Chapter 0 - Overture

Yuki, Noriko, and Faith
The three of you are in a maid cafe, a pretty damn classy one at that, well, as classy as a cafe where the waitresses are dressed like maids and pretend to be anime characters can be at least. Noriko, Yuki, you're working. Faith, you're just visiting. It's a busy day as always, location's good and the entertainment district's always bustling, especially at this hour with school out for the day.

It's, not too bad. Awkward maybe, embarrassing probably, but it pays well enough and hey the interior design ain't half bad. It's pretty comfy actually. Noriko's on the clock, that means she's in-character right now. Yuki? She never got off the clock.

((Still going to need a name for the cafe :P))

Minato, Shef, and Yoake
It is 4pm on a Tuesday. Lots of people in the entertainment district. It'd be pretty nice on most days. Today isn't most days. You guys are on stakeout duty basically. Winter's divined that there should be some awakenings in this part of the district soon, and a freshly awakened Godslayer with no Artifical Regalia and no idea what the fuck is happening, is a tempting target. The good news is that it's the entertainment district, you can have all your gear out and so long as it doesn't look like an actual gun or anything, no one will bat an eye. The bad news is, there could be mononoke masquerading as cosplayers. That person in the left shark suit? Outside that arcade? For all you know, they could be trying to take a bite out of your squishy parts in five minute's time.

So, you three are on the look out for anyone collapsing and tripping serious balls. You'll be extracting them and taking them to the weapons cache, get them armed, give everything else second thoughts about trying to nom on them. So, right now, where are you and what are you doing?

((You three don't have to be in the same place.))

Minato sits in the maid cafe, carefully sipping a cup of tea and dusting his carefully tailored suit. His black blazer is buttoned up, hiding the Gaia Driver beneath. As much as he'd liked not to wear it, the Godslayers insisted he wore it at all times, lest a Mononoke or an Aramitama attacked. Not that he minded; after all, there was little difference between a Mononoke and a schoolyard bully for him, save that the Mononoke usually bit back harder and had magical things of death to hit him with.

So, not much to his chagrin, his visit here was for business.

He takes a look at the waitress closest to him; she was pretty cute, bright blue eyes, silky black hair and all. The maid outfit helped, of course; he had a thing, so to speak, for maids. But then again, he had a thing for all women. Granted, they didn't have a thing for him back, but such was life.

His eye drifts over to Yuki and Noriko, the two of them in maid outfits. Yuki, he thought, was pretty cute. Hyper, bouncing off walls like a squirrel on a sugar high with a death wish, but cute enough. He liked her, anyway; she seemed to emit an aura of happiness. Noriko was also pretty cute, though he was a little worried that people might pick on her for being 'weird'.  Then there was that third girl he'd picked up on; blonde, blue-eyed, busty and big. Definitely American; Minato saw a lot more of them around here now, which made sense. Sendo City was the Silicon Valley of Japan, after all, and that meant more foreigners. She looked familiar too, but he couldn't quite place where or how.

Minato takes another sip. The Awakened were around here somewhere, and the Aramitama would come just as quick. He was here for three reasons.

One, to escort the Awakened to safety. Two, to get his friends out of the way; Aramitama could cause serious collateral damage and Minato wasn't about to leave people he knew in the way. Three, for the cute girls; why else would he come to the maid cafe? Not that the food was bad at all.

In Minato's phone is a text message. It's from Winter. Do you always mix business with pleasure?

Just remember to look at someone other than a maid every so often.

They're all maids, Winter. I can't be blamed if they catch my eye and do something suspicious.

Yuki was in as... normal a mood as it got with her. She was on the clock, ostensibly, but what the girls did on the clock was largely unregulated; as long as they served the "masters" and "young misses" (read: Customers) and kept in-character as a maid, they had free reign. Yuki... didn't keep in character at all. Of course nobody would likely notice this since she was such a character already.

Today her hyper-ness was more overstated than usual, because she had a particular "young miss" in mind, and was trying to spend as much time over there as she could while working. She noticed Minato of course, and waved enthusiastically (highly unprofessional for a maid cafe but completely "in-character" for her). She'd have a chat with him later but most customers, unless they came in a group, had to sit alone (not counting the waitress-maid that goes to that table), and she was more interested in the american girl right now.

She was almost running to the girl (who looked very uncomfortable. Culture shock?) to the point it was impressive she didn't drop the tray of coffee, tea, and various snack foods she'd bought (it was her monthly "luxury" expense! And she got a discount anyway because she worked there). She carefully placed the tray down, and sat across from the girl, smiling all the while. "Heyyyy! You made it! Sorry to make you see me during work, but Sunday's got a bunch of homework this week and I think I'd be reaaaallly distracted by hanging out with you. It's a nice place, isn't it? Kinda weird I know but they pay pretty good and give you a free cute outfit!" she says. She speaks with something of a motor-mouth, one thought beginning almost before the last has ended, and yet somehow not tripping over her words.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Minato texts back quickly.
And I'm to understand you and Enn's mating calls on missions are professional?

He waves back at Yuki with a smile. She really did look cute.

Then his eyes follow her as she sits next to the American. Now things got interesting; so Yuki knew her somehow?

Perhaps she wasn't so distant after all.

I'd like my mission control not to be all over each other when I'm attempting to avoid being eaten by demons.

From his position, Shef had a decently clear view of the front of the maid cafe. He was sitting on a bench, seemingly engrossed in a book, and had been so for nearly an hour before Minato had arrived. His book was one which he had read previously, so, while he enjoyed it sufficiently to convince an observer that he was entirely absorbed in the book, he was able to pay sufficient attention to his surroundings. Even so, it was a crowd; and he hated them like all sane people do.

Every so often, Shef would glance up into some of the surrounding shops, attempting to hide his glances into the maid cafe by taking an innocuous panorama of his surroundings. He may have been paranoid; after all, people wouldn't be surprised to see a decently young man's eyes always being drawn back to the cafe. However, he took caution all the same, and Minato needed someone watching his back. He could be courageous, and honorable, but especially when surrounded by so many girls, well, Shef doubted he had much capacity for prudence.

At almost precisely four o'clock--Shef had gained that useful ability to measure time in his head with uncanny precision--he consulted the watch on his right wrist. Two minutes off. Not up to my usual. Must be the crowd...
He pulled his phone out of his pocket, and sent off a quick text.
To Yoake, he wrote:
Quote
Checking in. What's your current location? Anything suspicious?
He sent nothing more for now; Minato already seemed somewhat distracted, and if Enn or Winter had any more information, they'd initiate contact.
"Good afternoon," he murmured as a couple relaxed onto the bench beside him.

Within that world, she was God. But here, outside of it, her name was Yoake o-Shiri. That was unimportant. She was a Godslayer. That too was unimportant. But what was important, was that she had a motherfucking boat.
And by God, was she going to use it.
