Tratpin Wardboat was hurt by a terrifying disapointment in his village.
He decided to find some quality booze to heal that bad feeling. Now trying to find a specific item can be a whole adventure anyways for a peasant-level of a character.
The immediate problem was that of course there was no booze in that whole hamlet, there was the well but it was only water, there was no barrel of booze or anything approaching in the surrounding, and Tratpin guessed that trying into one of the dozen of nearby villages would certainly not get any better.
Direction the town then, hopefully people are civilised there and maybe he can find something to heal his despair.
Lucky Tratpin, there's a town at some distance in his world
The joy of being a peasant-level of character in DF is that none really takes you seriously, even the most low level civilian will laugh at your request of joining into adventure, same as any soldiers do.
And so Tratpin Wardboat was alone, none was willing to get along with him and even less move out of the village.
The town was fortunately not too far, maybe he could reach it before the night (oh the fun of moving alone at night as a peasant) but there was some dreadful tomb nearby, hmm, not really some place safe.
But what the biggest problem is that this region is the Hills of Limb.
What's so special with the Hills of Limb, out of the odd name of course ?
well from the reports it appears that's just the region lots of monsters and other evil things are roaming into while killing people.
Anyways, let's move out. On that travel, Tratpin spotted many things moving around, didn't even tried to check if they were monsters or people , the mastery of battle wasn't really Tratpin skill.
Hmm, looks like there are some lively wilderness with all those roaming * let's continue to run along the road and not wait for them.
Not going to the east at all, but annoyingly, there are that group/individual/monster that is moving in the same direction as Tratpin, i wondered if they were actively following my character.
I doubt they have what Tratpin is looking for, not going in , sorry.
Not seen in the screenshot, i have seen moving groups/people/monsters a lot, i zig zag-ed on the travel several time to avoid contact.
Oh the glorious sight ! i'm reaching that fortified big town and Tratpin is still alive !
The quest is reaching its end, Tratpin can smell it from there, who say peasants couldn't have a big adventure in DF ?
The first contact with the town shows a bit of spam regarding a ton of peacocks that root around.
Tratpin decide to talk to a merchant nearby, the guy tells him about a bronze colossus, but in order to not look suspicious and move without attracting unnecessary attention, our hero decide to imitate the classic npc reply.
Went very easily, but oh so depressing.
Anyways, moving around the area, i noticed it was really unpleasantly slow, that tons of "general import" stores filled with useless items (not a single barrel of anything to drink ! ) and tons of useless NPC (not a single one know where to find booze !) certainly play badly, looking at world viewer that town has more than 2000 people !
Yeah, looks like caps only work on dwarves sites (that on that world all have reasonnable 150+/- citizens) but not on any other races, performance feels nearly like those near unplayable goblin sites.
And suddenly, it was there, the goal of the quest ... a tavern !!
Finally, after enduring a dangerous travel in the wilderness, enduring the depressing NPC reactions, enduring the slow slow slow overpopulated town , the tavern was in sight.
A single drunk, several clothing pieces around a few non-drunk people and a table, a ... bed ?
Anyways, i was happy to read some dialogues that didn't had a "it's terrifying" killing the mood, nearly felt like roleplaying dialogues with the people in the tavern, until i noticed ...
there .... was ... nothing to drink anywhere here.
ARGH !!
What the .. Tratpin risked his life to get here and that's a tavern that has absolutely nothing to drink ? This is infamy !
You ! the only drunk guy in the middle ! how did you get drunk ? there's nothing to drink there ! where is all the booze !
The guy wasn't answering clearly, he was drunk anyways, so Tratpin decided to let the fist do the convincing like it happens a lot in the village discussions, he would have an answer !
The guy was so drunk that while getting sick and being punched he was still repeating the same thing to a tanner that was starting to look embarassed, the drunk decided to fetch his knife, not sure if it was to attack Tratpin or to threaten that poor tanner.
So Tratpin Wardboat punched him in the face
The drunk decided to vomit while still embarassing the tanner with his stupid dialogue spam, our hero decided to ask him to yield and answer his questions, but the guy was decided to refuse.
Tratpin then went to generously punch him more. Of course i forgot he was a peasant-level of character, so the fight was a festival of "you miss" this and "you miss" that , i imagine it was hilarious to see from the outside.
Anyways, after a few attempts, the drunk decided to move out of the tavern, Tratpin followed in case he would lead me to the booze.
At least the nonsensical reactions and dialogues of the drunk made sense in that context because at least that NPC had the excuse of being drunk
Though he went enraged, so when they're not terrified, they're enraged, there's progress.
As the guy with his knife was a bit dangerous now (i wonder why it ceased to be non lethal, i only used my character fists there) Tratpin decided to try to knock him out, as he was surprisingly landing his punches more regularly now (surprising because the skills are very low with peasants)
The fight went on for a while and the drunk was still enraged, while Tratpin had managed to punch him a lot, suddenly the drunk got a lucky roll
Hmm, that wasn't really nice, Tratpin is bleeding, nauseous and is in pain.
So you want to play like that, ok let's then use Tratpin spear
After more stabbing from both sides, suddenly the drunk wasn't enraged anymore, i guess being spear stabbed in the guts can do that too.
And as a conclusion, the drunk decided to run away for his life, clever drunk.
Hmm... what a waste of time, Tratpin had no more clue for the location of the booze.
But ... wait a minute, maybe that battle wasn't a waste of time after all.
BOOZE !!
And so it ended, Tratpin Wardboat succeeded in finding the long lost booze, even without having to wait for Toady tavern system
