Welcome to the Tales of Magic RTD OOC thread. Tales of Magic will be an Urban Fantasy with future elements RTD.
You will be able to create your character here for the upcoming rtd, ask questions regarding the game itself and read lore about the world you are playing in.
The rules,dice sheets,etc will be revealed with the 'Real' RTD thread. Over the course of the next 2-3 hours i will be adding more material to this thread. Lore is an exception, i will give some initial lore about certain things but more lore will be added as questions are asked or the story progresses.
First i will add the sign-up sheet, so that people may already start joining the rtd!

Magic_____________________________________________________________________________
First, before you make a choice, i will have to give an brief explanation of how magic works in my RTD. I don't have the exact word or name for it but it was suggested as
"Reagent based Magic" in the chat. The concept is simple.
Reagent based magic means that you cannot ‘Create’ something out of nothing. You have to use your surrounding in all kinds of ways to use your magic, this of course differs per magic ( Though it is not uncommon that 2 magics use a similar resource to work).
For example. To use fire magic you need to create fire. You can create fire by having:
- Igniting the reagents (With a finger flick for example)
- Oxygen
- Flamable materials in the vicinity
- Raw mana
Some magic's require creativity to be properly used, so think well before you choose a type of magic. Because it’s hard to obtain a different magic.

For each magic i will explain: What the magic utilizes, some 'forced' characteristics which its users have and a couple strengths and weaknesses.
I will not reveal every strength and weakness as that is something that the user/player has to find out for himself.
What? Fire magic represents the use of anything related to fire manipulation.
Traits:- Quick tempered
- fiery passion
- Skilled in the arts of dance
Weakness(es)- Excessive amounts of fire in small spaces, causes the rapid consumption of air. This may lead to suffocation.
- Lack of oxygen means no fire, so you won't be casting fire while being underwater.
Strength(s)- Fire can potentially burn trough nearly everything, as long as the fire is hot enough.
What? Water magic represents the use of anything related to Water manipulation.
Traits:- Calm
- Soothing Presence
- Light blue eyes
Weakness(es)- Water needs to be constantly flowing or else it will stop working.
- If the user is impaired of movement, then you can't keep the water flowing. Thus you are unable to use water magic.
Strength(s)- Has healing capabilities
- Plentiful, if you are creative.
- User doesn't suffocate underwater
What? Earth magic represents the use of anything related to earth manipulation.
Traits:Weakness(es)- Suspect able to change
- Slow element
Strength(s)- Total Control
- Nearly unlimited resource
What? Wind magic represents the use of anything related to wind manipulation.
Traits:- Air-headed
- Wear Baggy Clothing
- Swift
Weakness(es)- Air magic is suspect able to the natural winds direction and strength, so if you don't match the direction of the wind your spells will be weaker depending on how hard the air is blowing. Eventually you will be able to make this effect lesser or completely nullify it.
Strength(s)- 3rd fastest element
- Can be used to enhance weapons
What? Electricity magic represents the use of anything related to electric-current manipulation.
Traits:Weakness(es)- Materials which don't conduct electricity, won't be harmed.
- Highly volatile so friendly fire is possible

- 2nd fastest element
- Easy to hit multiple enemies with
What? Metal magic represents the use of anything related to metal manipulation.
Traits:- Iron Will
- Skilled metalcrafters
Weakness(es)- Metal can aid some other magic types in a negative way.
- Needs metal
Strength(s)- Metal is awfully common.
- Great for defense
What? Ice magic represents the use of anything related to ice manipulation, it's a mutation of water magic.
Traits:- Low body temperature
- Wears warm clothing
Weakness(es)Strength(s)- Ice can have metal-like qualities
- Ice can be made into shapes, unlike water.
- Ice often impairs enemy movement.
What? Mind magic represents the use of anything related to thought manipulation.
Traits:- Influential
- Like to trick people
Weakness(es)- Has no real combat spells outside of mind manipulation
- Can only be used on living creatures
Strength(s)- Highly Diplomatic magic
- You can let others do your bidding, if they fail their resist rolls.
What? Body magic represents the use of anything related to body manipulation.

- Like to wear hats.
- Skilled in CQC

- Anti-physical magic, so weak against magic based things.

- Deadly in CQC

What? Gravitation magic represents the use of anything related to gravitation manipulation.
Traits:- Relaxed
- Carry a small token which they can experiment on.
Weakness(es)- Very dangerous if not used correctly.
Strength(s)- Powerful if you are creative.
What? Void magic represents the use of anything related to Void manipulation.
Traits:- Relaxed
- Carry a small token which they can experiment on.

