Epic. Freaking. Win. (Local Government names)
« on: May 01, 2010, 04:46:01 pm »

Just got a dwarven government. What is it called?
Iron Fist. So. Freaking. Win.

Pics will come shortly, once my engravers make pictures of it.

Post the best names of a government you've seen.

I've gotten a few nice ones.

Dwarf:
- The East Axes (sounds like a Dwarven mercenary company, though it isn't of course)

Human:
- The Council of Liberation
- The Eternal League (wasn't that what Switzerland was originally named?)
- The Peaceful-League of Soldiers (Special contradiction edition)

Goblin:
- The Grieving Curse
- The Confident Lie
- The Fatal Hell

Elf:
- The Quick Howl (Okay, this one's just in because it makes me think of ElfQuest)

Also, I saw one called "The Coast of Radiance".  I'm going to see if I ever get one called "The Pool of Radiance"...  :P

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

The Depressed Devil of Bone. It was a goblin civ.

Switzerland = The Helvetian Confederation.  They haven't left their homes on a mission of conquest since Julius Caesar put them in their place.

My best Gov. name was "The Dead of Spirit".  It was a custom name, but what surprised me was that its symbol was a coffin.

Dwarven economics are still in the experimental stages. The humans have told them that they need to throw a lot of money around to get things going, but every time the dwarves try all they just end up with a bunch of coins lying all over the place.

Well, at least they got it pretty close.

Maybe you just translated it wrong.

I once had a fort  semi-random-named 'Boltstab'. Considering the entire fort was to be guarded by crossbow-dwarfs (this was 40d), it felt very appropriate.

I do like it when DF randomly comes up with something relevant to the fort you're creating - while playing with 40d# trying to find some spires of rock to server as a foundation for a multiple tower based fortress, I find pretty much the perfect site (magma, chasm, underground river, a pit and HFS, in a 5*6 where all the edge tiles were soil/sand biomes at the same elevation, with the center tiles consiting of mountain biomes that had 4 tiles with very high elevation, giving me beautiful ~50-zlevel spires to craft into a fortress).

DF decides to call them "Spikesmiths". Perfect. I just wish I could find spiky terrain like this in 2010...

I got a human one called the Swords of Liberation. Ironically, they were the heads of a XBAWKSHUEG empire.

The Confederation of Bakers (Heh)
Somebody needs to mod in an oven for baking. Then you can just provide flour and fuel and make bread! Flour + Sugar for cakes/cookies etc.

And, of course, dwarves would make magma ovens.
