Should gun ownership rights belong to the original design, or should revisions create "new guns" with individual rights?

One design, one right - a gun and all its revisions only belong to one person at a time.
Each revision creates a new gun with rights different from the original.
I have no opinion.

I guess I could fake basic familiarity with my own finances, like I was in the later turns of this game.
Hm, now what sort of gun to make...

Re: RISKY ARMS VENTURE - Winter, 1924 (HIATUS OVER, PLAYERS WELCOME!)
« Reply #287 on: December 25, 2023, 01:15:18 am »

Winter, 1924.  Design Phase.

The Hiatus is over! Merry Christmas!!!

A brief recap of the game thusfar:
The goal of the game is to sell your weapons to various weapons contracts.  This generates Market Share, which is the sum of the money gained through this method.  New players are welcome to join – joining players will get a starting market share of $100 and $400 in spending money (plus $150 of the default starting money) .

As it currently stands, two companies have taken the lead in market share: Vaux and Leander with $1845, and Rohnmodal Armory with $1575.  The game is nearly half-over, and if a company has more than half the total market share (currently $5280) then the game ends automatically.

The neighboring countries which provide the majority of the weapons contracts are as follows:

  • Parvus:  A small country bordering Imperiosa.  Low in funds but high in spirit, friction between the two countries has been steadily increasing over the past few years.
  • Socialas:  Readily embracing the communist ideals of Marxism, they’ve splintered off from Russia during the civil war and have been proposing how to bring Communism to their neighbors – specifically Paupertas.
  • Mariti:  A local naval power, wealthy and keen on preserving order in their ports and on the seas.  They used to be unified with Ditissimus and Singula before the great war.
  • Imperiosa:  Formed out of the losers of the Great War, Imperiosa was relatively un-scathed and has focused quite heavily on how they might rebuild their…police forces.
  • Mundo:  A simple country of simple people.  They like simple guns.  They don’t like their neighbors.  They put those guns on their borders.  Their neighbors stay away.
  • Ditissimus:  A wealthy country bordering Mariti.  They are quite fond of order, and have been dealing with some terrorist activities recently.  They facilitate a lot of the trade in the Adriatic Sea.
  • Singula:  An extremely small country neighboring Mariti, focused primarily on shipping goods overland once they’ve made port.
  • Paupertas:  A poor, impoverished, and financially-challenged country neighboring Socialas.  They are quite nervous about the glories of Communism, which is an unfortunate stance to take when your neighbor is really enthusiastic about it.
  • Unknown Buyer: Various discrete individuals who wish to purchase weapons for purposes that are, quite frankly, none of your god damn business.  They usually have odd requirements and universally request weapons made without serial numbers.

The August Uprising in Georgia occurs, a revolt against the Soviet Union.  The rebellion fails and thousands die.  Singula proposes that they, Mariti, and Ditissimus re-unify into one country; this is a clear violation of The Treaty of Versailles, but serious discussion begins.  Belgium begins using the 8-hour work day.  John Harding and Erik Nelson circumnavigate the globe in an aircraft for the first time in human history.  The trip takes 175 days, which is slightly more than 80.  Sudden and unexpected blizzards close the border between Paupertas and Socialas, and the two countries take the opportunity to build up – no war just yet.  The Toastmaster Club is founded.  Uzbek SSR joins the Soviet Union and the Soviet-backed coup in Estonia fails.  Adolf Hitler is released from prison.  Mundo catches a number of suspicious individuals sneaking across the border, and after a 10 minute trial sentences them to death by firing squad.

In Occassio, the political platform about taxing “sinful businesses” is gaining traction.

It is now the design phase.  You may post a design for a new weapon or post a revision for an existing one.  New contracts will be posted and can be bid on next phase.

So, before rambling on about possible mistakes: Hurruh! Game has returned! Thank you very much and merry xmas and other seasonal holidays of the users choosing!