- Best teleportation magic
- Good spell nullifying capabilities
What? Sound magic represents the use of anything related to the manipulation of vibrations, it’s a mutated type of wind magic.
Traits:- Like music, so they listen to it often.
Weakness(es)- Sound spells get weaker the longer they have to travel
- You can only use the sound you make for the magic
Strength(s)- Lots of area damaging spells
- Quite a lot of impairing spells

Traits:- Friendly
- Wear a nun-like hat
- Don't fight often
Weakness(es)- Non-combat magic, though you can hurt the undead.

- Protective charms can be very powerful
What? Death magic represents the use of anything related to creating death ( Curses, plagues, raise the undead.)
Traits:- Users enjoy causing death
- Communication with the undead
Weakness(es)- Magic can only cause death
- People dislike you
- Life magic hurts you, instead of healing you.
Strength(s)- Easy to kill people with.
- Intimidating to fight against.
What? Sun magic represents the use of anything related to Sunrays manipulation.
Traits:Weakness(es)- At night, your power is significantly weaker
Strength(s) What? Moon magic represents the use of anything related to Moon rays manipulation.
Traits:- slightly pale
- Prefer to wear hoodies
Weakness(es)- At day the power of some of your spells is significantly weaker.
Strength(s) What? Blood magic represents the use of anything related to blood manipulation.
Traits:Weakness(es)- Can only use blood of dead beings or beings which are willing to give their blood.
- Over using your blood may cause anemia
Strength(s)- Blood can be hardened to metal like qualities
- They can transfuse any blood type to any blood type
What? Rune magic represents the carving of runes to use magic.
Traits:- Bearded (not if female)
- Prefer canes as weapons
Weakness(es)- Can use nearly every magic, but much weaker than if you were a magic specific mage.
- If you can’t draw the symbols, then your magic is useless
Strength(s)- Can carve runes into weaponry to give them magical effects
- Runes can be prepared beforehand
What? Money magic represents the use of anything related to money manipulation.
Traits:- Like cash
- Know how to use trading opportunities
Weakness(es)- They need money to cast spells, if they have none they can be considered useless.
Strength(s)- Rising Power
- Can influence the market with their magic
What? Writer magic represents the writing of poetry to create their magic.
Traits:Weakness(es)- You need to be able to write, or else you can’t use your magic
- Your poetry needs to be good to cast something.
Strength(s)- Access to every magic except death magic at any power, as long as your poetry is long and good enough.
What? Alchemy magic represents the transmutation or brewing of materials to perform magic.
Traits:- Excellent Herbalists
- Understand that nothing is for free.
Weakness(es)- If you cannot move, you cannot use your magic.
- If you cannot present equal materials to what you want to do, it may cost you dearly.
- Equivalence Gate
Strength(s)- Access to every magic at any power, as long as equal material is given.
- You can both brew and use transmutation circles to create magic
These are some of the magic’s I thought up, if you have a suggestion or would like to see a particular type of magic which is not on the list, then please talk to me about it. We maybe can add that magic to the list.
Also if you have a question regarding a magic, like an example of a spell or mechanics about the magic then please ask. You may do this by PM’ing me if you wish to keep it secretive or you can just post the question and I will publicly answer it.

Nulls_____________________________________________________________________________
Why would you want to be an Null when there is all this magic? Well… maybe because of Order Magic, more specialized weaponry and EXO-suits! I will explain them one by one.

Order Magic_____________________________________________________________________________
Order magic is anti-magic. Its users enforce the laws set on magic use and punish those which misuse it. It is not like regular magic as you can only restrict, destroy and suspend the use of magic to keep order in the world.
In the world there are magic laws, with those laws comes power which the order mages use to subdue misbehavior. Depending on who creates the law, there comes a power level to which extend you can restrict people. If no laws are set, then you cannot enforce the law and punish anyone misusing magic.
- The Emperor has the absolute word; if he sets a law then it affects the whole world to any power level. His word is absolute and so is his judgment.
- The council of six comes second; their power is absolute as well but they cannot enforce it on the entire world, but only on regions owned.
- The rulers come third; their power depends on how liked or respected they are by their folk, they can only enforce laws on land they own.
- The organizations come fourth; their power depends on the size of the organization and the amount of members they have, they cannot set laws on any land but they can propose temporary laws to the rulers of the land.
- The user comes fifth; your power is the weakest and you cannot enforce any rules yourself without proposing it to the rulers.
Strength(s)- Can subdue any type of magic
Weakness(es)- Use a law book to perform their magic
- Dependant on laws to use their magic

Specialized Weaponry_____________________________________________________________________________
Because Nulls cannot use magic they have to re compensate with something, namely Specialized Weaponry. Specialized weaponry are weapons like guns,sword, hammers, anything that can be considered a 'real' weapon but engineered to be twice as powerful as they normally would. SW is also often rune-inscribed making them so much more deadly with all the added effects.
Magic users cannot use this weaponry because of certain precautions taken, this does not include weaponry which they themselves created.

