Toriga III's temprature variance across its orbit is unknown, but at present it is on average below -200 C, at two-thirds of the way from its returning apoapsis.   Toriga IV's is slightly below that.

Atmospheric pressures are hard to determine at this point, but roughly:
Toriga I - 1.0-1.3 atm
Toriga II - 0.6-0.8 atm
Toriga ||| - 1.1-1.5 atm - He 1/2, CO2 1/4, N2 1/4
Toriga IV - 0.0-0.1 atm - only nitrogen detectable
Toriga V - 0.7-1.0 atm - H2 3/4, N2 1/8, He 1/8

Asteroid mining would be extremely difficult and fairly dangerous.  Your ship is not equipped to do anything but fly and land.  It would be doable, but there would be a lot of risk of personel losses, ship damage, and so forth.  Also, there is almost no space left to put things in.

Oh well. Can we drop something from planet I's orbit to check ameno acids?

Yes, if you build it.  This will also be quite difficult.

Well, living on a planet with the wrong amino acids is harder, so lets build that probe.

Is it harder than living on a planet without amino acids? Not really. So I say we refrain from building the probe.

Well, living on a planet with the wrong amino acids is harder, so lets build that probe.

If the enviroment is too acidy for us, we can always change it. While it certainly would be somewhat sad to wipe out the "true" bio-system of this planet, we should be able to do it, given enoug time. Time that we will have someday, I wager. Not neccessarily in this game, but I do like the thought that these people will be able to lay claim to an earth-like eco-system and lifestyle at some point in the future.

Either way, purification of the air / water - if neccessary - can be done at greater scales than the production thereof. Yeah, other workarounds would work, but just building some air-filters and a "sewage-plant" is not hard. We can easily mass-produce two of the main neccesseties of human life, and with the temperatures food will also be far less trouble than anywhere else in this system.

Fly towards - and start orbiting - Toriga I
Let's see what our sensors can find out when closer to it. We want to watch at least a week or so if there is anything of note happening within the atmosphere, searching for a place to land, running scenarios about landing through the computers, quatro-checking the systems used in landing and so on.

Ameno acids are the building blocks of proteins. There is a 50/50% chance what way they will be formed on a world, and if they are the wrong sort you can not do ANYTHING with them in regards to farming or consuming.

Inother words, if we have the wrong acids on the world we are quite fucked, with us unable to grow food in the soil, eat anything native, etc.

Are you talking about wherether or not the Amino acids are left or right handed. Because honestly, we don't even have a guarantee that live here uses amino acids. Might as well use an entirely different system, for some reason or another.

Besides, not being able to ate the native plant life is not at all problematic. I mean, it's very likely that it's inedible in one way or another, and we quite frankly, don't care whether it is edible or not. Even if we for some reason wanted to eat them, we'd flush them through our Nutri-o-matic, which can resynthesize these things.

Also, doubt amino acids are important for plants. After all plants synthesize their own amino acids. They don't need to get them from the soil. Speaking of which, I don't think our planet has a soil.

Given that we can grow food on planets without any amino acids, it is quite obvious that we would not be fucked if the local biota had the wrong amino acid chirality. Seriously, why are you so worried about whether we can consume the life indigenous to Toriga I, especially since we expended a not-inconsiderable amount of effort to bring terrestial plants with us, which we know are edible.

Its always good to have the ability to forage. I mean, hell. you have to sent people to forage threequarters of the time you play dwarffortress.
and I may be wrong but consuming food with the wrong ameno acids may harm, and you cant keep kids or animals from eating things.

Depends on how much preprocessing, it can possible harm yes. But anyway, dwarf fortress does not make a good comparison here, and we can very easily keep kids and animals from eating things.

First of all, we have none of either, secondly, the planet is frozen for half the year, and scorching hot for the other part.

If they have alien chemistry then those are just as tasty as rocks. No problem, really
Besides that discussion is pointless before landing

I'd love dwarf-fortifying on the frozen fifth planet but as those is unsupported  Toriga I is our choice

Well, let me put it this way. Information like this which is (as far as I know) beyond the level of common knowledge, really has the chance to further enrich the gameplay and its choices. Mostly to make it harder, as would be in this case. So I like / value such input, because further variety and complexity can be quite the boon to a game. Problems are intruging afterall...  :P

But... Aseaheru, while you do have a valid point with all of that, and it very well may become a concern in the future of this game, at this moment I think it is more of a moot point. One that may hurt us in the future, sure, but not of immediate interest.

Even the atmosphere alone, which will grant us a safer landing, and the near-terrestrial temperatures and almost breathable air, are far more than we actually would have ever hoped for. It being a toxic wasteland on the organic level could never be as negative as the other planets, which would at best be lifeless deserts, without any other boons to truly speak of.

A more pressing concern would be the ores that we may or may not find on this planet, because else we actually could get struck back to pre-industrial times over the course of a few centuries. (Well, I would reason that we could do asteroid mining if we recycle our craft soon enough, but still)

Alright, moving to Toriga I.  You will have time to observe weather patterns and such once arriving in orbit, as well as choosing a landing point.
