Some plants seem no longer farmable?
« on: December 31, 2024, 12:08:02 pm »

(I tried googling, to no avail, because of the sheer breadth of results from across the decades. Apologies if this is a common or known issue)

returning to the steam version after a few months of doing other things, and i can't remember if this was an issue all along, but numerous above-ground crops seem to no longer be farmable, not because they can't be selected, but because the things harvested from the shrubs don't yield seeds. The examples I've noticed right away are garlic, onions and lentils, though I don't seem to have grape seeds in my stockpiles either despite marking the entire map for plant gathering multiple times in two years of game time.

I noticed that these plants only sometimes seem to be able to be marked for gathering, and will list "garlic bulbs" "onions" "Lentil pods" in the tooltip when mousing over, though some still allow marking even when those growths are missing.

Most (if not all) plants only yeld seeds after being eaten, or processed (not cooked!). Have you made sure that your dwarves used those plants in such a way?

I made sure to disable onions in cooking, though i believe at the time i had no standing orders to cook meals anyway.

This was also an issue in past versions, which was mostly fixed by Modest Mod. I don't see a new release for 50.x yet.