EXO-Suits_____________________________________________________________________________
EXO-Suits are the product of a very long research done by Nulls. This research was shortly started after the appearance of magic and when they discovered that not everyone could use it. The purpose of this project was to develop suits which nulls can use to battle mages. In this project, Order magic was discovered as well. Order magic was researched in a different project shortly after the completion of the EXO-suit project.
EXO-Suits can only be used by non-magic users due to the presence of Mana-Cores and MIF-Field detection.
EXO-Suits come in 4 kinds.
Civilian, Light and Heavy EXO-suits and Mech Armor.

The suits_____________________________________________________________________________
Civilian suits are meant for those which will not be involved in combat and they use them for work-purposes only.
Light EXO-suits are similar in design to the Crysis suit. They retain their agility while enhancing the user’s ability to do something, depending on the light suit equipped. Light EXO-suits are the most common type of suit besides the civilian variations.
Heavy EXO-suits are similar in design to the light ones, but they are able to wield bigger and stronger weaponry, equipment and armor. Heavy EXO-suits are used in more harsh circumstances when the light variation just doesn’t do the job.
Mech armor is truly the most fearsome and dangerous equipment Nulls can field. Mech armor is able to wield the most powerful weapons, equipment and armor Nulls have created. Their size can be equal to large-buildings. Though rare to see, they are fielded sometimes against high level targets when the deed needs to be done without any chance of failure.
To give an idea of how big the EXO-suits and mech armor are, here a 2 pictures.

In this picture you can see the size difference between a human and mech armor. Keep in mind that it's a medium sized mech.

Magic choice: Ice
Appearance: A slender young man, with some teen still left in. Dandy, effeminate, a bit vain, playful and rarely serious, enjoys pulling pranks and annoying people, but he can be cold and serious when he needs to be.
As with all Ice mages, he has a rather low body temperature. He typically wears layered clothing - high collared, snowflake patterned turquoise-azure top/jacket with over-long sleeves and matching over-long suspender pants, fixed to his belt, over a warm, tight dark blue sweater and slacks, over a shirt and longjohns, as well as white silk gloves, stylish, sleek ice blue shoes and actually quite fuzzy earmuffs.
He takes great care of his hair, worn in a high ponytail style at the back and over one eye at the front. It's about chin length and icy blue, but that's not his natural hair color (he just feels an ice mage should have appropriate hair). His face is smooth and rather long, with paleish skin, a long nose and narrow chin. He has purple eyes and carefully done eyelashes.
Bio: A mystery, wrapped in an enigma, sealed within a secret... that's what he'd like it to be, anyway. He is, actually, a runaway and a cat burglar with a great passion for fashion. Lately, feeling he had enough money to pay the bills for a good while and tired of the police breathing down his neck, he decided to go legal, changing his look to his current one. All he does right now is taking on odd jobs, working part-time in a boutique, a little tailoring on the side, some sculpturing and practicing his ice magic.

Appearance: A young man with a calm, calculated demeanor, he prefers clothing that is fashionable, but understated. He walks with a decided limp, requiring a cane to keep up pace with other people. He has a fairly scruffy beard that he cannot seem to keep trimmed despite his best efforts
Bio: Jeremus has spent his life in a fair amount of privilege, he isn't a member of the nobility, however both of his parents are money mages, which has given his family quite a bit of influence. However this changed when a group of Mage-haters attacked the family home with advanced weapons and exo-suits. Jeremus mother and father were overwhelmed, as they had no training to use their abilities in combat. Jeremus was nearly killed as well, having taken a shot to his left leg, but he managed to use his powers to set small traps as he fled, assisting his escape. He now is saddled with a very noticeable limp, he can walk on his own, but not at the same speed as other people. Jeremus is now thrust out into the world with only the clothes on his back (which are well-off, but still) and a cane he managed to grab on his way out.

Appearance: A man of average height, he is rather fit and muscled. He has short salt and pepper hair and a well kept beard. His grey eyes are confident and authoritive. He usually wears grey pants, boots, a shirt with rolled up sleeves and a tie. He has some heavy scarring on his right arm that goes all the way up to his chin.
Bio: A cop in a small precinct, Roland had met his fair share of the lowest scum of the earth. Robbers, murderers, you name it and he's locked them away. The worst kind are always those goddamned magic users who do it just for the kick, just because the can. He feels it is his duty to put any lunatic away, even if it costs him his life, which it nearly did on numerous occasions. As such, Roland would like to see more restrictive magic laws and though he'll never openly say it, he resents magic users.
Outwardly, Roland is a decent enough sort. He is usually able to keep his cool, something he learned could come quite in handy when dealing with criminals. He likes doing things by the book, slow and methodically. Underneath it all, though, he's still bitter over the murder of a junior officer under his command. When the stress piles up, the cracks start to show and he'll get more violent and direct. Over the years of his service, he's become disillusioned with the laws. Though they usually serve their purpose, more than once has he been unable to stop a criminal due to the indecisiveness of local magistrates or loopholes in the laws. Really, he's become quite fed up with these paper-pushers and their rules, some days he really just wants to take the precincts heavy riot suit for a spin and blast away some crooks. But even though he feels this way, he is still an officer of the law and the law frowns upon wanton destruction somewhat.

