"Ah, yes. At this point I was hoping to hear a negative answer, so this does bring me a lot of pleasure."
The hooded figure just snapped his bone fingers before the whole ground began to shake, until a massive creature emerged from it. Even if it wasn't close enough to the group yet, the toxic cloud it was producing was more than enough to weaken them, one step forward and it was going to be a death sentence. The monster itself carried a ragged cloth and an appearance that wasn't familiar even to the most experienced librarian; an abomination with multiple arms, each with different sizes and apparently capable of stretching themselves without any issue. While the cloth did cover most of its torso, it was still possible to see glowing green wings coming out of its back and a tail with a stinger.
"Meet The Great Venom. He was kind enough to lend me a hand, after all this is an advantageous situation for both of us. I did tell you I wasn't here to play games, mortals."
Suddenly a long sharp appendage was launched forward, slamming on the ground near Kaarina and Lycan, and even if the spear-like extension wasn't aiming for them, the toxic loud it began to release was going to do its job. The now chuckling god slowly brought its twisted skull-face closer to the group, clearly enjoying to take his sweet time to wear them down just with poison before landing the last blow.
"Now, where were we? Hand over the key or perish."

The toxic cloud also affected Seraphim, as it was starting to rust his armor.

: Urgh... Why do you want this key so much?

: Right now it matters less why do you want it than how much do you want it. It's very clever of you to have the Great Venom poison us so you wouldn't accidentally damage the key.

Seraphim started going into overdrive.

: But it will be of no use! The key is dangerously close to my plasma core, and as a last resort I will detonate it will all my power and destroy the key.

"And what makes you think a GOD can't kill you whenever he desires? He is just playing with you mortals, so lower your tone unless you want something worse than death. So any attempts to detonate yourself might end up interrupted and you will face an agony that goes far beyond whatever the Watcher had prepared for you."
"Anyone else want to play the hero here? Let me hear your voices, the mighty mercenaries defeating everything on their path...Only to PERISH right in front of the gates...Is that how you want it to end?"

reaching into my pack, I grab some cloth and begin damping it in preparation to wrap it around my face to act as a filter.
:"I'm modestly certain you're bluffing. If you had the option to completely trivialize us, you would have used it by now. I don't doubt that the winner of the 'worst body odor' competition is unpleasant to fight, but... what else you got?"

Ociel had closed his eyes, speaking quietly to himself - and to his god.
"Reaper, grant unto me the strength to persist in this world a while longer, even if it means being bereft of your embrace for longer still. Grant me the power to send to your chill grasp those that would defy it, and forestall the early departure of those that still have work to do in this world. . ."

"A bluff. You are nearly dead and you still believe I am bluffing...Yes, this should do it, Venom let us finish this already."
With the confirmation being given, no time was wasted as the massive toxic creature created extra limbs to make sure not a single soul was going to escape from being cut apart-Or at least that was the plan if it wasn't for the sudden thumping that was making the ground shake yet again.
"What is it this time?"
The thumping and clanking only grew louder, until another massive figure came out from the forest, slamming a glowing golden hammer right against the toxic god, pushing him away from the group and really far away from the battlefield without stopping for a second, leaving a trail of red light coming from both his chest plate and the cross that happened to be his visor. While the sudden assault was fast, it was still VERY possible to see the figure-Both when it moved in to interrupt the execution and when it was moving away pushing the Great Venom as far as possible, consequently the deadly cloud surrounding the mercenaries was gone, giving them a chance to catch their breath.
"...What."

: Looks like this is a war between gods, and yours has been taken busy by higher matters.

: What do you think happens now? That I detonate myself to keep you away from the key? No.

: Now I- no, WE, will detonate YOU!

"See what I mean? It never was a real option. Greater Powers are balanced by other Greater Powers, having one act for you releases their opponants to act equally against you. No clue how a priest doesn't already know this stuff."
this is total BS that im pulling out my ass, but no reason NOT to look like it was all planned.

"Heeey ya shit-eatin' bonemeal. We're back to the part where we can beat the crap outta ya." Lycan said, preparing his spear and moving into throwing range.

"Even after nearly getting yourselves killed, you cannot grasp the foe you are up against. This truly is disappointing, but I suppose explaining the situation does not hurt."
"See these soldiers? All Terranians, or used to be at least...Including their beloved king, so  in a way you will be killing their king-And trust me, spreading these news is easy for someone like myself. Your little group will be hunted down in every corner of this continent...And there's more."
"Little Dullahan, am I glad to hear those threats. It so happens we have another Dullahan under our care, one that so happens to be covered in runes...It would be unfortunate if we had to attempt to use her as a key, right? So be it 'heroes', prepare to face your own morals!"
