Counselor Magma Naidrukat Counselor,
Over the course of the last year as Imperitor, I have come to trust and rely on your sound advice. Your expertise as a natural leader has allowed our fortress to begin establishing itself as a regional power that even the mountainhomes themselves have recognized. And now, as tradition dictates, I must pass my post onto another dwarf who I feel can handle the post. It took me no time at all to realize that you would fit the post best. Tomorrow, when you awake and read this letter, you will begin a new chapter. A new chapter not only of your own life, but a new chapter in the history of Impaledswordsflags.
In the next year, I would suggest you undertake the following tasks:
Construct the Hospital - What I had hoped to undertake immediately ended up being postponed and delayed until finally I lacked the time to complete the construction.
Clear and furnish the new Domoritories - The new Dorm addon should be readied for the immigrants that will surely come during your term.
Clear, Engrave and Decorate the Grand Hall - The miners have their orders to clear the unneeded ramps, but you'll have to remove the stone strewn across the bottom floor, and begin to decorate the entire hall. You may want to see Belik about this, as he surely has plans for this.
Establish a mining industry - Now that I have gotten our entire fortress underground, the next step would be to begin producing armor and weaponry to better equip our meager militia forces. I have allowed this area to stagnate to hasten construction on the Great Hall, but now that this task has been completed, mining should be our next great concern.
There are likely other tasks you wish to be completed, and there are definitely other ones that you will likely discover during your tenure.
I wish you the greatest luck in your endevors as Imperitor of Impaledflags my friend.
Metalmouth Amostshorasts
Former Imperitor,
Impaledswordsflags

P.S.
I thought you might find these maps drawn up by myself for planning purposes useful. They illustrate the two main areas of the fortress, and may prove useful to you for planning purposes:

The fortress didn't die. That's all that really matters in succession games.

I'll get started on this very quickly. I'm at work right now, so expect my first post either late today or early tomorrow.

Journal of "The Counselor" Litastatol, doctor/Expedition Leader

1 Granite 324

I woke up this morning with a letter apparently glued to my face by stale alcohol. After painfully peeling it away, I discovered it was from Metalmouth.

You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that he had decided to pass the torch to me. I'm not exactly a natural-born leader. I shall have to think about what to do from here on out.

2 Granite 324

Did you know we have 54 fucking dwarfs here? I didn't know that, and I'm supposed to be in command of all of the grubby fuckers. Not only that, but apparently over half of them were completely without work.

First things first, I need to finish my inspection. But for now, I told all of them to start dumping these rocks into a pile.

3 Granite 324

HOW HAVE WE GOTTEN THIS FAR WITHOUT A DAMN MASON'S WORKSHOP?

No, seriously, how? We have stone doors built, but apparently, no fucking workshop where they had been made. So where the fuck did they come from? Did we fucking buy them? What the fuck?!

I order a Mason's Workshop built.

4 Granite 324

I have two minor projects ongoing to get this fortress in top shape. First of all, I ordered a small stockpile dug out by our Depot, so that we can get our trade goods there faster.

My second project needs a little explanation. First of all, did YOU know that our fishery was sitting outside of our palisade? I didn't.

I think you can see where this is going.

I think Belik was a bit upset that I ruined the symmetry of the topside of the fort. I told him he could suck on it.

5 Granite 324

Some fish dissector went streaking past me this morning. It turns out, we had a dwarf fail a mood. I have no idea what he needed that we didn't have.

I have designated a tomb for him. It's all I can do for him at this point.

10 Granite 324

Oh fucking great. MIGRANTS!

SHITTONS OF THEM!

Population of our sad little hole in the ground: 72.

28 Granite 324

GOD WHY ARE THERE SO MANY ROCKS?

I order all these rocks dumped. Seriously, the bottom floor of the "Great Hall" was covered four deep in rocks.

1 Slate 324

WHY DO WE ONLY HAVE 126 DRINKS?

FUCK FUCK FUCK

BREW MORE ALCOHOL!

5 Slate 324

I have begun construction on my hospital.

