Name: Lao Shan
Age: Unknown. His teacher's records indicate he is somewhere between 19 and 21 years of age, but no public records of him exist.
Gender Man
Sex: Man
Personality: The easiest way to describe Lao Shan is an oddity. Usually, he is very calm, and only speaks as much as he feels is necessary. Even when defending his opinion on something or engaging in an argument, he sounds much like someone commenting on how 'the weather is nice'.
This calmness hides an amount of self-confidence that could be almost considered a 'bloated ego'. Lao Shan believes himself capable of any single task he sets his mind too, regardless of past experience, or, more often, lack of it. Calling it a bloated ego is not accurate, however. While he believes himself capable of completely absurd feats, he does not believe himself to be above other sentient beings. He is of the belief that, with enough effort, any living being can accomplish anything. A hopelessly optimistic belief, perhaps, but one he holds himself to all the same. This is what has led to his tendency towards 'heroism'. Since all life has potential to become something more in his eyes, all life must be protected.
Aside from this, Lao Shan has an almost ridiculous obsession with the martial arts. Indeed, a conversation about them is one of the few occasions where he will ramble and, however temporarily, break his calm composure. A battle with a fellow martial artist is one of the few things that truly gets his blood heated. It's not just martial arts that interest him, however. Many things, sometimes seemingly at random, can catch his interest, and they too will get him rambling and asking questions at a rapid pace.
Appearance: Lao Shan is, at 6'9", an incredibly tall male. He has tanned skin, dark brown eyes, thin slanted eyebrows and long, shaggy black hair that stretches halfway down to his waist. As a rule, he prefers the
clothes left to him by his master. It's very rare to see him wearing anything else, in fact.
Beyond that, he's fairly muscular, with calloused hands and soles that look more akin to leather than actual skin. He has a scar running horizontally along his nose, and another running down his left arm.
His face is almost perpetually set into a calm expression, very rarely changing to anything else. A smile may show every now and then while interacting with others, but thats generally about it.
Backstory: Lao Shan's earliest memory is of being woken up by his teacher, smiling up at him and being smiled at right back. This, he sometimes muses, was probably one of the things that truly cemented his loyalty to his teacher. This, along with so many more memories of spending time with his teacher, be it for learning or to simply have fun... Throughout Lao's childhood, the man was practically a grandfather to him, the kind that hopelessly spoiled his grandchildren, told stories and simply spent as much time with them as possible. These are, frankly, Lao's fondest memories of anyone, period, and contributed quite heavily to the high opinion he holds of his own teacher.
A few years passed. While Lao already had some martial arts training, his teacher decided to kick things up a notch. In order to facilitate this, he, along with Lao, began their long journey up the mountains nearby in order to continue his training. A month of training and hiking passed before they reached the mountaintop, where his teacher's greatest treasure, his library, resided. A great trove of knowledge of all kinds, though primarily focused on the martial arts, it was what Lao's teacher used to pass on so many techniques to him. The fact that Lao could find out about so many different styles, so many different techniques, in his own time meant that, coupled with his own natural aptitude, he learned at an incredibly accelerated pace.
Years passed, and Lao continued his learning. And then his teacher died. Lao wasn't quite sure how, or why, and he didn't find out for several weeks, the first two of which were dedicated to mourning. Later, while looking around his teacher's library, he found a number of notes his teacher wrote, explaining what exactly happened to him(a fatal disease of some sort) and why he didn't tell his student earlier, along with the keys to access all parts of his library.
He continued his training for many more years atop that mountain, in accordance with his master's wishes. Eventually, however, he learned all that he believed he could, he descended from the mountain, making sure to lock the library before he left. He recorded the mountain's location using one of his many techniques, and started travelling. When his belief system led to conflict with various villains and petty criminals, he came to Avalon Academy's notice, and enrolled soon after.

--At the start of each turn, Lao gains 1 additional point in Athletics, Tactics, Alertness and Reflex. This bonus resets to 0 when the fight ends.
Abilities: [Ability points= 18]
Innate Map(Passive): One of Lao's many techniques is an internal map of all places he has been to, stored within the memories of the Solumbra. This grants him a level of spatial awareness that few others can match, as well as the instinctive knowledge of his precise location. Grants complete immunity to vision obscuring effects(debuffs that work through mist, darkness, fog, dust etc.).
Absolute Stop(Active): Lao uses a combination of a dozen different blocks from a dozen different styles to stop a hostile action dead in its tracks. Negates a single hostile action, regardless of immunities. 2 turn cooldown.
