Protectapony), Byakugan the swordspony, Cradle Scrubglee the hammerpony and Crow Kingdompumpkin, some guy who worked as a security guard over at Lemon.
While you have no weapons you agree that it would be a good time to plan their future militia.
Three "squads" are then founded, a swordspony squad led by Byakugan, a hammerpony squad by Cradle and a internal security squad led by Crow (or at least temporarily led by him, he made it pretty clear that he had no idea what a security chief even did).
So endeth the first session of... someplace.
Things were quiet, you suffered no serious injuries or problems, and things are shaping out nicely this early on.
Here are the current (if only slightly outdated) screencaps of what the stable looks like:
