A sad moment...

The Dwarf Lasher was indeed Ber's brother. He did not strike her, but he had no qualms about whipping five of her fellow escapees to death. After I put an end to his slavery, Ber just stood motionless and watched his corpse. We left her there.

My personal experience with a emotional family reunion was one of my children soldiers reuniting with his uncle who was a recruit. The uncle attacked us and his neice and I killed him, after he died the neice stood over the corpse saying "uncle is that you"
It made me laugh and cry many times.
We butchered the dwarven uncle and my children loved it

Yeah, when I have kids with me and bump into recruits I usually wait to see if they run in for a reunion and leave if they do.

Wow.

That's why I love Dwarf Fortress. No matter how routine it gets, or how well you think you know it, it still has the power to throw up something poignant and meaningful.

True, mainly the meaningful things involve Undead Elephants, with children in the ashes gazing at their fallen home :P

One of my more poignant moments was while digging through the histories in order to write an in DF universe story based on the random generation. This was probably a little more of a fluke, but an elven civilisation was nearly wiped out by a dwarven one. When i dug around i discovered that there was only one period of history where the dwarves really did any conquering of that elven neighbor, and that was under the leadership of a very particular Dwarven General. This Dwarf had had both of his parents killed and eaten by elves in battle when he was only five.

I can't help but feel his genocide spiral was borne out of some need for vengeance for the brutal death and cannibalism of his own family.

Sounds like Cacame, only as an actual dwarf.

It's the fucking best that dwarves' (and others') personalities affect their actions in worldgen.
