It'd be funny, and might not go badly because it's not an overtly hostile action, but it's probably best to stick to maintain a humanoid persona, and the persona we're using here is that of some guy appearing conciliatory and cooperative.

start laughing.  if they reveal themselves and ask why, offer no explanation

-1 on the laughing. Sudden noise and movement is a good way to get ourselves killed, and we are outnumbered. Whether the numbers would make a difference in combat is meaningless, these humans believe they have the upper hand, and it is in out best interest to allow them to continue believing that for now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is an amusing situation, though. Basil doesn't laugh, however, contenting instead with a simple, placid grin.

He comes to a stop in the street and raises his hands into the air, an old memory, one of those that isn't his, supplying this universal sign of surrender. The humans draw closer to him and Twitchy. They are spread evenly between collapsing roofs and the dark depths of the factory halls. All of them are concealed, but Basil can sense the molecules within their bodies, the plastics in their firearms, and other things that stick out within the concrete and ivy. He doesn't turn to look at them, keeping his gaze fixed forward, down the road.

A projectile hisses through the air and digs a crater into the tarmac at Basil's feet. The metal - iron alloy is close to molten with the heat of impact.

Basil doesn't flinch, his hands still held high. There's a murmur of conversation between the humans. Another shot ricochets off the asphalt.

"Who trespasses in Iridium territory?" A voice calls from the roof when Basil doesn't react to the second shot. It is young, feminine, full of authority...and confused concern.

I say we tell them that them we were on the ship that went by and that we were forced to land here because of damage to our ship and we were looking for supplies.

They are trying to intimidate us, and we must at least allow them to believe that they can contain us if combat were to break out. Do not reveal your powers, and keep Twitchy restrained. Avoiding a dangerous incident where Twitchy eats somebody is paramount. We don't want them to be afraid of us, we want them to trust us.

Do not harm them.

Annoyance. Hunger. Agitation. Radiate out from Twitchy. It expresses only the simplest, the sharpest of emotions. No nuance. It bristles against Basil's commands. But it settles down, laying down on the asphalt and fixing its baleful, red-eyed glare on the figures above. Hunt. When?

[|]
Something that was plucking at the edge of Basil’s mind turns into a sudden realization. It diverts his attention from the guns held on him-- Twitchy, who's data and consciousness was ripped from a human form twisted with Plague, is expressing itself with a feral clarity. Its emotions are projected without hesitation, lacking the Plague syntax of cold calculation and hunger it once used. Diverting his attention from the guns trained on him. Basil probes Twitchy's structure data, and finds that it has adapted to the Barker Form by creating an amygdala using the data Basil copied over to it.

Purpose of data structure? Basil queries, indicating the amygdala code.

Expression. Purpose. Comes the raw data reply. Expression. Expression. Expression.

It twitches, a misfiring of nerves from its Synthesized brain structures.

Basil queries the data structures but finds no reason for the creature to do as its namesake suggests.

"Hey! [Asshole]! We're going to shoot you!" The voice calls down. "You've been staring at your [dog] for like five minutes now. Its fuckin' weirding us out."

"Apologies. I was a passenger aboard the vessel that flew overhead earlier this month." Basil explains, turning towards the voice. There's an intake of breath, another whispered conversation. When another shot doesn't seem forthcoming, he continues, "I was seeking aid for me and my crew."

There's silence. A lanky and tan woman slides down a pile of gravel, approaching Basil. She stumbles, and the makeshift las-pistol in her hand craters the wall behind and an inch away from Basil's head with a pulse of energy.

"Shit! My bad!" She yelps, almost lowering it. Her finger drops from the trigger though, and beneath her patchwork scarf her face flushes.

Basil, his shoulders relaxing as the sudden spike of tension flows away, shrugs. "No harm, no foul."

"Don't move. Keep still, let me look you over." The woman approaches. Basil keeps still, as she pulls the las-rifle from his back. She pats him down, searching his backpack, and thoroughly frisking him.

"[Dog] tame?"

"It won't bite unless I say so." Basil nods.

"Are you really from space?" She asks abruptly, the gun still trained in his face.

Basil nods.

"Put your hands down."

The rusty, thin metal of a pair of handcuffs digs into the false flesh of Basil’s wrists. They cuff him in the front, much unlike the navy crew, who made a point to cuff him behind his back. He doesn’t resist.

