Spoiler (click to show/hide)

OOC : I have a story arc I would like to follow. But it probably involves me not finishing the year all through Obsidian into Granite.
Would that be okay if I upload a save that is only like 6 months in ? Maybe less ?

I'm cool with that. Nogood is after you, so if they're up to play they can either do a 6 month shorty or play for a year and end it wherever a year lands.

I'd also be fine to jump in and finish out the year if we want to pass it on at Spring.

Yeah ! I'm on an updating spree !

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

OOC :
- I hope these are readable. It can be hard to get all that's happening in these tiny cells. And getting the cells to be read logically, with all the different sizes can be tricky. I hope it's OK.
- Morale in the fortress is quite low. It was "bad" when I started. But building this tower outside- with corpses and evil rain - probably made it "VERY bad".
- Superdorf berzerked, Auze, and another dwarf slept into depression, many tanthrums, and "scared" messages as well. I was originally planning on not caring. But this could kill the fort if I don't get cautious. Hence a "revolution" against the Necro happening eventually.
- KingZultan, I roleplayed a little bit for you here, you were one of the outdoors workers, and you seem to have escaped the Necromancer's influence.

My turn is complete. I don't feel like making another comic, so regular update style this time !

So, KingZultan, newly renamed "Necromancers hunter", was on an important mission

Remember this door ?

Our dwarf had to link it to a trigger, and pull the lever.
This would seal Spriggans away forever.
Into this hermetic Tower he would rot. And the dwarves could at last thrive.

The plan was simple... But time was running out.

You see, the red eyes were ready to move their master in.
And there was many of them.

The Tower was complete. Spriggans the Sparkly's cage was put in its new room.

This was the time. King Zultan went for the door !

But an army of red eyes still stood in his path !

It was getting bad ! One of the minions started a fist fight !

Things went chaotic ! Dwarves attacked one another randomly !
A messy fight occured in the tiny halls !

KingZultan managed to crawl out of this mess unscathed...
Eventually, reaching the target.

One more pull...

The deal was done !

The cages opened. Spriggans walked out of its cage.
Believing he had achieved freedom.

Only to find himself locked inside.

Evil had been sealed away ! Hopefully forever !
Dwarves regained their sences.

SmallHands endures...

OOC :
- Time is late 5th month. So the next player has a nice year and a half.
- He should probably do something about morale. Depressions everywhere, redondant tantrums, and sadness are usual things now in SmallHands.
- IIRC, 4 or 5 dwarves are patheticaly unhappy. Should focus on them.
- I have not used at all the magma pump, but I believe something is broken. There is water in the magma shaft...
- I have made a res. chamber on top of the Tower

Spriggans is locked away, but at what cost?
This could be the undoing of the fort; even in my turn I don’t think it got this bad; yes everyone was dead but at least that meant that no one was unhappy.

I think the fort can survive.
Maybe we need to put a handful of dwarves on vacation. But many of the older founders (Nogood, Salmeuk, especially) are fine, and many are happy, though feverish.

Yes, it was maybe a bit optimistic to have the dwarves build an evil-rain outside Tower. (But hey ! I did build the Tower rooftops first, so the inner layers were at least be protected from the nasty rain ! It could have been worst).
Dwarves' morale took a hit, sure. But hey ! Look at all the surface wood we have now ! ;D

Water in the magma shaft is "normal" in that there is a leak in the accessway that is unsealable vs the aquifer. I redirected that off the map, but some got into the magma path before I got to it, should evaporate. Might also consider plugging that part of the accessway to reduce lag

Doesn't change the fact that the reactor couldn't start at the end of my turn due to lack of water. Needs a bunch at once, and I underestimated just how slow the aquifer is...

It’s probably worth noting that this fortress and its population is essentially irreplaceable. No pressure.

===+ Journal of the Undying Overseer – Summer 161 +===

9th Galena

NECROMANCERS!

Even in cages, the fiends harry us still! If not for KingZultan, we might be completely in their grasp. Even with his quick action, Smallhands stands on the brink of disaster, despite its veneer of prosperity.

Since my miraculous resurrection, I had hoped to enjoy retirement, but it seems Weevilmessiah demands my servitude once again.

The fortress is in a bad way. Maybe not as close to total annihilation as it was at the beginning of my first term, but there are new problems, many and manifold. I’m a military leader, good at handling stressful situations and paving a path forward. But here there isn’t a clear goal. The problems that plague us now are the result of mismanagement, exploitation and decay. If I’m going to even begin to untangle them, I need to be an administrator, a politician, a therapist. I can only try my best.

First, let’s look around and take tally of the most pressing issues.

Disease

Nearly the entire fortress has contracted the vile swamp fever, courtesy of our necromancer’s blind ambition. Not only that, but many dwarves have untreated wounds from the resulting riots, most infected. We desperately need soap and some dedicated medics. Some dwarves have even developed horrible sores over their whole body. Is this a new symptom of long-term vile goo exposure?

Despair

While most of our citizens put on a strong face, the cracks are beginning to show. Moldath’s death was shocking, and he still hasn’t been replaced as militia commander. I fear he will soon be followed if the mood continues to worsen

Overpopulation

Smallhands was never meant to accommodate so many. Overpopulation exacerbates many of the other problems we face. Fortunately, we now administrate several hillocks which may provide a home to some of our more dissatisfied citizens. The swarms of animals are another matter. I don’t know whose idea it was to breed turkeys but they’re now completely unmanageable.

The necromancers are another matter. Two of them are locked in their tower, behind a flimsy wooden door and some windows at ground level. It’s an intolerable weakness in our defenses but it should keep them for now. The third is still in a cage in our animal stockpile. With the manipulative power the one called “Spriggans” has demonstrated, I can’t allow him to stay there. Unfortunately, some well-meaning former overseer has renovated our “prisons” into a set of rooms for KingZultan. They can still be converted to their original purpose, albeit with weaker security. Hopefully he doesn’t mind a relocation.

And finally, the worst problem we are facing: my favourite axe is being used to chop firewood! Imic! Return Ravenwind to me! It’s been too long since I’ve held a proper weapon!
