I started looking around on the forums for mods and found a lot of decent ones that I tried out. However there wasnt any "review" as such for me to compare the mod with, so it all had to be done via trial and error.

So I was thinking, well was adviced by Deon, to make a thread here on the forums linking my own personal opinions of each mod that I play.

All opinions and views are my own. And they are all based on a few things. How active the creator is, how large the mod is, how in depth the mod is, how kind the creator is and what they do for the people who wish to play their mod e.g. do they make a separate upload file specificly for certain graphics?

Corrosion Mod By IT 000

The Corrosion MOd created by IT 000 Seems to offer a lot and looks very inticing with it's zombie hordes and post-apocalyptic world.

The reason I am reviewing this mod to begin with was because of these main points .... I LOVE ZOMBIES lol

Anyways let's get to the point, my initial review - based solely on my own opinions based off of what I have seen on the forums. The mod looks incredibly fun but difficult to play, may even be a challenge for the toughest of DF vets out there.

The Mod is based in an alternate world where humans tried to create a pill that cured aging, however there where dire consequences, the people who took the pill turned into monsters - mostly known as zombies. Now the survivers have to fend for themselves and fight of these hordes of monsters, that seem to never end and keep coming to kill every non-infested human.

The Thread itself is very active, not so much as of late however, but there seems to be a lot of activity and there always seems to be someone there to help if you are needing some. IT has, in the past, been incredibly active and does try to make sure he keeps the mod patched and removing bugs etc. Also he does try to update the game so the graphics look a little better, he created his own graphics pack for this mod.

Thread Activity - 8/10 - The thread is very active, maybe not as active as mods like genesis mod or fortress defense mod but still
Modders Percieved Kindness - 8/10 - IT seems to be incredibly kind and will try to answer any questions asked of him and he also tries to get rid of every single bug he can
Update Time Periods - 7/10 - There are a lot of updates for this mod, whether or not that is a good thing is a personal opinion, but IT does seem to try to keep the mod updated as often as possible, unless he goes AWOL lol
[Lore   - 8/10 - There is a specific lore for this mod which makes it a lot more "fun" to play as it immerses u more into the actual mod.
Originality - 8/10 - There are not many mods out there based specificaly on a zombie apocyplypse ^_^. Also not many modders make their own graphics pack for their mod.
Overal - 8/10 - Overal this mod looks incredible, there are a lot of things in this mod that look fun to use and seperate it from the others mods. Also the difficulty is very inticing

This Mod is Incredibly difficult. I couldnt mine into the mountain too far as everytime I actually hit a rock my miners would get gassed and killed . So I couldn't use any stone to build things like mechanisms lol .

I did however really enjoy it even if I didnt last all that long lol , like less than a year . But it was fun since I am starting to find Dwarf Fortress and most mods pretty simple, yes even Genesis Mod.

Another reason this mod is so difficult is because weapons are really difficuly to make and you have to wait untill you get your first traders before you really get any "decent" weapons and armor, since "coke" and "metals" are not easy to get to as mining is dangerous heehee.

But now to get to the point. What does this mod have to offer the players of Dwarf Fortress? Well as mentioned before it is incredibly challenging, if u can get past the lack of graphics, making it in my opinion one of the best mods out there. It also adds new weapons and brand new ways of creating weapons, e.g. wooden axes cannot be made at the carpenters workshop - can make it annoying if you want to start with the bare minimum . There are also strengths and weaknesses to certain weapons for example some creatures may only be able to get killed by melee weapons - due to melee weapons normally being stronger in general than ranged - but that means getting close to the enemy, and they are normally pretty damned strong and tough The mod will be even tougher once the new Dwarf Fortress update comes out heehee ^_^ and trust me it will be FUN!!!!!!!

Now for bugs, well there weren't many bugs tbh, but then again I aint all that great at looking for bugs lol. The only bugs I found was dwarf therapist not working with this mod all that well and sometimes the game completely crashes when creating a world .

And how is the corrosion mod community? Well I think they are great, whenever someone is having trouble people are quick to reply and help. Some may even be willing to upload a pre-installed version of the mod, that way you dont have to actually do the whole moving of files yourself, good for lazy people - like me lol. Other people even look for ways to advance the mod and add extra things into and give IT 000 the RAWS so he can add it and he normally does ^_^

Originality         - 9/10  - The diffuclty factor makes this mod incredibly original, that and adding in a specific lore to this mod ^_^
Difficulty         - 10/10 - Easily the MOST difficult mod I have EVER played for DF to date. There is so many thngs in this mod that can kill your "humans" without the player even "trying" to kill their humans lol
Bugs            - 7/10  - There were some bugs in this mod, however there were not a lot which made the game great and easy to play. But more teasting needs to be done to be certain
Playability         - 8/10  - This mod may be a bit too difficulty to play a lot of times tbh. I may still prefer playing the genesis mod over this due to the fact I can actually survive longer than a year lol
Graphics         - 6/10  - The integrated Graphics in this mod still seems incomplete since a lot of it is still ASCII graphics but there are still some graphics that have been designed specifacally for this mod by the modder
Overal            - 8/10  - One of the best mods out there, especially for players who are starting to find Dwarf Fortress a little "too" easy, sometimes I do - untill I played this mod lol. But there is a lot to offer even the newer players but this mod is definately more for the "experienced" Dwarf Fortress players.