“We’re going to take you back home. You’ll meet with Mum.”

They trek north and west through the ruins, down abandoned side alleys and through factories full of rubble. A stubby bridge of rebar and rusted girders stretches over a great crevasse. Basil glances down, through a rusted metal grate. A stream trickles from broken pipes and leaking sewers. The stone there is studded with jutting bones, long worn down.

The sun has set on the horizon as the concrete walls banded with corrugated steel stands on the lip of the crevasse come into view. One of those great factories stands pristine there, with two ramshackle towers and a gate of steel. The gate slides open with a pneumatic hiss, revealing a cavernous warehouse lit by dangling lamps. Within the building are walls of paper and fabric, dividing the structure into workspaces, and living quarters. It is filled with the bustle of business, of chatting groups and hard labor. Great machines line the wall, Breathers, taking in scrap and producing ingots, bolts of cloth, and protein pastes. Crews break down  rusting hulks with great showers of sparks. Men and women sit and eat and laugh, no attention being paid to the newcomers, so focused are they on their own intricate struggles.

The group falls away into various rooms, leaving Basil and the woman to continue on into the depths of the building. A yellowish white diamond marks a door, and the woman enters a number into a keypad. An older woman, all harsh lines and scars set into chocolate-brown skin, sits on the opposite side of a desk. She looks up when the three enter, a frown creasing her face.

“Well, who’s this?” She questions, setting her pen down on the stack of paper and resting her chin on her palm.

“Basil.” He offers, staying polite.

“He comes from outer space!” The younger woman claims, cheerfully. “From that ship we saw a while ago.”

“Huh.” The woman ticks her head to one side. “Don’t say. Why are you here?”

“We brought him here.” The younger woman offers, unhelpfully.

“Thank you, my beloved. Shut up.” The older woman smiles and tilts her head.

Probably wouldn't hurt to tell them the truth that we're from a dying military ship that's missing most of it's crew come to see a military base that turned out to be just as much of a ruin as every where else.

Probably wouldn't hurt to tell them the truth that we're from a dying military ship that's missing most of it's crew come to see a military base that turned out to be just as much of a ruin as every where else.

We have the resources to survive for six months, give or take. We aren't in a critical rush, so I recommend not being too specific about the state of our current residence. If they think we're residing in a fully equipped military base, they're less likely to try and attack us. I recommend telling this "Mum" character that yes, we did come from space, in an Imperial Navy vessel, and are currently residing in a nearby Imperial Navy base.

We want to establish peaceful relationships with these people, they may be able to provide the resources we need to get back on our feet. I can't think of anything immediate that we could offer them, aside from physical labor and your computer skills, but I'm sure there are some things that the two groups could find reason to exchange. I still recommend avoiding the mention or display of your powers for now, unless absolutely necessary.

I recommend asking them for information about their settlement, if they're willing to offer such information. The more we know, the more informed of decisions we can make about how we can help them, and how they can help us.

If for some reason any of them attacks you, fight to defend yourself and disable, and try to avoid any permanent injuries, and instruct Twitchy to do the same. The last thing we want is blood on our hands. But continue to be wary of them, we don't know what their combat capabilities look like.

Our primary goal here, is to provide a positive first impression to this "Mum", so I encourage you to be respectful and polite in your interactions with her. Answer her questions as honestly as you can, without revealing your powers or your status as a scion of the plague.

Additionally, these people may not be aware of the Plague at all, so telling them that you escaped from the plague might not be a good idea, as it has the potential to incite a panic. Asking the other voices for feedback on this one. If nobody else replies, my recommendation is that you don't mention that your ship came from The Plague.

I agree that they don't need to know about the Plague. Other than that, I'm fine with cooperating with their questions.

I agree with all of that but shouldn't we makeup a reason why our ship was damaged since if they saw it they probably know it's damaged so we need to give them some reason as to why.

One option would be to say that the ship was damaged by pirates.

That's probably the best idea right there especially since we were attacked by them right before we got to the planet, also we could use that as a reason why we don't have as many crew as we should.

We probably shouldn't tell the number of crew yet since we don't really know these people and they could potentially use it against us, but when the time comes we can use that reason as to why there aren't very many of us.
