Really depends on what aspects appeal to you.

Royalty gives you some more interaction with the outside world via the Imperials, either as allies or foes. And it adds some more stuff for leadership within your colony.

Biotech gives you stuff that more directly effects pawns. Bioengineering, different races (different enough sometimes to basically be aliens), stuff like that.

I wouldn't say that either of them adds anything I couldn't live without, but they're both good in their own ways. And, of course, having them opens up a bunch of mod related stuff.

Personally, I think Biotech adds FAR MORE replayable content than Royalty. You do Royalty's quest, and honestly unless you play Vanilla Royalty Expanded - Empire (or whatever it's called I forget and don't wanna google atm ) you have basically seen all it can offer outside of Psycasting, which admittedly I would say is a worthwhile thing to grab, but I'm pretty sure it's been added to base game by now?

Biotech meanwhile on top of letting you make basically any alien race you can imagine -though admittedly I have problems with how it works- and also gives you the ability to make your own mechanoid servants and war machines on top of adding functioning childhood mechanics and pregnancy without having to use The Forbidden Mod.

On that problem I have, it's mainly that you can't actually modify your species in game and use the pregnancy and child mechanics it adds, as all added genes are Xenogerms and not Endogerms, aka they aren't passed down to offspring. Depending on my playthrough I tend to use a mod that either adds a machine to make xenogerms endogerms, or I just have a mod that skips the machine and does that.

Really game. My first two nobles. What do they both get? 'Solar pinhole'. Underwhelming. Some light and warmth during solar flares I guess.

Wow. A pregnant pawn started giving birth. Doc and dad gathered. Then childbirth was cancelled, and she got our of bed and started hauling stuff while in mild labor.
A bit later, final stages of labour, colonists needs rescue.

She then pooped out a perfectly healthy baby while she was being carried to a bed.

I found a new way to play Rimworld recently. I've been creating logs on a word document and plugging the entries to ChatGPT

Here are two stories it created. The second story had even referenced the previous one:

The Bear’s Final Stand
While we were dealing with the raid, a bear on the other side of the map had picked a fight with the megaspiders and their scarabs.
The bear was dead now, but it hadn’t gone down quietly. Two mini-scarabs lay in its wake, their tiny bodies still in the snow. Free food for us.
The combat log told the story—it reads from top to bottom, but you have to read it in reverse to understand how the fight ended.

Battle Scars of the Wolves’ Den
John and I leaned against the warm stone walls, letting the heat from the steam geyser seep into our bones. Outside, the ice sheet stretched endlessly, but in here, we were safe—for now.
The battle was over, the raider was dead, but Rutabaga… well, he wasn’t walking quite right anymore.

He was holding his left foot up, inspecting the damage.
"Damn beast crushed it clean off," he muttered.

We let the Yttakin bleed out. We strip him of his apparel first. He had nothing much. John took his tuque.

He crawled a few cells away before being unable to crawl anymore due to the blood loss.

We didn't see but apparently there was a bear on the other part of the map who attacked the megascarabs

The bear died of course but there were 2 miniscarabs dead in his wake.

Hammer vs. Rutabaga: The Great Brawl of Stupidity
So Hammer and Rutabaga got into a fight.
And how did it start?
Rutabaga waved hello.
That’s it. That’s the crime.
Hammer, who has been irritated from being stuck indoors, decided this was unacceptable.
Sure, he could go outside, but, you know… it’s -27°C, and frostbite isn’t fun.
So instead of ignoring the greeting like a normal person, Hammer insulted Rutabaga by saying:
"You sodding son of a fart."
And thus, the brawl began.

Aftermath
The fight ended when Rutabaga, bleeding but victorious, simply said:
“Don’t be so sodding rude, Hammer.”
Then he limped back to his room to rest.
I made Hammer tend to Rutabaga’s wounds first (because, let’s be honest, that was his fault) before patching himself up.
On the bright side, Hammer gained some experience in melee combat (after missing four times, he kind of needed it), and he also leveled up his medicine skill while tending to their wounds.
So really, it was kind of a productive day—just, you know, at the cost of his dignity… and his nose.

There's also a mod called Rimsaga that tries to do this but I found that logs from my word doc is better since it contains my thoughts while creating the entries