Appearance: A handsome man with short blonde hair, pale green eyes and an impressive physique. Tends to wear pressed tan jeans, a blue suit jacket and a garish tie depending his mood. Occasionally sports a panama hat and shades. Though this is merely his favorite form-he's afraid to admit he can't remember what he looks like sometimes.
Bio: Gerald is a skilled body mage firstly-but, most people known him quite indirectly as the magical stunt double of many famous action movie stars-he's learned to master the ability of 'becoming' his roles, even taking on their appearance and mannerisms-using his magic to physically change his body to any human form he needs. He's played almost everything imaginable-gunslinger, spy, serial killer, hardboiled cop, space marine-even going so far as to emulate a woman once in a historical drama.
Being something of a dashing playboy in his off time, Gerald Blue lives the 'ultimate life'. Lots of money and little responsibility, too many exes and a substance abuse problem-mostly alcohol for now-dealing with the pressure of constant performance and the surprising ease at which he can lose himself in a role. In fact, he sometimes feels made of clay-infinitely malleable to the demands of his job, but not a real person any longer...but, such thoughts he keeps buried deep-very deep. One wonder when it will claw its way to the surface.

Magic Choice: Alchemy
Appearance: Gold coloured eyes. Naive and innocent aspect, however there seems to be a shadow of sadness in her face. Blueish hair, which may look like white at first glance, falls to the middle of her back. She has fair skin. She is of average height. She usually wears a well-fitted, vanilla shirt, with short sleeves, and a knee-length, sky blue skirt with tangerine embroidery.
Bio: Both her parents were poor Null, her powers were discovered at the age of four, when she transmutated some ice, milk and fruits onto an icecream in front of her mother.
Her father was an assasin of mages, and would kill her if he discovered she was a mage, thus her mother gave her to some friends.
This saved her life once again when both her parents died due to a fatal plague, she was then taken care by the friends of her mother, who treated her as their daughter until she could go to the magic school and learn.
She has spent quite some time on the school, she is/was very passionate about magic, and learns/t quite fast, however, she still charges up the pain for her mother death.

Magic choice : Metal
Appearance: Alexei is a fit young man with short light brown hair and hazel eyes. Several strands of both lighter and darker tones of brown as well as a few crimson-colored ones run through his short, messy hair. He's fond of wearing black jeans, simple t-shirts and coats or jackets, always decorated with very generous amounts of metallic chains, skulls or studs. His favorite footwear are boots, most likely than not, steel-toed heavy-duty ones. Large headphones with a built-in music player are always either resting around his neck or covering his ears and playing his favorite songs.
Bio: Alexei was born to a fairly peculiar family who lived a rather comfortable life in a good neighborhood. Most of his family's peculiarity came from the fact most of them were arms dealers and terrorists; to be more precise, their business were basically or mostly legal but the oppressive governments fighting the rebels the Kessler family supplied with weaponry hated their guts immensely. To be more His father was a Null, but his mother was a mage and it didn't take long for her to get him registered at the first opportunity when he began showing magical aptitude for bending and twisting metallic objects. From an early age, Alexei was attracted to almost anything made of metal, mechanics and History; of course, much of his interest in those books came from reading the several stories of conflict, toil and war across the ages which reflected his curiosity about war machines and the evolution of metal's usage. His interests grew with him, growing progressively stronger as he began messing with mechanics, becoming a hobbyist metalcrafter and mechanic.
The development of his skills was welcomed by his family, which then began using him to produce both replacement parts for guns under license and their own prototypes in the hopes of being both the source and the middleman in the future. Alexei didn't complain due to his own interest in firearms and in the end he was working - and getting paid - for doing something he enjoyed, while he could devote his free time to different activities, such as adding yet another sword to his collection or repairing the old Barracuda in the garage.
Of course, not everything is roses in the business of weapon dealers, specially of ones who decide to take sides. His parents and a good part of his closest relatives who didn't escape fast enough were arrested on account of several charges, though the young man wasn't connected to the family's business and left behind unscathed by the law enforcement. Now his parents await judgement behind bars and Alexei is living on his own, hoping they will escape with a slap on the wrist.
