Rainseeker's Update
« on: December 30, 2010, 03:32:49 am »

Thought I'd let the community at large know that when my family and I (wife and kids) got back from vacation today, my house-sitter told me that my precious African grey parrot had died while I was gone.  It was nobody's fault, as far as we can tell.  We all cried for a while.  I'd just like to say, Maggie, you were an amazing bird, and an amazing friend.  You will be missed.

How old was 'e when you first met?

At least this way (the bird dying first) it wont have to pine away without you.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Cool thirdpost.

Rainseeker: I'm sorry :( Having lost many a bird of many species growing up I know that you can get more attached to them than most people may realize.

Yes, Maggie was a great bird, who loved me deeply, and tolerated my wife.  ;)  Her previous owner died suddenly and she didn't get along well with the widow so I was able to adopt her.  She was a replacement for my previous bird who died suddenly in an accident.  Maggie was 15 when we adopted her, and would have lived another 45 years or more if her natural lifespan had been respected.

I have kept many sledding dogs, many of them physically and mentally unfit for sledding, but I loved them all the same, and I am sorry for your lost. From my experiences it is the worst when you lose a pet out of nowhere. You have our sympathy.
