Before I set my orders this round I've got a bunch of stuff I want clarified.

What are the minerals on asteroid #81, and what's my deficit?

What levels of jump efficiency/squad size (actually are those unlocked yet?), fire control range/speed rating, fuel efficiency, capacitors and reactor/engine would I be looking at? There's about a dozen techs that I could use, barely even hitting some of the construction/production stuff, so I want to see which options are easy to knock off.

Asteroid #81 is pretty rich; 20k+ Duranium, 15+ Corundium, and then small (<2k) deposits of Neutronium, Corbomite, Tritanium, Vendarite, and Gallicite. Japan ran a budget surplus of 85 in December, including 10.4 from the civilian mining colony.

Japan (and everyone else) has no jump techs, so choices are jump radius 50k (1k), Max squadron size 3 (2k), and drive efficiency 3 (2k). Japan can research Fire control range 32k (8k), fire control speed 3k (4k), fuel efficiency 3 (4k), Capacitor recharge 3 (4k), and gas-cooled fast reactor (6k).

Oh wow that asteroid is AWESOME (I was disappointed with the lack of corundium, problem solved). And woo I'm making profit!!!

OK with that sorted, orders (I've basically copy-pasted the last one again, major changes are in bold again):

I'm sorry for the mess up about X-Ray lasers. In my mind, they were just after Visible light, and I half remembered having them on the Poleaxe.

Now, I see we have no Power and Propulsion Scientists. So it'll be hard for us to fullfill our comitment for a JD. Would another nation agree to research our part of the project for a mix of technologies and money?

As far as I'm aware, NO ONE has power/propulsion scientists. It's gonna be a pain in the ass take a while, no matter who does it :p

EDIT: The US might be willing to deal. What sort of techs/money are you offering?

All nations have asteroid 81 surveyed, I just haven't been typing up asteroid minerals because there's so many of them. If someone wants an asteroid mining colony, just give me some specifics (like "look for an asteroid with good deposits of Duranium and Mercassium") and I'll do my best.

I've got orders from everyone, but Europe's were labelled "first draft", so I'll wait a bit before the next turn.

Edit: Working on an update now, though for future reference can I ask that people avoid orders like "continue doing x", since the whole point of the template is that I only have one place to look at for orders. Similarly, cutting/pasting orders from the previous year leaves me unsure if I'm supposed to do things again. Please write clear orders for the current situation.

I'd like to take a moment and ask for opinions on the updates. What would you like to see in the updates? What is there that doesn't really need mentioning (for example, I stopped mentioning civilian construction about midway through).

Any other changes in format or tone you'd like to see?

Overall I'm having a lot of fun with this, and can foresee great tensions in the future :)

Hmm, one suggestion I might make would be for the shipyards summary, state if any are being upgraded/retooled and an est. for completion perhaps? Bit of extra work I suppose, but gives us a nice clear picture of when things will be ready.

Is the Luda being refit currently?

((Well, I'd like to know what my construction factories are working on, especially since I have more mines (not auto mines) than I did before  ???. Could I see my construction queue?))

CNN BREAKING NEWS

Anchor: We bring you live to the White House today, as President Hernandez is about to give a special announcement to the people of Earth.

Hernandez: My fellow Americans, and my fellow human beings, I bring to you today an historic announcement. Today, April 9th, in the year of 2025, scientists working deep in the asteroid belt have discovered the path to a brighter future. A gravitational portal, known in the field as a "jump point", has finally been located in our solar system.
While we cannot yet explore the other side, our best theories indicate that an entire star system lies beyond, containing planets that we have never seen, stars that we've only seen through telescopes...perhaps even life, whether intelligent or not. Our fellow powers are currently developing special engines that will allow us to pass safely through the jump point, and once they are completed all will profit from the exploration to come.

