Well, it's a sad day for anyone who was having sex at the time... "I think I felt the earth move" wasn't a compliment, it was a goddamn earthquake.

I live in North Carolina and didn't feel it at all, but at the time it happened I was in a car. I haven't felt any aftershocks either.

Creepy. They just had one in Colorado today, close to the strongest quake ever felt there. 5.3.

I'm in Washington state, and didn't feel a thing... if that helps.

Nor did I. At least we know that the quake wasn't big enough to tear the continent asunder, now.

There's already been an aftershock, 2.8 about 50 minutes ago. DC is shutting down public monuments, ATF is shutting down HQ to check for structural damage. Two nuclear plants also shut down in the area. They lost power but backup generators kicked in without a hitch, so no Fukushima-style mess on the menu.

It's funny, just last night I was having a conversation about the potential vulnerabilities of East Coast nuclear reactors to unexpected earthquakes. Looks like I just won an argument.

Hopefully the question of how well Sharon Harris can stand up to a Class 4 hurricane will be a purely academic question.

I should hope so, the reactor expansion for Sharon Harris was halted once already, it would be bad if it happened again. We need more power. MORE!

I mean, um, er......

(Seriously though, we could use that extra 2200 MW.)

I wouldn't call it big compared to you know, a real earthquake like what they have in chile/alaska/japan, but i guess its quite large for the general vehicle earthquake resistance standards