My Little Pony Mod for Dwarf Fortress By Nidokoenig

To start I do NOT care for My Little Pony sorry to all those who do.

Now that that is out of the way. Let's talk about the this mod, well what can I say other than it is a mod based on the cartoon series "My Little Pony" or MLP by some.

So far from what I have seen on the threads about this mod it looks incredibly active and popular. Which in turn means there will be a lot of help for people wanting to know more about the mod and such.

The Modder Nidokoenig seems pretty kind as they are always active on the thread and they did reply back to me when I asked them if I could LP and Review the mod and within a day Nido had already replied saying yes ^_^. This I always find pretty good in a modder.

Thread Activity - 10/10 - This mod always seems to be in the top 2 pages of the Mods Forums. Which makes it incredibly active
Modders Percieved Kindness - 8/10 - From What I know Nido is pretty kind but I havent reakkt had much time to converse with Nido
Update Time Periods - N/A - I am unsure as to how often this mod is updated. There isnt really much of an opportunity to know on the threads
[Lore   - N/A - I have no idea about the lore of the MLP so I cant make a guess at the lore of this mod   
Originality - 8/10 - I do not know of another Mod that is based of a cartoon series as of yet. There are lots of mods based of games etc however. But the mod does include a lot of things that are like other mods e.g. including new weapons, creatures etc.
Overal - 7/10 - Since I cannot tell a few things from the thread like the update rate etc. So I cant make a full assesment of the mods thread sorry Nido.

I really do not think that this mod was all that difficult. The mod is more or less of the same difficulty as the vanilla DF. It may be more difficult the further into the years u go however I didnt get past 2 years.

I can say one thing however playing this mod made me want to watch My Little Pony series . And I did lol. But if you do not watch My Little Pont or dont really have any connection to it then this mod really isnt for you.

What does this mod offer the average dwarf fortress player? Well it offers another way of playing the game, well u get to play it as Ponies instead of dwarves. There is also a very decent caste system in this mod. I LOVE caste systems hahahaha but yeah there are quite a few castes in this mod. And there are a few civilizations with seperate castes as well making it more in-depth

I think I did find a few bugs in the game but none that were game breaking that I remember. Only some that are either pre-programmed into Dwarf Fortress itself or rendering fat problems.

Lastly the community on the My Little Pony thread. Well what can I say? It is probably one of the most active mods atm with 3 or 4 modders trying to increase the mod itself consistently with some very dedicated followers trying to help out what they can. So there is always activity on the thread and someone is always willing to reply and help anyone with problems.

Originality   - 8/10 - This is a very original mod as it is based on a TV series - a cartoon series at that ^_^. The first mod that I have seen as of yet do this. Well defo the first mod I have reviewed
Difficulty   - 4/10 - Well this mod really isnt difficult at all. Get a spider pony and ur set. Put them in the military and kill everything u can while all ur other ponies do all the other work. Well thats how I found it anyways.
Bugs      - 8/10 - I didnt really see any game breaking bugs in the first 2 years. I did see a lot of "rendering fat" bugs and errors but that was more or less it.
Playablility   - 5/10 - Overal the playability is less of other mods I have played. I probably wont play this mod very often again. Maybe a couple other times but much rather play Corrosion mod, Sorry Nido.
Graphics   - 7/10 - Well the graphics so far are almost perfected, well as much as other graphic packs - like mayday - is. The only thing that is missing is graphics for the main civilizations, however this is being rectified as we speak by a modder named TechnoJack
Overal      - 6/10 - In general the mod is good. But not as good as other mods I have played sorry Nido. BUT if u do LOVE MLP and are a Brony then this mod is DEFINATELY the mod for you.

Suika Fortress Mod By Totaku

The Suika Fortress Mod is created by a modder named Totaku based of the game series Touhou. This mod has been in development for about 2 years or so. A lot has happened within this time. The mod was originaly designed as a graphics mod + a few changes e.g. civilization name changes and that is it.

Now however the mod is much more than it used to be. Now there are multiple civilizations, and not just renamed from the original DF civs. There are also a lot of new creatures, gear and plants etc, similar to other mods too.

Something that makes this different however is that it is based off of a game, which so far no other mod I have done a preview for has done to date - even though I know there are a lot more out there. So it is unique in that sense well to these previews ^_^.

