Noob tv series
« on: March 05, 2010, 07:41:41 pm »

I've recently discovered an awesome TV series about MMORPG called "Noob". Why had you never heard about it, you ask ? Well, that's because it's of french origin ! It was released on Nolife TV (yeah, there's actually a channel called like that, it's on one of our main ISP's TV offer and it actually rules), and then ported on video sharing websites.

Luckily for you, it has since been subbed. It's not of utmost quality (I noticed a couple of typos here and there) but it'll allow you to understand what's going on. The translation seems pretty good, most punchlines has been successfully rendered as far as I saw.

About the show, it's an original idea and it's also well executed. At first I was afraid it'll be a collection of clichés on MMORPGs, but since it has been created by what's basically a team of geeks on a gaming tv channel, it's actually very accurate and everyone here who played at least one MMORPG in his life will recognize most of the jokes, situation and characters described, be them the megalomaniac GM, the guy who play at work and has to log off at the worst possible time, the server crashes or the good ol' chinese gold farmer.

The plot revolve around the adventures of Gaea, a greedy geekette, Arthéon, the guild leader and Only Sane Man, OmegaZell, a misogynist beauf (complete with southern accent and all) whose only dream is to enter the game's number one guild, and bandaid (Sparadrap in VO), the archetypal newbie, as they discover and / or try to progress in a new MMORPG, Horizon 1.0.
During their (literal) quests, they'll be backed up (or blocked) by a lot of common figures of MMOs, players, mobs and NPCs alike.

So if you want to watch a good TV series about MMORPG in a funny language (granted, riddled with english MMOs slang words), just go there to watch the episodes on Youtube (remember to watch in HD, the default 360p quality is rubbish) : http://noob-tv.com/noob_09.html
It starts at the bottom. The first episode is a bit "meh", but the rest is awesome, and it become better and better (my favorite episode is the 19th).

The main characters. From left to right : Gaea, Bandaid, OmegaZell, and Arthéon.

The invoker (Gaea) at work.

Enjoy !

Well, they're not really LARPers... I mean, they're supposed to be in a computer game. A game with very realistic graphics, granted, but definitely more than a couple nerds swinging around foam sword :)

I was partially kidding.

I'm fan of Dead Gentlemen Productions.

Fairly similar, more aimed at table top nerds.
