Sooooo…right now we have almost-good Gauntlets that really should be adapted for general spell-focusing, because that will be pretty awesome. We also have a cloak, which needs to be adapted into a tactical trenchcoat. Styled to go with the gloves, of course :P

Right now, we probably ought to try fixing the cloak as NUKE has suggested, though perhaps it would be more beneficial to fix the sight-to-picture spell as proposed (and sadly skipped) last revision phase. That has immediate and permanent use, if it works properly.

I'm thinking for a design next turn we ought to make a nice super flamethrower spell, using energy partially provided by burning something and using gauntlets or some other means to focus it. Alternatively, applying some magic to a rifle would allow us to deploy some insanely effective snipers if done right, which would instantly make the army appreciate us as a special-purposes unit, which is what we want to be.

For later, after we do the translucent design or something equivalent.
Design (Evocation): Flamethrow

The Flamethrow spell is an evolution of the snap lighter evocation. The flame is adjusted to appear slightly ahead of the palm (best used with an stretched-out hand, palm towards enemy). Minimum mana intake is suitably scaled up (though as it's an evocation, the caster can scale it up as necessary) to produce a notable flame.
Finally, we apply a forwards force to the flame (we hope this can get to a substantial range as the flame shouldn't need much pushing to go the distance).

Lethality isn't expected to be high, as the flame likely won't exactly stick to people. But it should still make a highly effective combat tool and method of deterrence due to its ease of casting and availability.

Fulcrum Armor Crystal-Linked Version

By linking the Fulcrum Armor to a gem, the leftover energy instead is diverted to that crystal. It will take the energy applied to the threads, leaving the cloak intact.. It also allows us to turn it off by cutting the flow between the cloak and gem, since that will leave the cloak's circuit incomplete, until such time as the gem is connected again to it by the user.

We can place the gemstone in an enclosed metal, and use it as the clasp. Whenever any leftover force from Fulcrum Armor's usual function affects the cloak, it is redirected at the gem instead. If the gem breaks, the force will still be directed there at the gem and it's shards.

This will mean that as more of the gem turns to dust, more force will effect the cloak, but most of it will go into the remaining pieces of the gem. At some point, the cloak threads will likely disintegrate, as it already does. But if the cloak is intact, we simply need to replace the Gem/Clap, making it fairly cheap to maintain. We can even carry spare gem/clasps into battle, to restore it.

The whole point of the Fulcrum Armour is that the force is redirected, not absorbed. Hence the name. If it absorbed force, it'd just be called "armour". I mean, your gem isn't going to stand up to a lot of bullets before breaking.

Anyway, for our emblem, I thought maybe an eye that's on fire?
I dunno about our motto.

Normally, the force is redirected to the rest of the coat, which is very, destructive to the threads. By redirecting it to the gem entirely, it will break against it instead. And then it will break against the shards of the gem, and the next collection of shards, and so on, until it's dust. At which point, it won't actually work anymore, and just end up being unable to handle that force, so the cloak will end up finally taking the blow, and breaking apart.

hmm... editing that bit in.


Also, redirecting force to the rest of the cloak, does still mean that the cloak needs to absorb/weather the force. The Gem/Clasp acts as a force sink, so the cloak won't break under the strain.

The force is redirected into the air (on the opposite side from the impact) not the rest of the coat. Fulcrum, as in, the part of a lever system that doesn't move- force 'passes through' it without affecting it. In principle. Obviously in practice, the force has some impact on the coat, hence my suggestion of adding steel wires to help channel the force, not to absorb it.

That in itself runs into natural limits. there is only so much air to act as that channel. And any force which passes through an object affects it. Thread alone is not the best for that.

The use of the gem to act to absorb what force does affect the cloak offers an infinite{in principle, if not practice} well, which will prevent the cloak from breaking apart by absormbing what force does affect the cloak threads.

 I didn't quite understand that intention of using the air though, so I'll need another edit. If not much of one.


Also to the flamethrower evocation, I got gloves which can do much the same, ever watched Fullmetal's Flame Alchemist?


edited in the necessary change to my proposal, so the gem only acts after the effect of the Fulcrum Armor, keeping the cloak from breaking apart from the energy involved.

Also serves to render the need for steel threads to channel it in your proposal mute, for fairly cheap-ish costs. The Gem serves to prevent the cloak from taking the damage, allowing it to do it's job..

The Lion of Saint Mark is good for an emblem, but the old Venetian flag has two faults. First of all, it's republican. We're a monarchy, so the King wouldn't let that slide. Second, the flag is just bad. It's entirely unmemorable, and by that I mean that while it is visually distinctive, nobody remembers exactly what is on it. It's overly detailed, and simply breaks every rule of flag design. Can you draw the Lion of Saint Mark form memory? No. No you can't.

Simpler flags are better, especially ones that don't devolve into a blur of shapeless color at range.

I'm not saying we recreate the flag of Venice. I'm saying we should take elements from it. Yes, typical flags are simple and easy to remember, but they're also boring.
We've been asked to create a flag that is "Noble" and "Militaristic". Not "Modern". Indeed, I believe the King (long may he reign) is the sort of person who likes things that harken back to the past.
I think our flag should have features representing the military, the king, and Venice.

Mine does, though. The golden cross, the crux of the kingdom, is Venice. The two red chevrons -- reminiscent of rank indicators -- are the miltary that has shed blood for its bond to venice, and the white stripes are a good band represent the noble and pure line of the king, which gathers around and protects the city of Venice, as the military stands guard.
