Name: Rowan Dusek
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Description: Rowan is built like a lineman. He is only 5’7” but is quite broad and muscular for his age, with a dark tan that suggests many hours spent out in the hot sun. He has dirty-blonde hair, worn short and scruffy, as well as a well-groomed mustache. His eyes are blue and his face is square-shaped, which helps contribute to the impression of him being sturdy and dependable. Generally he wears plain shirts and blue jeans, with a small pack on his back to carry what meagre possessions he has. Whenever he can get away with it he wears a leather scabbard at his side, to hold his family’s ancestral sword.
Backstory: The history of the Dusek family is a long and proud one. Their ancestral lands are in the heart of Bohemia, which is today the Czech Republic. The family was richly rewarded for its loyalty and given vast fiefs. Powerful bishops and great crusaders came from the family for many centuries. Then the Reformation occurred and the Duseks converted to Protestantism, which was to be their downfall. During the Thirty-Years War a Bohemian uprising was defeated by the Emperor, who stripped many titles from the Protestant nobles to give to his loyal followers. Bereft of its source of wealth the Dusek family struggled on for many years, until they ended up as merely another clan of peasant farmers.
After several centuries and emigration to the New World, Rowan Dusek was born to a couple of well-off factory-workers in the northeast United States. Ever since he was a child he was plagued by strange dreams and visions, telling him to head across the sea. For years he struggled with these dreams until finally he snapped. Sneaking onto a vessel destined for France, somehow the eleven year-old boy crossed many borders and ended up into Soviet-controlled Czechoslovakia, his dreams and visions becoming stronger the further he went. There he rediscovered the old ruins that was the Dusek family’s seat and descended into the deep cellars. There he discovered something wondrous and terrible. Convergence, the ancient sword of his ancestors.
The Dusek family had a dark past which they had kept well-hidden. In 1211 they were responsible for the defeat of Archmage Thakor, a power-hungry wizard who had forged a terrible blade in his quest to conquer the world. In his dying breath, Thakor cursed the family to serve and wield the blade which he had forged, anchoring their souls to the blade so that they would be torn apart should it be destroyed. With no way of breaking the curse, the family designated their heirs to be the keeper of this sword, Convergence, so that it would not be lost and the family with it. Using this blade the keepers were able to forge a mighty dynasty, until it was eventually lost due to their foolishness. Trapped in limbo, the souls of the family vainly tried to contact their descendents to pick up the blade and use it to return the dynasty to its former luster. For centuries they laboured in vain, until finally someone was born who was receptive to their whispering. That person was Rowan.
Since recovering the family blade and becoming the keeper of Convergence, Rowan has wandered the earth. He can hear the whisperings of his ancestors clearly now after touching the blade and they have given him all of the guidance and training that they have accumulated, so that he can be the true heir to the Dusek line. In the meantime he has sustained himself with odd jobs, petty theft and the like. After discovering his family’s past and being constantly reminded of it by his ancestors, he has no desire to return to his parents and the comfortable life he once hand. Mostly because he would get no rest if he ever let his family down.
Abilities: Rowan can draw upon the knowledge and experiences of his ancestors to guide him when needed. Given that most of his ancestors were great warriors and simple farmers, this knowledge isn’t useful when one wants to cheat on calculus tests or the like. However it is invaluable in combat as it informs Rowan on how to act with great skill and efficiency. Additionally, given the strong chain of bishops, crusaders and magic running through the family, Rowan can imbue weapons that he wields with divine energy. This energy usually takes the form of cleansing fire to destroy the enemies of the Dusek family.
Stats: (35/35)
Health: 8
Stamina: 7
Strength: 7
Skill: 10
Speed: 3
Willpower: 2
Perks:
Ancestral Recall: Having several accumulated centuries worth of combat experience at his disposal means Rowan knows all of the moves and maneuvers that one can perform in combat, as well as the counters and parries to use against them. Combined with hours of rigorous practice, he has become a world-class swordmaster that could best almost anybody with the blade.
Ancestral Protection: Rowan’s ancestors are always watching over him, for better or for worse. As such they’ll instantly alert him about any dangers around him, making it impossible for someone to sneak up or surprise him regardless of the circumstances. Obviously this protection can be fooled by magic or sufficiently sophisticated disguise.
Ancestral Keeper: Rowan is intimately connected with the blade Convergence due to the curse placed on his family. He always knows where Convergence is at all time, which is critical should it ever be separated from him.
Inventory:
Ghostly Armour: Rowan is protected by his ancestors due to him being the last heir of the Dusek family. He is constantly surrounded by a spiritual aura that offers protection, though it is only visible if you can sense magic. Obviously this ghostly armour does not protect well against physical weapons, but against magic attacks it is quite strong.
Camping Equipment: Everything you need to live out in the wilderness while carrying out a geas forced upon you by your ancestors.
Leather Scabbard: Convergence has to live somewhere, after all.
Have a character. How does it look, Akroma? Not too terrible, I hope.
