Chapter 12: Spoils of the Road

Time: Mid-Afternoon
(Via radio) "Were on our way back, found out a bunch and picked up an extra set of hands. Well see you soon."
(To group) "Might aswell search for things on the way back..."
Loot things on the way, otherwise provide over watch.
Search for materials to make spears and a shield out of on the way back.
Search for stuff that Charlie wanted on the way back.
Look for more trap materials on the way back. Or maybe a magazine for "personal time".
As before so again. Look for tech and stay with the group.
The Exploration Party high-tails it back to the Farm, along the way looking for anything of interest in the road or on its sides. Charles keeps his gun close, ready to provide emergency back-up to anyone in case its necessary.
Kyle looks around specifically for the sort of 'supplies' Charlie had requested. [Kyle Luck: 4+1] Just as it happens, he looks inside a wrecked car near the edge of the road to come across a relatively unscathed print of Penthouse!
Jason looks for materials that he could use to make traps with. [Jason Perception: 6+1] In the back of a truck, he discovers what must have been camping supplies before the Downfall: 6 Wooden Stakes, Reinforced Rope, a Tent, a Flare Gun and a Lighter. It wouldn't take much creativity to come up with something quite deadly, especially if combined with other materials that could be found elsewhere, or perhaps lent by teammates...
Big Joe, carrying the Cooler, (by default, since it wasn't clearly specified before and Big Joe is the "tough strong guy" of the group) searches for something that could be used to make Spears and a Shield. For a Spear it wouldn't be too difficult finding the main components, which would be a rock sharp enough to jab with and a large stick able to support the rock. The harder part would be finding proper binding material, but maybe his teammates would have something for that. A shield would be more complex, as it would require something like metal or hard plastic. A car door might work, though first it would have to be detached from its host vehicle and then reshaped into a proper shape, and a grip would need to be added to. If he wanted to go really old-school, he could attempt to craft a shield of wood, though that wouldn't be easy without proper instructions or guidance.
Decado continues his trek for tech. So far, he's come up with absolutely nothing. This changes however, when he finds an undamaged GPS system in one car. It's not functional, and it's quite dusty, but besides the lack of battery it looks fine. Perhaps the dust was a blessing in disguise, as any cleaner-looking GPS systems had been torn away long ago.
As the group travels, they get closer to the Farm, though a few of them could always make a detour to Charlie's Gun Store, which isn't too far off. He'd probably be interested in that copy of Penthouse.
Sit at a reasonable distance as the barn ventilates. Open the doors if it's not ventilating.
Check wind direction by the finger-licking method. If it's towards the barn, go open the doors on the other side, then return. This should speed up ventilation and keep the stench away from us.
Look for the others.
Alejandro uses a quick lick of the finger to check on the wind. It is towards the barn, but at the moment it isn't that powerful. Majikthise takes her cue as Alejandro walks up to the southern barn doors, and she escorts herself away from the structure. Alejandro swings the door open and backs up. He coughs, the scent stinging just about all of his facial senses, but he prepared for it adequately. The stench is nearly tangible, and inside is a mix of dead livestock and their waste products, creating an overall extremely unpleasant sight. Alejandro backs away, letting the wind do its work.
John heads over to the road, looking out for these other survivors. On the horizon, he spots oncoming dots shambling towards the Farm. That should be the others, hopefully, though it looks like some of them are considering a different direction...