Single Strike(Active): Lao lashes out with a single strike. Deals 3d10 damage, no additional effects. No cooldown. (Focus)
Dual Strike(Active): Lao lashes out with two consecutive hits. Deals 3d10 damage, hits twice. 1 turn cooldown. (Focus)
Triple Strike(Active): Lao lashes out with three consecutive hits. Deals 3d10 damage, hits three times. 2 turn cooldown. (Focus)
Excellent Martial Artist(Passive): Lao is really, really good at martial arts. +5 to all checks related to martial arts in some manner.
Paralysing Strike(Active): Hitting the points on a living beings body to stop them in their tracks is something Lao is more than capable of. (Manipulation)% chance that this attack stuns an opponent for the next 2 turns, deals 2d15 damage. 3 turn cooldown. (Manipulation)
Weakening Strike(Active): An attack not meant to cause raw damage, but instead weaken the opponent greatly. Lowers the Opponent's power by (Focus/5)(6) for 3 turns. Deals 1d30 damage. 4 turn cooldown. (Focus)
Healing Strike(Active): Much like Weakening Strike, this isn't meant for raw damage. Unlike it, this particular technique can't even deal damage. It exists solely for the purpose of helping people. The heal is affected by the Power multiplier. Heals 5d6 HP. 1-turn cooldown. (Focus)
Detox Circulation(Active): Some things can't be solved with violence, unfortunately, and removing negative ailments from people is one of them. Lao circulates some Solumbra energy through a person, removing one negative ailment from them. Can crit. If it does, remove all negative ailments instead. 2-turn cooldown.
Solumbra Blast(Active): Lao sends out a blast of concentrated Solumbra energy to wound an opponent. Ranged attack, deals 3d10 damage, half of damage is dealt again and bypasses all defenses. 1-turn cooldown. (Manipulation)
Solumbra Rain(Active): Lao scatters out several blasts of Solumbra in an effort to hit as many opponents as possible. Deals 3d10 damage to all enemies, 3-turn cooldown. (Focus)
Solumbra's Blade(Active): A technique that allows Lao to boost his own physical capabilities further beyond. Doubles Power for 3 turns, after which it is halved for 3 turns and Lao takes a flat (Focus) amount of damage that cannot be resisted or negated.
Solumbra's Champion(Passive): Lao is one of the few, if not the only, users of Solumbra currently alive. This means that his very nature, and by consequence, all of his attacks are infused, however slightly, with light. All attacks deal an additional 5% of their damage as unresisted light-element damage.
High-Grade Earplugs(Passive): Not truly a martial arts technique, this is nonetheless one of Lao's more useful utility abilities. The name is misleading, since they are not truly earplugs, merely a method of bracing oneself against noise. Grants an immunity to noise-based debuffs.
Sol's Strike(Active): Lao infuses his attack with one half of Solumbra's power, the Sun. Deals 3d10 damage, attack is counted as Fire, deals doubled damage against enemies weak to fire. 1-turn cooldown. (Manipulation)
Umbra's Strike(Active): Lao infuses his attack with the other half of Solumbra's power, the Darkness. Deals 3d10 damage, attack is counted as Dark, deals doubled damage against enemies weak to dark. 1-turn cooldown. (Manipulation)
Light Strike(Active): Lao infuses his attack with the nature, rather than a part, of Solumbra, Light. Deals 3d10 damage, attack is counted as Light, deals doubled damage against enemies weak to light. 1-turn cooldown. (Manipulation)
Sunlight Regeneration(Passive): While Lao already regenerates naturally, light of all kinds gives it that little boost it needs to become even better. While in well-lit areas or out in direct sunlight, Lao regenerates an additional flat 10HP.
Rejection(Active): In terms of pure power, this is Lao's strongest technique. Simply put, he gathers an incredible amount of Solumbra energy within his fist, before releasing it to multiply the strength of the strike tenfold. Deals 3d10 damage x 10. Cannot be blocked, dodged, countered or negated, regardless of perks or actions that state otherwise. Counts as a Light-, Dark- and Fire-based attack for elemental weaknesses/resistances. 5 turns must pass before this attack can be used, and the strength of such an attack is not without consequences. As such, this attack deals 20% of its damage (before additional multipliers like Power, Critical Hits etc.) back to its user. 6 turn cooldown.
Equipment/Items: Wushu Clothing: The clothes Lao usually wears. Probably only exist for fluff.
