Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Yes, really.

But what's actually the problem is this- when the elven merchants wandered onto my map, they and their animals ALL immediately went berserk. One or two that entered later weren't berserk but stayed around until they went crazy from starvation, like any other merchant that was trapped. I had traded with them previously, and removed my depot entirely in the intervening time, not wishing to trade with anyone.

This is 40d13, but I had it happen a while ago in 40d with humans. They had an even mix of insanity types though- I spotted a melancholy one repeatedly jump off a ledge. At that time I did have a depot, and I THINK it was accessible.

Thoughts? And is the coincidence not funny?

Your bedrooms are lacking sustenance.

Damn elves, he needed that wood for more fuel, too!

Interesting base layout. I can't make hide nor hair of it, but it looks functional.

I've seen crazy stuff like that happen before. Had a human liaison trigger a cage trap and go nuts, and another one just randomly dropped dead. It happens

All I can imagine now is an elf wandering into your land, seeing a felled tree and your dwarf with his axe and then he starts foaming at the mouth and ripping his clothes off...... ahhh elves, if I didnt hate them so much I would find them adorable

Perhaps I'll check for "Instantaneously insane merchants" in the known bugs.

As for the base layout, it's just a work camp for a megaproject (vault challenge).

I have no idea why your dragon bait went insane, but as for Grendus the reason your diplomat got caught in the trap was because he got hurt in world gen and passed out on the trap. The one that died either got hurt in world gen and bleed out in your fort or he was just really old.

Do humans blame you for that?

Don't worry, human siegers have invented ways to be even stupider than goblins. They usually stand still once they enter the map even if they can get to a dwarf, and the elites are mounted on CIVILIAN horses, which run from all enemies. Usually after one missed caravan and one siege, they come for a peace treaty.

The civilian horse thing sucks, is there a way to mod around it?

And is there a way to make elves invade on unicorn-back and enemy dorfs invade on bear-back?

Yes, you can.
I don't think you can specify, but you can make bears mounts.

Does anyone else really want mounts to be implemented for our dwarves as well, so we can mount those champion axedwarves on champion Grizzly Bears and watch some old fashioned carnage?

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Who doesn't want champion axedwarves riding a grizzly into battle?
