Unsupported aerial attacks never work on fortified positions.
Largest fortifications in the world.Considered impregnable. Neutralized by 56 gliders of the german forces in less than 6 hours.
Thats really cool. I thought we were talking about hot dropped Imperial Guards into a Chaos Marine base that was prepped by artillery though?

EDIT: Also if you read a bit further you'll see that:

The paratroopers had 6 losses. For 78 men (Wikipedia is confused of the number) versus 650 soldiers hidden in the largest fortifications in the World, that's pretty good.

And well, when the infantery arrived, the fortress had already been disabled. The infantry never had to fight anyone. Point is, no military action is unsupported these days.

You guys could potentially recruit troops, requisition the aircraft and equipment, and then train them as dropp troopers but that'd be extremely costly and time consuming for you. Taking away from the potential artillery, dedicated trench infantry, sappers, etc. that you could've gotten instead which would benefit you more then the drop troopers since you are a siege regiment.

Guys, this is Warhammer 40k. Just call the Elysians and let them die. On a side note. If we do well, we might advance and get more regiments under our command. Like paratrooper regiments. For now, forbid ALL loot from Chaos sources. Even ammo. Chaos is dangerous,and we don't want Inquisitorial attention.

For now, forbid ALL loot from Chaos sources. Even ammo. Chaos is dangerous,and we don't want Inquisitorial attention.
that is why we should burn it all.
lets drop napalm on it then shell it for a few days

Beginning the update now, make any last minute additions or suggestions for the assault plan you have a few hours to make them while I work on the update.

Preferably ensure everyone has facial coverings of some sort, and cut exposed skin to minimum. Sounds like the base is going to be full of filthy Destroyer diseases.

You order all the squad leaders, and battalion commanders to gather around as you begin to describe the plan, giving each unit its orders and deployment commands. After a few minutes your infantry are already moving into position, and the Scouts had managed to contact the Volgar 2nd though they quickly found at that they were already engaged with a sizable encampment a few kilometers to the west and would be unable to help.

Around the time you receive confirmation that the two groups of infantry are about to be in position the sound of fire breaks the silence as las fire blasts down from behind the wall towards your eastern front. You see a few men drop to the constant fire coming from the wall before your formation managed to fire back, near twenty-five men open up with concentrated fire upon the wall face mere seconds after they were discovered.

On the far side of the compound your men open fire upon the cultists now traversing across the upper parts of the wall, and the walkways strung between the trees. The sudden assault from the western flank sends Chaos soldiers flying off the walkway in some places, elsewhere a bridge breaks sending a few more cultists who were rushing for one of the autocannons plummeting to their deaths. The return fire from within the compound is sparse and unorganized barely scathing the western front at all as only one man collapses to the enemy fire.

With both fronts now engaged you rush froward out of the trees raising a battle cry as you charge the entrance to a camp, a wide pass between two of the trees that was left open so any could enter freely. However as you near the entrance you see something that makes you go pale as fear grips your heart, on the far side of the camp a massive hulking figure pushes its way out of a tent, in one hand it holds a chainaxe decorated with symbols of Chaos and the other is covered by a crude chain fist stained red.

It is not the weapons but the figure that brings you fear, you nearly stop in your tracks as the World Eater begins to walk in your direction, as a cultist gets in his way the Chaos Marine backhands the lowly soldier sending the ruins of his head flying across the compound. You watch as one of your men turns to flee and his head explodes, a round from the Commissar-General's bolt pistol had taken him in the back of the head, yet the sight brings determination back to you and you begin to yell over the vox,

"Lasguns to max power, focus fire on that fething World Eater right now, for Volgar, for the Imperium, for the God Emperor exterminate them all or die trying!"

In answer several flashes of bright light stab at the World Eater's helm turning its head aside slightly but not even slowing its stride, flipping your gun to full-auto you mash down the trigger and fire from the hip. Your fire pings off the monster's power armor sending it blasting down into the ground, soon after your personal guard joins in covering the Chaos Space Marine in a wave of las fire. When the smoke and flashes of light clear you see several holes melted through the armor revealing the pale, corrupt skin beneath and bringing a feral howl from the Marine's throat that sends chills down your spine.

With that the monster grips his chainaxe in both hands, and charges straight at you roaring out in a low gothic,

"Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!"

By the time he is finished with the battle cry you lie within range of his axe and its screaming down at you with its teeth whirring in anticipation, just before the axe reaches your head four swords lash out and meet it. Inscribed on the side of the dull grey blades in ancient runes of their ancestors is an ancient proverb of Volgar, 'In the God Emperor's name we charge willing into hell, screaming defiance to the last.' They were blades given to the Kings of Volgar's chosen knights, you realized with a slight tinge of sadness they were blades that only you and the men in your command battalion wielded wielded.

With a roar the remaining four soldiers of your personal guard leap forward hacking at the World Eater, stepping back the World Eater fends off six of the men with his chainaxe, and with the other he lashes out with his chainfist. Two blades lash up to block the Chaos Marine's attack, but the blades shred as they meet the full blow of the chainfist head on, having failed in stopping the fist you watch as it tears a man's chest to ribbons leaving his body to fall to ground with a sick splash.

Before the World Eater can come to bear on the now lone trooper a trio of bolt shots riddle the front of the thing's power armor, and the resulting explosion cracks the armor straight down the center leaving a gap in its defenses which Kalman takes advantage of. Slamming his chain sword into the World Eater's chest, the monster spasms and its chainaxe shreds three of your personal guards and tears into Commissar Kalman's side before the hulking Chaos Marine falls still.

As Kalman kicks the World' Eater's unmoving corpse off his chainsword the air is filled with the hollow thump of frags exploding from every side, and cultists are thrown from the walls and catwalks to the sides most already dead from the shrapnel. In the entrance any surviving cultists are torn apart by point blank explosions or simply slump to the ground as they see the corpse of the World Eater, all will to fight gone. You pull yourself from those sights as Commissar Kalman gives you a grin, and speaks up,

"The sight of that World Eater dying must have been a shock to them, I saw a whole group of them that had almost reached the autocannons stop and commit suicide upon sight of their fething Champion lying dead on the ground. Time to see if you can command search and destroy operation as well as you led this assault."

Looking about you take in the battlefield, your men are scattered about the field just as surely as the cultists do, soon enough the casualty reports roll in leaving you to think on how to make this assault worth it ...

Wow we lost an entire veteran squad?



Check the casualties for any wounded who can be saved, gather up supplies from the dead, " allow " the stormtroopers to lead the advance to take out the AA guns.

 Push in fast for the AA guns directly, use melta bombs and krak grenades to destroy them.

Veterans and personal guard to focus all fire on chaos marines first cultists second, 4 remaining guardsmen squads to secure the flanks of the assault party.

Push in fast, 2 guardsmen squads take over the 2 auto cannons and use them to fire into the compound at any chaos forces, the remaining force pushes for the AA guns directly, use melta bombs and krak grenades to destroy them.

Veterans and personal guard to focus all fire on chaos marines first cultists second, 2 remaining guardsmen ranks to secure the flanks of the assault party.

No using the autocannons, they're likely corrupted.

No they are taking it exactly as they should, it could possibly corrupt your men if they touched it even for a millisecond, this chaos thing is a power that can devour entire planets, cause heads to explode, kill millions in seconds, and much much more :3
