January 2nd.

Tarakan falls, Manado falls, BANZAI! Tarakan's oil fields and refineries are all intact! A wing of Zeroes is transferred there straight from Formosa; hope the Dutch Uglofortresses will try their luck tomorrow! They did today, without no hits on my shipping.

Early hours, Palembang is invaded. Resistance is much weaker than what I anticipated.. And good so. Royal Air Force pathetically fails to hit even one ship, and Dutch submarines eat depth charges when they try to find Ryujo. The push in Malaya stops, I will need tomorrow for regrouping and waiting for the slower units to catch up.

As bonus points, a submarine runs into an unescorted convoy off Fiji and sinks a big passenger liner that was heading North West... Aussies' reinforcements to Sumatra/Java/Timor?

Rabaul invasion force assembles at Truk. They will need a day to pick up rest of the troops and another to wait for Kido Butai.

Some screenies will be edited in later.

Malaysian and Dutch East Indies "front":

And China:

Spoiler: another big one (click to show/hide)

Most interesting persons to claim might be fresh arrived pilots... Some ship might spend 3 years of the war escorting a fisherman off Kuyshu. Or then get torpedoed/bombed in its first battle, in waters far from the land with not much hope for anyone to survive.

Can I claim a battleship? That should last, and actually do something.

I don't know specifics of this game, but you should probably try and launch that northern offensive in China ASAP, or they could pull those troops down to hit Wuchang, which appears to be some sort of city, from behind, leaving you in a precarious position.

Put me in a D3A(Dive Bomber) if its not too much trouble. You should have some, according to wikipedia they were involved in almost every action of the war. I'ma sink me some ships!

Or a kickass sub if you plan on using them.

If you could put me in as the least experienced zero pilot you're currently sending into combat, that would be funny.

Whenever I remember I'll add these to the first post, and everything that happens to them.

yamo:
Pilot Officer, 2nd class, Saburo Kanda, a fresh graduate from the Navy Fighter School in Yokohama, now assigned to CVE Hosho's fighter wing, the Hosho-1. The unit has Navy Carrier Fighter type 0 Mitsubishi model 21 fighters, alias A6M2 "Rei-Sentoki" Zeroes. With 16 pilots and 10 aircraft there isnt a plane for everyone, but as Hosho's first mission is going to be invasion support in the South China Sea where it is easily in range of daily replacement aircraft(but not pilots), the imbalance will help to keep the fatigue low without wasting pilots. Hosho will set sail in a few days, but being a slow escort carrier, a converted merchantman actually, it will take over a week to cruise there. Its operational home port will probably be either Saigon or Palembang, and it will first be escorted by 2 destroyers, and probably gets Ryujo's current escort when it will retire to repairs in Hong Kong, Shanghai or Pescadore island in Formosa.

Zrk2:
battleship Kongo is refitting in Hong Kong. If you can think of a Japanese name, you can be the ships new fire controller or a turret/battery commander, or claim Captain Koyanagi. Kongo is an old ship, built in 1915 originally as a battlecruiser, but since those times it has been fitted with extra armor and rebuilt almost completely. Despite being heavier than the original ship, Kongo class, its sister ships being Haruna, Kirishima and Hiei, is the fastest battleship class in the Pacific, making it in many ways more useful than the heavier Fuso and Nagato classes, that can only do 25 knots vs. Kongo's 30 knots. Once Kongo's refit is done, it will set sail with a heavy escort, and be stationed at Bedelaob in the Palau islands.

thobal:
I have around 200 D3A1s in active squadrons, 6 squadrons in Kido Butai, now off Guam and steaming South, 3 in Japan(1 training, 2 anti-submarine/naval search) and the 10th in Batan island, between Philippines and Formosa, doing ASW search to protect the naval traffic. Up to you if you want action in 4-5 days or a more peaceful command... You might get transferred later, though.

Burnt Pies:
Corporal M. Kamihira of the Kanoya Ku K-1 stationed at Truk atoll. The unit flies 27 x G4M1 long range torpedo bombers, and is currently tasked with naval search. They will support the landings at Rabaul in New Britain within a week. With some luck they will be in strike range of the American CV fleet. Scroll up for the "Battle of Bismarcks" operational plans, top right is Truk.  Kamihira himself has now flown just a single mission. The unit has lost a couple of aircraft in accidents, one pilot missing in action and another killed in landing.

Mithras:
there are no bad pilots in the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Force! But heres a freshly arrived Zero pilot: Warrant Officer Kudo, O, of 3rd Ku S-1 Det B, based at Tarakan. Scroll up, Tarakan is the place I just conquered and moved a Zero force in. Today, they just shot down a Dutch B-239, a W331(or something) bomber, damaged another and turned the air raid back where they came from. The unit has now 5 kills and 2 losses, both operational ones, with one pilot killed. No losses to enemy activity. Kudo himself arrived just today, the unit will most likely see a lot of action in the following days so its never bad to have too many pilots. It has now 10 pilots and 9 Zeroes.

January 3rd.

Palembang falls, Banzai! And with its oil and refineries intact! That is 900 tons of oil every single day, with 1020 tons refinery capacity. Unfortunately the port is not big enough for the carriers or battleships, and its up to a river anyways, so this fuel and oil is temporarily of not much use. Most of the invasion force will rest a day and then march South towards Oosthaven, with a smaller force turning to the North. A squadron of Ki-43 Hayabusas is also moved to Palembang. They will protect the unloading fleet from further British & Dutch air raids.

Ryujo gets attacked by more bombers and a submarine... The joke is getting old, and Ryujo is ordered off to Hong Kong. With Palembang now having an air protection of its own, it is no longer absolutely needed in the area, either. Ryujo's Zeroes got 11 confirmed kills during the operation, without a loss.

Also, looks like Manila had a little more troops than was expected. This will take a while, but is doable.

I can't think up s good Japanese name to save my life, so I'll take the captain. Thanks.

What has the guy you're playing against say about this, he appears to be getting trounced quite soundly.

I'll take a tank commander.

I'm sure the trouncing is part skill of our host, and part the starting positions of the nations.

Yes, Japan always should start on the offensive, but he hasn't pull off a single counterattack of any size. I hope he gets something going soon, to produce more interesting reading, but sometimes a trainwreck is good to...

I dont think he has much to do a counter attack with yet... Allies should have lots of troops in Burma/India area, but there I'm actually hoping him to move all his units to the front, because they move very slow(and their supply lines are thin) in the jungles, so that I could do an amphibious landing behind his lines, supported by carriers and battleships he probably cant counter before late 42.

Currently, hes pulling a "Brave Sir Robin" manoeuvre, from Monty Python's movie The Holy Grail, ie. "gallantly running away": pulling back to regroup, building up and looking for opportunities to strike back, while trying to avoid his units getting cut off and destroyed. Hes struck back now 3 times, first off Kota Bharu(he lost a cruiser), then Wake(which ended very costly to him, with a Fleet Carrier and all its escorts lost) and Celebes(we can call this almost a stalemate, he lost much more but my losses arent as replaceable).

I'm mostly just guessing, but he might be moving stuff to Java, trying to stop or at least delay the Japanese there. I will probably need at least a month before I have the units and operational basis to invade Java, and a lot might happen before that.

thobal:
from the Batan island D3A group then. I'll update later.

EuchreJack: Dont have names yet, but theres one tank unit with the forces that just landed in Sumatra. Updating later.

Zrk2: OK. Updated to first post.
