My first reaction was WHAT DID THEY DO TO MY TECH SCREEN?!?!
I do that in every game. When I saw how they replaced the 1000 individually described items from HOI1 with research-blocks of HOI2, I was quite sad too. And while that might have been an arguable change (it did make research a simpler affair), starting years were just abominable (I still think they are, even if I do agree HOI2 is a much better game).

Eh. Starting years for research? That's something I can live with, honestly. I don't like the idea of being able to field hovertanks in 1944 so long as I'm okay with an air force made of biplanes. If you're talking about scenario starting years, I agree with you there. It could use a few more. <.<

Mega-update coming tomorrow. It's probably the longest one yet.

I more or less agree with a1s here, since I never really enjoyed the big research blocks in HoI2 either. I also despise starting years, but i also see it as useful when you're playing something like Nationalist China for example- you need the time to catch up.

Nice work there. From the casualty screens I can see that no-one has declared war yet apart from you. Have they made any attempts to ally with each other?

Also, I think if you want those Indochinese provinces you can 'buy' them using the 'open negotiations' diplomatic option and swap em for resources or blueprints. Don't expect to get em for cheap though.

I want them to implement something like the system used in Imperialism 2- the more countries have a technology the faster it can be researched*. Of course Imperialism only had half a dozen players, while Paradox games famously feature everyone and their grandma, but if they only did the recalculation, say, once a month, it could work. So this way you can field plasma hover-tanks in 1944, but you should be prepared for the Nazis/Reds to follow suit.

________________________________________________
*Or you could have a system where you get research bonuses for: technology being discovered, your allies having it, your enemies having it (smaller bonus obviously), and parts of the world (10%, 25% and 50%) having it, with technologies becoming dirt cheap by the time all the bonuses are collected.

Well done. Also, can we know why you're attacking the PRRS rather than China or India?

IHateOutside: the only diplomatic move there's been is my joining the Allies (led by the USNA).

Sheb: It comes down to the forces I have to play with. The Australasian Navy has twenty-one flight decks (though 16 of those are escort carriers), with three more under construction (and as our manpower comes back up I'll probably start building more), plus thirty-one light and heavy cruisers and something like fifty submarine flotillas. In short, our navy is stronger than any two others out there, and on top of that we have the USNA to throw in another twenty or thirty ships. I'm confident that I can win a naval war against anyone, so the PRRS is a natural target. If I can deny them the seas, I can pick apart their island holdings without too much trouble.

The Republic of China is a possible ally (although I can't invite them to the Allies, since I'm not the USNA), so I don't want to attack them, and India is almost entirely a land power. My 97 divisions may be skilled and well-led, but I'm under no impression that they'd be able to win a stand-up fight against a land army which isn't already crumbling due to lack of industry.

Why can't you ally due to you not being the USNA?

Even in this alt-history scenario, there are three main alliances: the Allies, the Axis, and Comintern. The USNA was the alliance leader of the Allies, and I joined that alliance. As a non-leader of the alliance, I can't invite people to join.

2 March, 1938:

There were going to be some pictures, but the game appears to have saved only the last one. Oops.

Anyway, not much happened since August 7th. Some divisions were completed. Another three-division corps is making its way to the Finnish front, and two more such corps will be rolling off the productions lines before too much longer.

Tech teams are progressing; three or four are about to be finished, so I'm going to ask all the ministers for their next technology moves. Army receives two, Air receives one, Navy receives one.

Production is continuing apace. Army will soon have ~20 IC to play with. Air is halfway done with its series of tactical bombers and 3/8 on its interceptors. Navy production is focused on transports at the moment, with three flotillas ready to deploy and seven more coming; there's enough overhead for a destroyer, submarine, or light cruiser production line.

In foreign policy, should we intervene in the Spanish Civil War with more than just supplies? If we deploy some transports in Leningrad and spend some money making nice with the Republican Spanish, we might be able to get ourselves an ally on the southern flank of Europe, which could come in handy later.

In domestic news, we had an event (one of the missing pictures, alas). We lost a lot of officers--roughly half our forces lost their commanding officers. I have a list of all the officers who died, but the computer it's on is stubbornly refusing to stay connected to the Internet long enough for me to get it. When I do it'll be posted here.

Yes we should. We cannot let the Republican fail!

Aye, put those transports to good use.And use the extra IC to build a light cruiser and place it along the transports (well they will probably be off way before it's completed su just smack it down in Leningrad).Research should be focused on Battleships but if that's too ahead of it's time (1-2 years) go for Carriers instead.

Well, any updates? :P

By the way, I was playing my own game of AoD and had a few questions to ask, if you would mind: As the Soviet Union, I annexed Finland, Norway and Denmark through the Winter War and Blitzreiging them making for quick wars usually within two weeks each. (Finland took four days, :D). However, due to these wars, I have now gotten a Belligerence of 77 and I'm kind of worried that this might have a negative impact on my gameplay - but I haven't seen any other nations cancelling non-aggression pacts or declaring war on me, so would it be fine for me to keep annexing smaller nations until Barbarossa? Or is sitting tight and waiting for to sweep in Germany the better option?