Totaku is incredibly kind and does really care about this mod, constantly looking at it and developing it. Totaku will also advise me in how to say certain things - as in pronounciation - and will also provide a detailed background on the game and storylines if needed.

The thread itself is very popular and has a VERY loyal fanbase, but the same goes for any incredibly popular game - although some less popular games have an Incredibly loyal fanbase e.g. Dwarf Fortress , Touhou, Shin Megami Tensei games etc. Not the most popular of games but REALLY LOYAL fans.

Thread Activity - 5/10 - For the fact that this thread has been around for about 2 years and has less than 300 posts means it isnt as active as other threads, however if u post u tend to get a reply quickly, which is good.
Modders Percieved Kindness - 9/10 - From what I have heard from Totaku they seem like a very kind person. They keep giving me lots of information about the mod and game series. Also Totaku replies to most of my questions relatively quickly.
Update Time Periods - 4/10 - Again in 2 years there have been something like 7 updates - to me this is a good thing as u can actually do a lot of forts within a single save without having to update too often.
Lore - 8/10 - Totaku has tried very hard to actually keep the lore of the original game series linked to the Dwarf Fortress world, it helps when Suika is EXACTLY like Urist ^_^, but some things cant be put into the DF universe untill after the next patch.
Originality - 7/10 - The only reason this is a highish score is due to the fact that I have not done a preview on any other mod involving a game, otherwise the score would be down at 5/1- instead. Sorry Totaku
Overal - 7/10 - The mod is pretty similar to every other mod out there e.g. it provides new civilizations etc. However I guess the mod is a LOT more popular if u really enjoy the touhou games.

Little Bit More Mod By Janglur

This mod is really more of an add-on than a mod. It introduces a decent amount of new alloys and metals to acquire and/or mine.

The main reason Janglur started this "add-on" was due to one of the previous DF patches having too little amount of metals on each embark, so Janglur thought that he would try and introduce more metals to find on each embark. Ontop of more metals he also introduced new alloys to craft after finding these.

Janglur himself hmmmm well he seems fairly nice but a little impatient, not that is a bad thing - especially on a modder, he does reply each time you post on his mod thread and does try to introduce new metals/alloys each time people come up with new ones for him to add in.

Personally I myself probably wont like this mod, but that is me, mainly due to the fact that most of these metals/alloys are in other mods - like the Genesis MOd. And at least most of those mods add a lot more than just metals and alloys.

Thread Activity - 5/10 - the mod has had 4 pages of replies and almost 2000 views within the last year. This to me is pretty low activity
Modders Percieved Kindness - The modder, janglur, is pretty nice and tends to reply pretty fast to any questions that are asked and any suggestions u may have.
Update Time Periods - 4/10 - Again there has only been 4 updates in the last year, even less since Toady fixed the metals bug and allowed ppl to alter how frequent metals appear on the world.
Lore - N/A - There isnt really a lore in this mod as it just adds in new metals and alloys
Originality - 8/10 - The mod is VERY original as there are not really any other mods out there that JUST add metals and alloys
Overal - 4/10 - I would probably rather play most other mods than this one. However if u like the vanilla DF then this mod would be great

MechaGenesis Mod By Mechanixm

So the MechaGenesis Mod is a type of add-on mod, it adds new types of things and expands on the workshops already in the Genesis mod created by Deon. So it adds a different kind of "feel" for Genesis players - but am sure Deon will implement most of it into future updates for Genesis mod.

The reason y this mod has been made, that I know of, is because MechaGenesis wanted to put 2 kinds of mods together - TomiTapio and Deons mod together - this makes for one giant mod. However if deon does implement these additions into future updates of the Genesis mod then there will be no use for this mod.

Mechanixm himself seems like a nice person however he really hasnt been on for a VERY long time. Like he hasnt done anything to the mod since early November 2011, now it is late February 2012. This in turn means this mod hasnt really been looked after for a quite a while and no1 has really talked much on the thread.

Overal I think this mod has a lot of potential as the Genesis mod is one of my favourite mods. However I think this mod will become quickly obselete when Deon decides to implement it into the original Genesis mod, which I think he has already done.

Modders Percieved Kindness - 5/10 - I am not totally sure how kind Mechanixm actually is but he seemed pretty decent from wat he has talked to me about and stuffs.
Update Time Periods - 2/10 - There has only really been 1 or 2 updates since it's creation in Late October so yeah it hasnt been updated very often
Lore - N/A - there isnt any Lore for this mod as it is an adition to the Genesis mod
Originality - 8/10 - I guess u can say this is very original as not many ppl have actually made another version of an already existing mod
Overal - 3/10 - This mod really isnt worth the effort tbh as you can now just play the newly updated genesis mod.
