BYOND Dungeon Master

While being a real tribute to DF, it warms my heart to play in DF-like universe online.
Please join whoever can, I'd like to invite you to my fortress to test my traps.

I wish it was open source, since I'd prefer that Bay12 ran its own game of it instead of playing on someone else's server (because from my experience, all BYOND admins and most players are REALLY annoying)

I agree. However this game carries the main aspect: LOSING is fun.

My only woman in the small and growing society ate bad meat and... Died. Then she came back as zombie and killed my fisherman and weaponsmith (her former sons). My king killed her (it was his wife) and buried her corpse. Now I don't know what to do without a woman...

My remaining dwarves grief in the throne room.

Last I played, you could capture NPCs and enslave them and make half-breed babies. Though I dunno if that works in the latest version.

Follow the link Deon gave. All you need is the BYOND client (free), a free account there and someone hosting the DM server at the time.

Thank you, for your reward my spiders shall consume you slowly instead of quickly  ;D.

Also is it possible to host a private server? So I could have my friends and me playing?

Oh noes, where are the spiders race, its not here  ??? :'(.

You have a VERY small to have spiders.

Also here's the screenie of my griefing family:

The father killed one of his sons in madness later, and he decided that he cannot be the king. The remaining son took his crown and became a king. And they went to a huge goblin city and dug sewers under it to live there.

EDIT: I believe if DF had ability to have sprites like these (a dream of many non-hardcore dfers) it would become the most popular game in the world. I find controls here more difficult than in DF (mainly because clicks lag).

This game is interesting, but is even harder to navigate than DF largely due to the BYOND client being difficult to use.  Still, I think this might compete for my time with SS13.

Hey, I saw you! (Trorbes logged in)
Next time if you see Deon23, whisper to me :D. I already have a DF player living in the city I am starting to make.

Actually the worst thing is delay/pause between actions you issue. Other than that, you will get used to controls with time (after a day I feel quite comfortable).

Sitrep:

I've got workshops running and built a few major houses. An adventurer dwarf came (Dervin) and now he lives in a cave in my town ("Freetown").

It's hard to make whole pictures even in photoshop (because of constantly changing line of sight when you move) so sorry for bad clippings (WARNING: large image):

Hmm, Deon, would you mind if I come live somewhere near you (once I get used enough to the game and manage to not kill my people from hunger)?

Also, about how big is the world? Is it feasible to find someone by wandering around, or is it too big for that?

BTW: Is development still ongoing on this game? After a quick look on its forums, it seems not. That's dissapointing :(

How about we post our coordinates? To find what they are, I think the hotkey is 'C' or something, and your coordinates appear in the messages. If its not 'C', then its one of the buttons on the left of the screen...

EDIT: When I click on the farm in build menu, nothing happens... What do I need to farm? I've been told in-game that I have to be a human, but I already am a human adventurer. Are only human groups allowed to farm, and not any other, including human adventurers??

And if I can't farm, what are other ways to get food? There are no animals near my location, I don't know which plants to pick fruit from (if there even are any fruit-bearing plants nearby), I don't know how to fish...

EDITEDIT: nvm, found out how to fish. Still dont know how to farm though
