"seems like you got a tight knit community. Let me see what I can do."
enter and scan the area for threats. Knife out, shield ready.

Go downstairs (behind Alyssa and Dustan) with pickaxe ready.

Intruiging.  Any further information from the owners/operators?  Pause, with casually raised eyebrow if I can manage it, to see if anything's forthcoming.

Then examine the room, on the way to the stairs, just to get the feel of this workshop area. Check that there are no surprises. Then peer down the stairwell, warhammer at hand.

Assuming they aren't coming over anyway (ninjaed, insofar as DH  - and now Ziizo too), and nothing else happens, beckon over my compatriots to see what, if anything, I can see.

(Post-ninjas: pretty much as above. Act as backup if necessary, stand at top as point if not.)

Overseer is not involved in this business. He's off doing odd jobs and scouting for possible disciples.

(That was fast.  What, is Thursday the International Check DF Forums Day?)

Overseer (FallacyofUrist): got it.  There may be something amusing about what happens with you next.  If necessary, I will send you a private message with more information; if not, we'll just check back with you when it's time to fast-forward through the rest of the day.

Everyone: I'm going to allow Ragnarok (PaPaj)'s action to mean your wheelbarrows will all be waiting outside the alchemy workplace.  Perhaps Durenadal (HugeNerdAndProudOfIt) helps to move the rest of them.  However, at this point, I will be retiring Durenadal due to a confluence of lack-of-player and a convenient place for him to vanish.  I'll put something to demonstrate this in the "lost players" section later.

And since I don't have the time to update so quickly, I'll leave you to figure out what you may have overlooked or otherwise failed to give adequate scrutiny in the scene.

Previous -- Next

Purpose having united the people, Alyssa and Dustan (the melee-armed) head toward the stairs, with John carefully in the back.  Behind them, Dwain stands with one eyebrow raised, watching the alchemists as they watch the adventurers.

"Wow." says Tikhomir.  "No one even--"

Then he sees Dwain watching and coughs.  Militsa cuts in.  "This is a relief!  We've lost so much money already; the things are eating our healthstone, the green glass is all knocked on the ground . . . "

She goes like this for awhile.

Dwain is a little distracted by noises coming from outside.  Off to the east is an oddity in this town; active mining of some kind, though you can't tell what.  When you're paying attention again, Militsa is wrapping up.

" . . . Elena's a prospector, so she's trying to make money off of new exiles, and she's having a rough patch too.  Really, you folks are helping out a lot."

At about this time, Ragnarok shows up, and together he and Dwain make their way into the building.  The top floor of the alchemists' building has a crafting setup and several organized piles of raw materials including minerals and leathers.  By comparison the bottom floor is barely recognizable.  Your lanterns reveal the scene:

Presumably there were two big workspaces in the middle of the room, but they've been pulled right apart.  There are heaps of shattered glass all over the floor along with toppled heaps of glowstone and the like.  And the smell!  It smells bad, all the alchemical substances seeping into the air.  But even so, there is an odor of vanilla.

Alyssa, in the lead, can see dried shiny trails heading into the hole in the far wall.  It's a good guess that the ant lemmings themselves are laying these trails; but there is no movement within sight down into the dark.  For now . . .

"There's nothing here right now, but they might be back soon."

Wait for the ant lemmings to show up.

use splitterwand

Is that "use splitter wand if needed," or do you just want to blast the rock open no matter how cramped/accessible it looks?

Funny, but the two players with the highest kill count have a habit of that.

(Also the two longest-surviving players, which is both amusing and a potential confounding factor.  But honestly, you two have been racking up kills faster than any of the other players shucked along the way.)

What can I say? A doctor has to know how a limb comes off in order to put it back on right....
