ZAPM: Died on L4 of Alien Impregnation
« on: March 03, 2010, 04:41:36 pm »

So, who else has played ZAPM?
It's a roguelike set in a futuristic theme, with floppy disks replacing scrolls (but you need a computer to use them), and ray guns replacing wands...and some several other "fun" things. Like an alien that implants an embryo into you, causing an alien to explode out of your gut and instakill you. Fun!

Here are some screenshots:

Also, most doors open automatically when you walk next to them.
And, floppy disks (scrolls), need a computer to use, however, you can use them until the license expires. (usually a couple uses)

The floppy disk thing sounds hilarious.

I downloaded it, I'll give my first impressions in a few hours.

Oddly I can't get it to run on my Windows 7 (64-bit).

@rickvoid - If you wanna use floppy disks early on, pick "s" as your class, they start with a computer. This class PWNs because they can tell if something is Buggy/Debugged/Optimized (Cursed/Uncursed/Blessed)

@Tilla - Did you download the right version? The beta links at the top are only for linux and mac...one of the ones at the very bottom is for windows. Other than that....I don't know. It says on the main page that it will be telnet useable soon though.

Buggy/Debugged/Optimised.

That's brilliant.

I'm really looking foreward to it now.

Noooooo!!!
I was mobbed by tons of Storm Troopers (~15 of them).
I survived by running through a couple doors and waiting for them to round the corner. Then I was very happy, I looted all their energy cells, and then....a high ping bastard attacks me...I was losing, so I read...ah hem...executed a floppy disk. It was a Buggy Disk of Spam. I lost all my money, and then I was murdered.

That is a good question! I bet it's just hit rate...but you never know with those easter eggs...
I will now hit myself repetatively with a buggy anal probe!

And Pandarsenic is correct, he needs to try it, and tell me how to remove freaking radiation sickness. And pregnancy.

RadAway and giving birth, respectively?

Where do I get this RadAway?

And giving birth makes an alien burst out of your gut, instakilling. That's what I did the first time. I thought I would peacefully birth a cute little buddy alien.

Okay, just finished first attempt. Space Marine. Started with a +1 Pulse Rifle. Had an AC of 18 when I got shredded by a bunch of Alien Warriors, on floor 9 of the Hulk.

This is a lot of fun! It's like every science fiction universe crammed into one, and spewed liberally all over with technology jokes.

:D

Edit: Almost forgot. The control scheme was off-putting at first. I'm used to arrow keys, but those didn't work. I'm on my laptop, so no num-pad, aside from the one accessable from a function key. Which the game decided to ignore. I don't get the hjkl rogue controls (maybe it's just my keyboard, but those keys make no sense for what they're supposed to do), so the number row at the top of the keyboard was my only option. It worked out okay, but it's a little annoying.
