April 22nd, 109The stream still refuses to Thaw, and what's worse, we have refuges arriving to join us. Eight of them in total, more than doubling our number, plus some large animals. The more hands are welcome for their work, but they stretch our already thin supply of drink. If there is no thaw soon, we may have to resort to the brewing alcohol... from tarnish stalks.
Our kin arrived with much hubbub, as the golden mamaphint they brought charged the herd of Panserblekks. It stomped one of them badly, and chased another almost into our burrow. Fortunately, it turned around, and no one else was hurt. Perhaps a vicious and overprotective act, but if the wounded Panserblekk dies, we might eat at least well.
May 12th, 109No thaw, yet still we survive. We are nearly out of cactus juice, and we still have months yet before the Heart-of-The-Desert crop is ready. Perhaps our Aphididas have some honeydew for us, despite how the cold has hindered them.
May 17th, 109Star and Expedition say it's too dangerous to work on the wall, as the Panserblekks are roaming through our "pasture". They don't seem to be bothering the Aphididas, but we don't want to risk any trouble. I won't press them.
May 24th, 109We spotted a strange creature today, out on the frozen ocean.
It's bigger than us, and has a wicked beak, but other than that it doesn't seem too dangerous. Very fat, trundling along on its belly and wings... perhaps we should keep an eye out for these if we run short on food.
June 1st, 109We live still. The juice is gone but our Aphidada keep us from thirst. I think we should try breeding them soon, for if more people show up, their current honeydew will not be enough.
June 28th, 109Got some tea grown now. Now just to figure out how to brew it in our situation. Oh, what a long, cold summer.
July 3rd, 109Our Aphididae are nymphing! Oh, such a relief! I had feared the cold had made them unable to breed. More honeydew is much needed.
July 11th, 109Expedition and Star, those brilliant, crazy fools! They've figured out a way to make a greenhouse roof out of
ice. It will let the light through, yet won't melt despite the warmth beneath. Well, anything to protect the crops from the snow!
July 16th, 109We saw a much larger one of those funny ice birds. Quite larger than us, but still moving so awkwardly. I'd still say we could take one down, if need be.
One of our dogs has given birth to a couple of pups. They make companions than the spiders, I must say.
July 23rd, 109And now the spiders have procreated. Here's hoping Whelp enjoys Dirt's little baby.
August 5th, 109My, my, more refugees! Thank goodness our Aphididae have multiplied! Five of them in total, no pets. One of them, Aether, is a blacksmith, but we have no metal here. I wish we had some, then we could make better tools. Perhaps we might have trade eventually.
August 14th, 109Oh dear. It seems that 2 large herds of Panserblekks are converging on our site. And this in the middle of us needing to repasture our livestock to break up fights and finish the greenhouse roof. Oh, I really hope none of these beasts turn violent.
September 12th, 109Good tidings! A supply caravan has come from our kin. I suddenly realize we have very little to trade, but perhaps our two resident geniuses can knock something together. I see they've brought wood, seeds, and drink, all of which we need badly!
September 13th, 109Well, I'll be! Another caravan, from the elves! I know star doesn't trust them, but they've always seemed a charitable folk to me. So nice of them to come out all this way for us. And they've brought plenty of wood!
