Right but what can you put rice IN!?!

Sorry... I am just saying this again due to the rule of "Next page skip over"

Also you can add peas and fish to rice... I hate it... but a lot of people love the taste.

Mm. Don't forget you can use the rice cooker instead of a slow cooker if you're in a rush. I made some weird monstrosity with a chicken stock base, V8, cabbage, and it was actually pretty amazing. Kinda like a ghetto bigos.

Huh. I just make mine on the stove top.

Pan fried asparagus on rice is good. Assuming you like asparagus, of course. I do.

If you're lazy, Frank's Red Hot. Of course, I do put it on everything, so I might be biased. Salsa is also good, and also changes up the texture, which is nice.

I live in a semi-vegan household, so I've learned to do quite a bit without meats.

Last night I made some rice with stir-fried veggies with teriyaki sauce and tuna. It was delicious!

Planning on buying a cheap rice-cooker soon, if anyone has any suggestions. I'm looking for a very small one, and perferably pretty cheap.

Provided you have access to a stove-top (I do not know your living conditions), you're probably better off just buying a wide pot. I had a rice cooker for a while, but it started going strange and not cooking the rice thoroughly. Not that it really ever did a good job on the first place.

Rice on the stove is easy. Pour the desired amount of rice into the pot, turn up the heat. The rice will brown a little this way, give it some more flavor. Once some of the rice is toasty, pour in the water. It just hiss and steam, if the rice is at the right temp. From there, follow the rice's cooking direction.

I should point out, I use brown basmati, so different types of rice might need different amounts of toasting.

I use rice in sandwiches. Don't knock it til you've tried a hot ham and cheese and rice.

...that sounds perfect. Must try it soon.

I do have access to a stove, that's what I usually use...

Mexican Rice.

Saute dry rice in some butter or olive oil until it browns.

Mash up some tomato, cut up some onions and some garlic while it does that.

Turn down heat on the browning rice.

Add a cup and a half or so of chicken stock, and the veggies. Cover and let cook for, oh, an hour or so. Check until the stock has reduced and disappeared. Pull and serve.

It makes regular like look like a bitch. May not fill your stomach like meat, but it's flavorful enough to fool your taste buds.