Anchor: And this just in, an exclusive recording of the actual moment of discovery:

*slightly static-filled recording*
USS Pursuit Squadron Control: Eagle 1, ah cleared for launch, over?
Eagle 1 Commander: Control, this is Eagle 1, we are go, over.
PSC: Eagle 1, continue to coordinates *static* and begin survey, over.
E1: Roger Control, ETA 10 minutes, over.
...
E1: Eagle 1 is in position. Beginning gravitational survey now...so far looks pretty normal. Uh, over.
PSC: Eagle 1, continue sweep. Report back no later than 0900, over.
...
E1: Control, come in Control. Uh...I think we've got something, over.
PSC: Say again, Eagle 1, say again.
E1: Sensors are picking up something. It's not much, but it's there. About...ten points port, distance estimated at 10k. Uh, should we proceed, over?
PSC: Negative Eagle 1, negative. Return to dock asap.
Voice: Belay that order. Eagle 1, this is Captain Anderson of the Pursuit. Continue at half-speed towards the anomaly. We need a good look at that thing, over.
E1: Roger and wilco. Over.
...
E1: *slightly breathless* Heh...Control, you're not gonna believe this [censored].
PSC: Report Eagle 1, what do you have, over?
E1: Gravimetric readings are off the charts, especially at coordinates *static*. We launched a couple of probes at that point, and they just...vanished.
Anderson: Stand back Eagle 1. I'm ordering the Spruances to fire a few rounds at those coordinates. Over.
...
Anderson: I'll be a son of a bitch.
E1: We did it, sir! We found one! Holy [censored][censored], we found one!
PRC: Come on back, Eagle 1. I think they're gonna have a medal for you once we're back on Earth!

Anchor: In other news, stock in scientific labs and shipyards across the country is expected to skyrocket in the next few weeks...

((This is tremendously fun. I can't wait to see what's on the other side!  :D ))

I could mention builds and modifications in the shipyard summary, I think. The Luda is done refitting and is surveying, though it hasn't yet found the asteroid belt jump point.

((Well, I'd like to know what my construction factories are working on, especially since I have more mines (not auto mines) than I did before  ???. Could I see my construction queue?))

Opps, Typo. 481 -> 381. Fixed.

Queues are another thing I could do, or more likely what's currently in production (since as mentioned I prefer fresh orders each update to avoid miscommunications). Currently the US queue is:

50% naval shipyard (33% done)
50% 381 convert mines to automated
50% military academy (queued)
50% 50 construction factories (queued)

Hello everyone sorry for being absent from this forum for the last few days my car broke down and we had an audit at work so I have not had much free time.

I'd like to take a moment and ask for opinions on the updates. What would you like to see in the updates? What is there that doesn't really need mentioning (for example, I stopped mentioning civilian construction about midway through).

Any other changes in format or tone you'd like to see?

To begin with I am very happy with the detail and effort being put into the reports

As our fuel supplies are alarmingly low I would like to propose to the US that the US gives us Sodium Extraction Modules in exchange we will design and create the following ship and begin production using our large commercial shipyard and transfer one of the first two that we make to the US

Code: [Select]
OSR-232 class Orbital Gas Miner    60,750 tons     741 Crew     1034.4 BP      TCS 1215  TH 438  EM 0
360 km/s     Armour 1-137     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
Maint Capacity 11 MSP    Max Repair 60 MSP
Fuel Harvester: 10 modules producing 200000 litres per annum

Nuclear Thermal Engine E1 (7)    Power 62.5    Fuel Use 10%    Signature 62.5    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 600,000 Litres    Range 177.5 billion km   (5707 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

I would Also like the following Exploration Ship to be designed

Code: [Select]
(unnamed) class Exploration Ship    850 tons     83 Crew     174.8 BP      TCS 17  TH 25  EM 0
1470 km/s     Armour 1-7     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/1/0     Damage Control Rating 2     PPV 0
Annual Failure Rate: 2%    IFR: 0%    Maint Capacity 257 MSP    Max Repair 100 MSP    Est Time: 12.84 Years

Nuclear Thermal Engine E10 (1)    Power 25    Fuel Use 100%    Signature 25    Armour 0    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 50,000 Litres    Range 105.8 billion km   (833 days at full power)

Gravitational Survey Sensors (1)   1 Survey Points Per Hour

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

My suggestion for the next set of orders for the EU are

@ Thranx: I see no problem with this proposal. Such a deal will benefit both powers and lead to closer bonds. If Sheb agrees to this, I'll sign it.

I agree with the deal. However I think the best course for now is to step out of the freighting business. We have civies and wealth, let them do the transporting. We should send more automines to Asteroid 81, as well as Deimos and Io.

Also, I oppose the creation of a new Grav Gunboat. We should refit the Gallileo as the state of the art in survey. Later on, I'd like to see is fitted with a Jump Engine, so that we'd have the first ship able to survey entire new systems on its own.

P.S. Also, I think we should be building automine, not converting them from manned mine. We'll need manned mine on earth, and on Mercury once we've got enough workers there.
