Bastion: Fully Narrated RPG (Now available in your browser!)
« on: August 18, 2011, 03:35:25 am »

I did some glancing searches through this forum and couldn't find a forum thread about this incredible game, so I'm making one!

This. Game. Is. Amazing.

What is Bastion?
Bastion is an action RPG with a kinda-anime-ish artstyle but a definitely Western take on it. You take the role of a guy who wakes up in his bed to find that his room is floating above some sort of vortex and tiles just magically appear out of thin air as he walks around. It has very fluid and fast-paced combat with slick controls and an awesome, so good weapon upgrade system. Oh yeah, and the whole time your experience is getting narrated by a super sexy voice on the fly. The game has a fantastic sense of progression and a very well done story that outclasses many, many games of this decade.

How great is the story?
Oh jesus, it's so good. Seriously. And the super sexy narration really pulls you into it as he picks up on every small thing you do. The plot is fantastic (Written by Greg Kasavin, one of the old editors of Gamespot) and the ending is also very well done. There's no goddamn cliffhanger ending here, none of that Halo 2 bullshit, no surprise-twist-M.Night.Shyamalan nonsense either.

Oh and it's pretty lengthy.

How is the gameplay?
I thought it was fantastic. The combat was so fluid I thought I was playing God of War. There are a large variety of weapons that don't outclass each other (so you can happily use whatever you want at whatever point you want without any real problems). The upgrade system seriously deserves a mention as it's so well done. It definitely gives you a strong sense of progression while keeping every weapon very different from one another. It's fast-paced, frenetic, cute, and cool.

Music?
So good. Listen to it here: http://supergiantgames.bandcamp.com/

Why are you not giving any details?!
Cause I don't want to spoil anything! Seriously! I can't even say anything about what happens in the game after the first 5 minutes as I'll probably spoil something important. This game is too good for that. Just go in bareback and ride it to the end!

STEAM! WHY YOU SO SLOW

I bought Bastion about 15 minutes ago, and it's still at 1%, and downloading at a blazing 3.2kb/s.

Hopefully I can get an hour or two of play in before the world ends in 2012. >:C

One of my favourite game of 2011. Just awesome. Awesome graphics, awesome ideas, awesome musics.

Got it yesterday and played... probably too much. Fantastic game overall and the narrator really makes it for me.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Downloaded the game yesterday, configured my gamepad this morning before work. will play after work, only have to shut down an IBM Server to insert a SCSI controller to use a tape drive for Backups today. That said i will probably get to play the game tomorrow.

Hmm quick question for people who might know: is there any way to leave Who Knows Where early or do you have to go through all of the waves first?

You can press escape and click return to Bastion.

I think it gives you all your money too.

Interested in this, but as always, am wary. What exactly bored you after 2 hours burningpet?

Already got this on the Xbawx, but am considering also buying the PC version to replay it in 1080P.
Then, I'll probably also buy the soundtrack. It's THAT good of a game. Artwork is fantastic, music is great, and I can't get enough of that narrator's voice reacting to what's going on.

Nah, I'm just foolin' "

*Midway through the game, I was fiddling with a weird item setup but was getting my ass kicked because I enabled 4 gods at once. So I find an armoury and switch back to my standard layout*

Narrator: "And then the Kid switches back to his old mainstays"
