I dodged my way through the crowds and headed back to the pokemon center to rest up before I left. The crowds had gone down quite a bit after I woke up, so I decided to get out while the getting was good. Brendan met me outside and waved me over to him with a cheerful grin. You have a Pokenav? Awesome! Here, lemme give you my contact number in case we need each other.
I gave him my number gratefully and he flashed a grin at me, asking if I felt like battling with him for fun. I shook my head and said that I was in a hurry and had to get onto Dewford as soon as I could. Oh, is that the case? Well, I doubt you know it Alison, but Mr. Briney down by Petalburg used to be a great sailor! If he likes you, he'll probably give you a ride free of charge!
Perfect! I thanked him and went on my way through Petalburg Woods - I didn't even bother letting anyone out, I just ran the whole way and bypassed the thicker portions by sliding down a few slopes. It was messy, but it got me to the exit almost immediately. I took a bit of time to wipe away some of the mud from my clothes and looked around. I guess Mr. Briney lived at that cottage with the boat? Kind've a tiny thing, but it'd work...hopefully.I knocked on the door and I heard him call me on in - no mistaking that voice. I let myself in and closed the door behind me and I saw him chasing his Wingull all across the cottage, laughing it up the whole time and generally having a blast. What...did I just get myself into?
He grinned at me as he saw me and walked over to me, huffing and weezing all the way. Well, I'll be! It's the Trainer what helped out me n' Peeko! How are ya doin' there? Hope all yer mates are doin' alright?
We're all alright...I was wondering though, is it true that you used to be a good sailor?
He stuck out his chest and looked like I hurt his pride as he told me that he was the best sailor to ever hit the seas, and that he and Peeko would be happy to take me anywhere we'd like to go if that was why we were asking. Sharp old man...I smiled and told him that we wanted to go to Dewford to deliver something and he nodded to me as he went out the door, calling over his shoulder for Peeko. I followed him outside and he was already in his small boat, setting everything up for a trip. Hop on in, Miss! Peeko n' I'll get you there in no time flat! Just head down into the holds away from the spray and take yerself a nap and I'll wake ye when we get there!
Uh...Alison. My name's Alison, Mr. Briney. And thank you.
He grinned at me and waved me on down as I clambered onto the boat and into the hatch - it opened into a rather large cabin, way bigger than I would've thought possible. There were quite a few hammocks hanging on the walls and I settled into one. I wasn't sleepy yet...and I had just woken up a few hours ago anyway.
I gathered up my pokeballs as I felt the ship shift a bit and go out into the open water - making everything sway and swing, and making me feel sick to my stomach. I held them all close to me and tried to relax when the image of a man with his bones splintered and rupturing out of his body appeared in my mind and nearly made me lose it right there. I looked around and there was a bucket near my hammock - Mr. Briney knows what he's doing. I tugged it closer to me and looked down at my friends, all sealed into their pokeballs and likely asleep for the trip. None...none of you are going to do that again. Understand? N-No more killing...
I almost added please at the end of that and had to bite my tongue. I had to seem like I was in control if I wanted to keep them from doing that again...they thought I was weak and were protecting me. I had to let them know that I was stronger than that. My wrist beeping and vibrating like a crazed alarm jolted me from my thoughts and I held it up to my face to look at the Pokenav. Some number I didn't know was on the registry and I pressed the talk button clearly labeled on the side. H...urgh..Hello?
Alison? Is that you?
Dad...how did he get this number? Uh...listen, where are you now? Sounds like an engine...a boat? Ah, you must be going to Dewford then...listen, I got this number from the Devon president...he told me what happened. And what sounds like may be going to happen...just keep this number and let me know if you get in over your head, alright? Good luck.
I barely got in a word and he already hung up...I thought about calling him back but decided against it and just curled up on the hammock, bent on resting before we got to Dewford.
I woke up several hours later surrounded by warm bodies - my friends had let themselves out and curled up around me...and we were on the floor for some reason. I looked around and I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and saw Mr. Briney coming down and grinning at me. Guessin' ya fell in the floor while ya napped, then. Happens ta everyone on their first trip, don't worry bout it. We made it to Dewford, lass, so you can go ahead and do your job. I have a cabin here too, so ya can rest assured that I won't be strandin' ya.
I smiled up at him and one by one all my friends woke up at his words and we all stood up. I thanked him and he waved it off saying it was the least he could do for what I did for his Peeko and let us up on the deck. It was sunset and the smell of the sea was stronger than I ever smelt it before, and I could hear lots of people talking and yelling across the docks to the shore. We made it to Dewford with no problems.
