By prayer and combat we acknowledge Armok's power and goodness, our own neediness and dependence. It is therefore an act of the virtue of religion implying the deepest reverence for Armok and habituating us to look to Him for everything, not merely because the thing asked be good in itself, or advantageous to us, but chiefly because we wish it as a gift of Armok, and not otherwise, no matter how good or desirable it may seem to us. Prayer presupposes faith in Armok and hope in His goodness. By both, Armok, to whom we pray, moves us to prayer. Our knowledge of Armok by the light of natural reason also inspires us to look to Him for help, but such prayer lacks supernatural inspiration, and though it may avail to keep us from losing our natural knowledge of Armok and trust in Him, or, to some extent, from offending Him, it cannot positively dispose us to receive His graces. His graces in form of bloody battle axes, severed goblin limbs and free flowing blood.

Praise Armok and Strike The Earth.

It is us who have sinned; therefore we must head out and slay the sinners.
- Unknown, Inscribed at the Temple of Armok in the Mountainhomes.

No, the ones listed are just the ones that asked for a spot. Anyone can join, as overseer or dwarf.

I call a turn if possible and to be dwarfed on the first migrant wave, if that is possible as well.

A military dwarf if that can be arranged as well.

As in many games, please dorf me as a baby born in or migrating to the fortress. Name him/her "Timeless".  If the child ever grows to adulthood, he or she will wish to take an Overseer's turn.  Until then, he/she will merely provide colour (possibly red) to the embark population.

I suggest a professions title of "Neophyte" for babies, "Acolyte" for children and "Initiate" for peasants.  "Brother" or "Sister" titles to be added to noble positions with the "Father" or "Mother" titles reserved for Mayor/Baron/ect...

As such, I'd then be "'Timeless' <surname here>, Neophyte".  This name/title feature also will allow new migrants to be distinguished from ones already there, if the "commitment ceremony" happens to involve a burrow situated around one of Armok's wards.  New migrants are required to come to the commitment ceremony, which will then flush out any carp god sympathizers or vampires wishing to sup on innocent souls.  Those who pass the test are "blessed" with new honorifics and titles.  Those who do not are quickly dispatched by the altar guards and the cathedral welcomes any surviving migrants in with open arms.

I should also suggest that there be three sets of separate populations: The Keepers of the Dead, The Chosen and The Initiates.  Each should be completely separated from the others by airlock rooms.

The Initiates are the peasantry who fetch and carry for their betters, growing the food and minding the animals, but each are members of a squad that has continual training for 3 out of 10 squad-mates throughout the year.  It is the Initiates which form the first line of defense from outside aggressors, and who comprise the greatest population.  Any Initiate that is blessed with an artifact, becomes one of The Chosen and is assigned a room in the Sanctum and removed from the squad list.  Likewise, any Initiate who reaches "Master" in any weapon has earned the right to be reassigned to gaurd The Chosen and The Sanctum (Where all artifacts are displayed).  Finally, The Keepers of the Dead are those dwarves directly related to the original founders, whose sole purpose is to engrave slabs for the dead, record the history of their people in the "Labyrinth of Time" (long and many-branching hallways with their walls smoothed and engraved with masterwork carvings) and to survive any apocalypse visited upon the other two populations of dwarves.

Why wait for migrants, when you can embark with everyone. The embark party will be the 11 names dwarves.

"The powers of this country grow restless. Strange beasts have been spotted, brandishing sword and plow, thinking they are civilized. No heretic can truly be civilized, and they will know it. Otirdirs and Askans... even their names are an abomination. Nevermind. As long as we patrol the headlands, they pose no threat.
The Legion protects!"

A wagon slowly takes the crest of a hill, looking upon a shaded valley. Two rivers merge between the trees. A good spot. The wagon carries 11 dwarves, with strange garbs and a blood-red sword. One of them is drumming rythmically, slow and steady to the tact of the tuskoxens steps. Everything is covered in snow.

A Dwarven Outpost
You have arrived.  After a journey from the Mountainhomes into the forbidding wilderness beyond, your harsh trek has finally ended.  Your party of seven is to make an outpost for the glory of Armok.
There are almost no supplies left, but with stout labor comes sustenance.  Whether by bolt, plow or hook, provide for your dwarves.  You are expecting a supply caravan just before winter entombs you, but it is Spring now. Enough time to delve secure lodgings, ere the xen get hungry. A new chapter of dwarven history begins here at this place, "Hamerabbey, the Glory of God".  Strike the earth!

Lets take a closer look at the dwarves that sit on that wagon.

*FISHERMANS GUILD* This dwarf has joined the eccentric guild of fishers. Founded by the self-proclaimed king of the fishers, this guild is watched with distrust by other dwarves. How is sitting next to water, waiting for the fish to come to you a real profession? Regardless of what other dwarves think, the members of this guild have mastered the skill of the waiting game.

They also learn military tactics, leadership and situational awareness. They are used to pain, have a higher willpower and recuperation then civilians, tire slowly and are very agile.

