(D&D 4E: Maptool) Schedule Killed
« on: May 02, 2010, 03:31:49 pm »

It looked like there was enough interest, so I'm going to go ahead and plan on running a campaign.  Planned time is Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.  We can start up to one hour earlier if all the players agree, and we can play as late as the players want to.

Character sheets are due on May 17th, which is a Monday.  I'll pick characters by May 18th, which is Tuesday.

Thursdays at 1pm your time (7pm for me, GMT) would be ideal for me, or I could do any time from noon-3pm on that day. The other days are much busier for me.

I've plenty of experience with D&D 4th, but I've never played a tabletop RPG online, so that part'll be new to me.

I'm potentially interested if no non-free programs are needed. The earlier times work for me. The last three hours of those time-slots are fairly bad for me, but technically still doable.

I have a basic understanding of pre-D&D 4.0 rules, but have no experience with 4.0.

Thanks for posting interest guys.  Although it looks like you have incompatible schedules. [EDIT: Silly me, I misinterpreted Nirur's post.]  Tomorrow I'll put up some information on the setting I'm hoping to use, and maybe we'll get some more interested people after that.

The programs we would definitely use are Maptool and Hamachi, which are both free for personal use.

Interested, depending on this and that. Early is not preferred but doable, late won't work on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hunh? I thought Nirur Torir was referring to the time slots you posted (of which the last few hours are impossible for me, too).

Tuseday and Thursday noon till perhaps 4 'o clock would work out nicely for me, but do remember that I have next to no experience with D&D except for what I've gathered from playing Baldur's Gate (So don't yell at me if I make stupid choices leveling up or somehing ;))

I see there's three more interested people.  Thanks for stopping in and posting interest.  Correct me if I'm wrong (I was wrong before in this topic), it looks like there's enough people for a group on Thursdays towards the start of the time-slot.

Just a question. Is it IRC based or will it be PbP?

I've always wanted to try D and D, though I have little access to information on 4.0 and I'd be asking a lot of questions.

Secondly, would you allow custom content, races and such?

The game will be Maptool based.  It's an open-source program that combines a chat server, a map with tokens, and macro functionality.  It's easy to use at a basic level, and it has plenty of bells and whistles if you want to learn how to use them.

Additionally, we'll be using Hamachi, which is free for non-commercial use, to create a virtual LAN.  This is because port-forwarding with my ISP is an arcane science that drives men insane.

I might host something quick and extremely easy to learn so everyone can get used to Maptool's interface.  Nothing definite yet, more details will be made available later.

People new to D&D are welcome.  I always like introducing new people to the hobby.

Custom or "homebrew" content is allowed on a per case basis.  If nothing appropriate can be found, we can have a brainstorming session and homebrew it ourselves.  I try to be a permissive DM regarding content.

However, if I allow something and then it breaks the game (i.e. makes it less fun) I will take measures to correct it.  This may be modifying a power, changing the bonus on an item, or having you rebuild your character*, but it will never result in me nerfing your character without giving you the option to rebuild.
*If you do something silly like take a monster build off the char op forums, AND it makes the game less fun.

I'm somewhat interested. I played two games of 3.5 before(and by two games, I mean two sessions, not two campaigns, so yeah... really new), but none of 4E. All I know is that I like 3.5's alignment system better, but whatever, I can give it a shot.

Probably be either a Paladin, Fighter, Cleric or Druid, depending on what the party needs. Maybe a Wizard/Sorcerer, but those seem pretty complicated and I'm still very new to tabletop RPGs. As I said I am rather new to these kind of games, and will probably need some help making my character.

Since the limit of my 4.0 experience is a character builder I downloaded ten minutes ago, I think I'd like to stick with a dwarven fighter.
