Stheno is surprised as Beryn's wyvern lifts her off the ground and carries her across the mountains.

"Well, you certainly know how to sweep a woman off her feet."

She then notices the hatchet Beryn discovered while in the air. "I see you've found something on your adventure. Do you mind if I borrow that? While this hammer serves, it is so dreadfully ungainly compared to my old throwing axe set."

Elanore stopped her reverie to notice that Lucretzia was asking why the bandits didn't stop. Jesseo's words echoed in her head. Sighing, she turned to the puppet Lady.
"...Probably because these guys are too foolish to stop and see what they're doing. If they won't stop, then I won't let them continue doing this any more."
  "Why? Why are you asking now? If this is getting to be too much, consider what would happen if we don't fight them. Those three people would've most likely perished." Her tone was even, not giving any hint of annoyance or sympathy.

[GiglameshDespair]

"I-I know it's right to f-fight them to protect others... but t-they could avoid this. T-they don't have to throw their lives away."

[Ochita]

"Could they? By the looks of their uniforms and by what Stheno said earlier... They're Deserters. They signed away their lives the moment they defected. They're dead men, they just don't know it yet."

[GiglameshDespair]

Lucrezia looked sad for a moment, Lady Rose's shoulders slumping in despondence.

"T-that's a sad w-way of things. They could have lived in peace..."

[Tiruin]

"Could they? By the looks of their uniforms and by what Stheno said earlier... They're Deserters. They signed away their lives the moment they defected. They're dead men, they just don't know it yet."

"Not necessarily. Knowing...this by heart, we only need to deal with their leader to get them to actually rethink the path they're taking. Someone with a loud voice must announce our intent here--fighting all this would only lead to ruin. Summarized in what Lucrezia said, anyway."

Jesseo reflected on that idea. She was pretty much, technically, in the same position as those deserters--though she didn't doubt they had skills; why were they doing all this though?
...She knew a ton of areas where they could rather invest their duty and abilities than...brigandry.

...Though was her own work, brigandry of a sort?

Elanore was quiet for a few moments.
  "Yes. They could've lived in peace. This is the life that they chose, now they have to face what they've done." Turning to Jesseo, she shook her head.
  "Are you certain that letting them go is the best idea? If we were to leave them alive, then we'd have to take them to the nearest authority, unless you're willing to let them loose on nothing but good will. That would only end in more brigandry, we both know that."

"Well...they can work with us. I mean, I bet Ethan would do with a bigger crew than the current size, I think. Privateer galleys usually had a large crew complement, right? Ship marines and all?"