They did not come alone. Other beings can be seen near the wagon. First of all the two oxen that pull it, but next to them are several small weasels that run around. And some other... things.

`Sawgile' Abantomem Journal

The Beginning

From the Mountainhomes, and into the wilderness, they say. For all the things this world supplies us, you start wondering why the glorious Dwarven race is not the only one on this world. Maybe this is Armok's way of telling us to gain supremacy over the feeble races that inhibit these lands, whether they be green, lush and beautiful or dirty, disgusting and evil.

The Legion, that's what we're calling ourselves, apparently. I would much rather we call ourselves the Armok Embassy, for we are here to spread the word of Armok and the powers that be that make us, the Dwarven race, the mighty race, the only race that should exist above all others.

But of course, Armok is a wise teacher. It has taught as many things, and one of them being that we must disguise our intent while we are weak. We must co-operate with the other foolish "intelligent" species that attempt to trade us goods until we are fully industrious. But I have high hopes for our journey, for being so close with my brothers and sisters, I shall triumph against all those that oppose us!

Praise Armok!

Add me to the overseer list. Also I can handle pretty extreme forts so if any overseer runs into lag death let me know and I can jump up a spot. Are we allowed DFHack commands like clean if major blood spread post siege causes problems?

`Grimmash' Stinthadtad likes strong acid, spring-loaded knives, anvils and sapphire golems for their rockiness.  When possible, she prefers to consume grizzly bear and boozebelly rum.

"Grimmash, you like to eat grizzly bears?"
"Yup."
"Like... grizzly bear meat?"
"No, grizzly bears."
"Entire bears?"
"Yup."
"But... arent they a lot larger then you?"
"Yup."

`Mc Marhgell' Bomrekdobar likes (library supplies), crystal glass, amulets and chains. He absolutely detests black widows.

"Who doesnt like Black Widow?"

`Big D the 145.' Gasisasob likes black lacquered, iron, tear of armok, crystal glass, the color Grazhir-white and crude javelins.  When possible, he prefers to consume root tea.
He is concerned about rejection and ridicule.  He can handle stress.  He is somewhat reserved.  He enjoys the company of others.  He is relaxed.  He is a pessimist.  He is put off by authority and tradition.  He is trusting.  He is modest.  He has a sense of duty.  He thinks it is incredibly important to strive for excellence.  He takes time when making decisions.

"You sound like a friend of mine, from far Britannia."
"From where?"
"Nevermind, just drink your tea, ok?"
"Very well then."

`The Old Ark' very rarely does more work than necessary. He has very little self-discipline. He likes working outdoors and grumbles only mildly at inclement weather.

*FISHERMANS GUILD* This dwarf has joined the eccentric guild of fishers.

"Fishers... typical"

`Meg Helmet' Keshshakadil is very strong and rarely sick, likes mountain halls, padded hoods, cragtooth boars for their impressive digging skills and purring maggots for their pulsating, soft, white bodies.  When possible, he prefers to consume liquid evil.

"I will stay far away from that one. Not a good sign if the cook likes evil maggots."

`Stormbuilder' Berathzamnuth likes iron, grand blood gem, the color crimson, throwing spears, leather armor and shoes.
She has an amazing memory, a sharp intellect, a good spatial sense and good creativity. She talks to inanimate objects when she's thinking.

"Maybe you should keep the animated weapons with you... maybe they will listen."

`Mc Jaxey' Thuvegsharsid likes dark fiends for their ancient knowledge.

"I have my eyes on you."

`Mc Muzz' Banikethbesh likes exploding catapult ammo, grand acid gem, piercing javelins, ...

"So... McMuzz, former Sergeant of the Third Ballista and Catapult Company, newly retired?"

`Mc Meph' Omtalzaneg has next to no empathy. He revels in chaos and disorder. His hair is clean-shaven.  His thin-irised sunken eyes are narrow. His eyes are cobalt.

"A priest through and through. They dont make him like that anymore."

`Splint' Cattenzursul likes butouls for their teeth. She absolutely detests bougenuings. She is mighty, tough and rarely sick.

"Splint..."
"Yes?"
"What is a butoul?"
"I dont know."
"But you like them?"
"Yeah, sure."
"And bougenuings? What are those?"
"I dont know. I only know that I hate their rotten guts."

`Sawgile' Abantomem has a natural ability with music. She is self-conscious. She loves new and fresh ideas.  She is candid and sincere in dealings with others.

*WRESTLER* Having undergone the garrison training, this dwarf has learned the fundamental rules of war. Wrestler training teaches unarmed combat and dodging above all else. They also learn military tactics, leadership and situational awareness. They are used to pain, have a higher willpower and recuperation then civilians, tire slowly and are very agile.

"Somehow... the character does not meet the profession."

// I beat my enemies with kind words which melts over their hearts.

If that doesn't work I sing a sad song of my comrades death, making their tears wet which distracts them from the battlefield and destroys their vision, making sure that they don't see that axe hammering down through their throat.

If all else fails, I screech so hard that windows themselves blow out.

Even the most tame of skills can be used in the battlefield!