I also included a modest office and a small bedroom for myself, because being in charge has it's perks.

AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME, AHAHAHAHAHA!

15 Slate 324

Good god, these people take forever to do the simplest fucking things! I ordered beds made. In the time since I gave that order, do you know how many beds were made?

3.

It's been a week.

I need a fucking drink. I'm getting tired of all this plump helmet wine though. Shit's just boring.

Here's another example of these fuckers' aversion to work.

NEEDS A FUCKING ARCHITECT! I ask Belik what he's doing, and he tells me he's moving rocks around.

He's damn lucky I didn't have my hammer. The one I use to rebreak bones, y'know? If they heal wrong?

Other doctors said that the hammer was needlessly brutal. I rebutted by telling them that I'm a dwarf, not a pansy wood elf.

And that's how I lost my medical license.

5 Felsite 324

He died. I told his wife she could come talk to me if she needed to.

I don't think that made her much happier. I'm a bit off my groove.

20 Felsite 324
GOBLINS!

Wait.... OH KEBUL IT'S EVEN WORSE!

PEDOPHILES! KILL IT, HALLS OF PAPER!

....

Well.

That was brutal. I didn't really expect a MACEDWARF to use her TEETH!

21 Felsite 324

OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK!

THIS IS EVEN WORSE!

Elves!

((Holy fuck. We have, like, 21 drinks right now. This is going to be bad. Hopefully the Elves brought some booze!

Oh, yes, it's summer now. Next update will come tomorrow some time, and will cover all of summer.

And next time, I will remember to mark the actual dates of these screenshots, so I don't have to make things up. I think I got everything in the right general order.

HMMM. I apparently suck at screenshots. The ones that are ridiculously zoomed in on can be seen in glorious proper format by clicking on them.))

Belik's Journal, 4 Granite 324
Well, Metalmouth finally chose a successor. It appears that The Counselor is the Third Imperator of the Dwarven Empire.

Hopefully he will lead us well. We got into an argument earlier today after he tore down near half the palisade to make room for an expansion on it. I pointed out his poor judgement, stating that he should have waited until the new section of the palisade was complete and then tear down the old parts, thus preventing a compromise in our security. He failed to realize that until the new palisade is completed, we are completely defenseless.

He told me to "suck on it", whatever the hell that means. Doctor jargon, I suspect.

Belik's Journal, 24 Felsite 324
Another one of us died. He withdrew from society, running around and mumbling to himself and looking for supplies. He could not find them, and he slowly committed suicide. Poor fellow.

Also, I've been hearing rumors around the fort that we are low on booze, although The Imperator keeps assuring us that there is no danger of a booze shortage.

Oh, and he's a FUCKING MADMAN!

Well, the "counselor" is apparently the new Imperator. Great. Now I can start Project: caveinoverthemayorsofficewhenhejusthappenstobeworkingthere. Hah. Just kidding. Here in ImpaledFlags, we may all have our personal grudges[cough]diebelikdiediemetalmouthdiediecounselordie[cough] Sorry. Nasty cold i've got there. As I was saying, here in ImpaledFlags. we may all have our personal grudges, but we don't act [ahem]rashly[ahem].

Wow, did I seriously just write all those dieXdie's and [cough]s and [ahem]s out? Sorry, I sometimes get into... kind of like a martial trance, but with writing. Anyway, I've got to go now. There's mining to do. I'll continue updating later.

I'm gonna try to get all of the year redone tomorrow. For now, I'm just gonna chill, play my personal fort for a bit, relax, and try my best not to go completely crazy.

Seriously. The Great Hall was almost a legendary dining room. The artifact statue was going to be a major piece in the layout.

And then the Hill Titan came, and then the game crashed. Fucker.

I don't see why my computer wouldn't be able to handle it, considering it's less than 6 months old and, on my personal fort, successfully dealt with filling a 14 z-level lake from a nearby river with over 34 FPS.

I have no idea why it keeps crashing.

I'll try again, and if it crashes this time, I'm going to pass the torch to Magma. (At high velocity, with a scream of rage)
