Astraeus-Lunar IV
« on: October 03, 2015, 07:52:19 pm »

Astraeus-Lunar IV
The most advanced space station ever designed.
It is so technologically advanced that almost every single piece of maintenance is done by robots, without human interference. For the most part. While the robots maintain the space station, the humans take long naps in cryo-stasis, frozen solid in a state of both permanent life and permanent death.
However, there is one little naggle to the whole idea of an entirely robotic maintenance: It occasionally malfunctions. In order to work around this, the station automatically wakes up the astronauts for one day each year to have them perform their own maintenance, mostly on the maintenance robots. This involves repairing damage, de-bugging code, and fighting off the occasional boarding party.

The Astraeus-Lunar IV, or the ALIV, often called "Alive", is slowly heading towards Mars. It's only purpose is to escort a total of six astronauts, three males and three females, towards its destination. Upon reaching the surface, the crew's objective is to set up a matter-transposition-reflexive mainframe, more commonly referred to as a teleporter. This will allow them to bring further human population to the red planet, and to colonize it as a whole. The main reason of this expansion is that Earth has been tapped almost dry: Iron and Nickel have become valued commodities while Copper is practically a thing of the past. A few drops of Oil would spark a world war, and most of the oceans have been refined into fresh water for consumption by a bloated population. The common people think that once humanity arrives on Mars all members of humanity will travel to the planet and colonize it anew, like a New Earth; Only world leaders and the astronauts know that less then 0.001% of the human population will actually be allowed on Mars: This includes the most physically fit, mentally fit, and of course, all the world leaders.

Your job, as the Astronauts, is to obey the commands of your on-ship AI, to obey the commands relayed to you by the world leaders, to reach Mars, and to set up a self-sustaining base on the planet before deploying and activating the teleporter stored on the ship.
You won't be alone out there: Several terrorist groups and a few of the countries which have descended into anarchy have already launched several small shuttles on an intercept course to your craft, and the computer has been set to wake you the moment they set foot on the ship. As this was not foreseen, the ship itself was not equipped to deal with intruders, and you are armed with only minimal weapons: A small handgun was included in every astronaut's locker, but the real weapons will be the systems of the ship itself. Opening bulkheads and airlocks to jettison intruders, deactivating gravity at the right time to send them hurtling into obstacles, and re-working on board systems into traps. Your minds will need to be as prepared as your weapons to survive this.

Good luck.
You are humanity's last hope.

Don't let it down.

((I hope that this game does not die like all the others I have created have. I do indeed hope....))

I'd like to join!

Name: Jasmine Hartfeild
Profession: Guard
Biography: There have been Hartfeilds in every branch of the military for a very, very long time. True to family tradition, Jasmine joined up with the Air Force straight out of high school. As a fighter pilot, she has become quite comfortable with the prospect of having only a pistol and her wits as weapons. As such, she does her best to make sure that her mind is as well maintained as her body.
Physical Condition: Jasmine is what one would call well toned. Her muscles aren't the most visible, but they certainly are there.

Funding rebels because seriously, fuck those guys.
((They're basically the new Mongols.  I gotta say, I have a newfound respect for the Jamaican police force after playing this game.))

Name: Kiran Tolvat
Profession: Engineer and Mechanic.

What's SS13?
Oh, and don't worry about carrying things. Your ship's MOtuS robots are here to shift all your burdens! :)

Name: Carmen Corman

Profession: Actuary

Biography: There are no parts of life that having an actuary along on is not beneficial, goes the line of reasoning that brought Carmen Corman of all people on this space exploration mission. After all, assessing risk is what space is all about, right? And while there may be better actuaries around than Carmen Corman, few happened to have jobs that were not preferable to this extremely odd mission (the mention of 'boarding parties' in particular was a red flag, considering Carmen Corman had not been informed that either aliens or space pirates exist prior to this job offer, with either requiring substantial recalculation of the risks involved).

Physical Condition: a bit bony and gangly, in her early thirties, rather angular in every respect. A bit more sharp-eyed than the average numpty to be sure.

Name: Eric Boreal
Profession: (Cryo-)biologist
Biography: Filled with an inquisitive nature and an interest in all living things, no-one who knew him was surprised when Eric decided to make the study of living organisms his vocation. It was simple chance, however, that he met the right people, went to the right lectures, and ended up settling on Cryobiology as his chosen field, which led to him being here today.
Physical Condition: Fit enough to pass the medical examinations required to be part of the crew, though only just. No existing medical conditions except a pretty serious peanut allergy.

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

Name: John Doe
Profession: Mechanic
Biography: Yet another Doe from a long line of Does. He grew up in the Midwest, on a farm where he raised "cows- cattle. Definitely cattle.". After graduating from "mechanic school" he decided to apply to join the Astraeus-Lunar IV, and was fortunate enough to join the crew. This is all legitimate information.
Physical Condition: A somewhat thin older man, though he's in good shape for his age. Not particularly strong, but good at both sprinting and long distance running.

Oh, and quick question: Is your character a male or female?

So far we have 2 males, 2 females, and 1 unspecified.

Kiran is male. Had assumed the name was gender specific enough.

We just need a single more player, one more female! It can be any profession at this point.

....
....
The first sensation that returns is hearing. You hear ice cracking and snapping as it melts.
Then, the rest of your senses slowly return. You're in a large metal tube. As you come to, a few monitors directly in front of you turn on. A few begin monitoring someone's vitals; yours, you suppose. However, a larger screen lights up with a few options:
[Open Tube]
[Situation Report]
[Cargo Contents]
[Objectives]
At the bottom, a small microphone symbol awaits, so you can only assume it is controlled by voice command.

Check Situation Report and Objectives first. Then check Cargo Contents. Do not open the tube immediately.

+1
Also, find a way to communicate with the other crew mates and check if they're ok.