And now, on to the rambling about possible mistakes. I only just noticed this section from two turns back:
Winter, 1923.  Design Phase.
The NOPE Repeater... ...Unfortunately, the 15-round magazine requires stripper clips to reload...
I was under the impression that the revision results listed below made them detachable and, well, I was advised to make a comment here about possible mistakes, so... sorry about catching this late? Bothering one at all about this? Whichever makes the most sense, I don't know.

ACTACTACT
design:Sub-machinegun VL P24
8x25mm VLP

The P24 is a closed-bolt SMG chambered for the 8x25mm VLP cartridge and using a 30 round double stack box magazine which is loaded from the bottem. In order to manage the rather powerful pistol cartridge with out requiring a heavy bolt assembly the M24 uses a lever delayed blowback action. To keep cost down much of the gun is made out of stamped metal with only the barrel, bolt, action and trigger assemblies being milled steel. With our experience with the VL mg21 some attention is placed on ease of maintenance though instead of latches the reciver housing using push pins to hold it together. In terms of furnation the SMG has a pistol grip and a strait vertical fore grip as well as a non-collapseable matal stock. The P24 comes with an adjustable aperture sight which can onlt be set between 50, 100 and 200 meters. the Gun has a 25cm barrel and and overall lenth of about 75cm.

the 8x25mm VLP is a 8mm catridge similar to the 9x25 Mauser

VLM delivers 2 VL mg21 A2 and 2 ammo to Socialas completing the contract

ACTACTACT

Revision: Valor High Capacity Sidearm-1924
Base: Valor High Capacity Sidearm
Valor High Capacity Sidearm-1924 adds a set of grooves milled into the shroud in front of the barrel's resting position. This achieves two goals, first it provides a place for fouling to build up without marring the action. Second when clean it slows the opening of the action by improving the gas seal, slightly improving felt recoil.

Contract #24 is completed with prompt haste

Pending final agreement, I'll be building either a full run of NOPE Repeater M20* and 7.65×40mm Ammo (for $69), or Halflight Lance Projector and Harpoons for ($81). I'll budget for the  Halflights for now. Deal confirmed with NOPE.

@actactact: Design the KashKow Kicker Gun:
Quote
Type: Rifle
Ammo: 12 Gauge Shell

The KashKow Kicker is a durable and reliable piece of equipment. Built from milled, chromed steel with wooden furniture, it is somewhat weighty but solid, allowing one to reliably use it as a club, leave it in a muddy puddle three weeks and then still fire without fault. As a smoothbore and simple weapon it is not recommended for long ranged shooting, but with its smooth pump action and 6 shell box magazine it is quick to ready and use.

NOPE LLC manufactures one unit of NOPE Repeater M20*. NOPE LLC manufactures two units of 7.65x40mm NOPE LR.
NOPE LLC signs a contract with KashKow Industries where: KK Industries manufactures 3 M20*s and 2 lots of 7.65x40mm and stores them. Should Nope LLC win the Paupertas Defense Force #28 contract, these will be transfered to NOPE LLC, if not they will be sold on the civilian market. Payment is on acceptance of the PDF #28 contract, and is cost plus $7 for weapon and $2 for ammunition.

-snip-

It is currently the design phase.  You can revise it design new weapons.  The bidding phase happens next, during which you will pitch your weapon in a short blurb to whichever contract you're wanting to go after.

ACTACTACT

Massgraves Incorporated
Rifle Design: A1 Locust
Ammunition: 5x20mm

The Locust is a short, stocky rifle emphasizing rate of fire over accuracy or caliber. It features a 30-round drum magazine of modest 5x20mm rounds, and its internals are appropriately efficient at cycling such small rounds at a high rate of speed.

The other distinguishing feature of the Locust is its modularity. The barrel, firing mechanism, and stock are intended to detach from each other with some ease, allowing the swapping out of damaged or fouled parts, and easier maintenance and cleaning.
